I am looking for a foster or forever family! Please CLICK HERE to sign up to foster! Select the "Apply for Adoption" if you would like to adopt Hi! I'm Maggie! I'm from Arkansas! Meet Maggie! Maggie is a spayed border collie mix. She is about 9 months old and 30 pounds. Maggie is a smart and sweet, very playful puppy who gets along well with everyone she meets. She is described as a fun-filled girl with lots of puppy energy! Maggie is living in the office and would love to find a foster or a forever home! Maggie has had the opportunity to go on adventures everyday with one of our incredible volunteers. Here is what they have to say about her: "Maggie was kind of a teenage terror at first, but once we realized she'd rather sit for treats than bite us she really began to shine. It's been so rewarding to watch the glimmer in her eye as you can tell she wants to pounce on you but decides to sit instead. Once we decided we were going to tackle it, she literally caught on in a few minutes that violence was not the way (that's a joke, she is not aggressive just enthusiastic). This girl is afraid of nothing and is a total goof. She didn't know how to use the stairs but only dove directly down them all at once that one time. She has found other ways to express her excitement and is even showing good self control when approaching new people. Maggie is a full of puppy energy and great walker/hiker. She will fetch with tumbles and jumps before bringing the toy back almost every time. Her vertical jump with no momentum is kind of crazy and I think she'd love some agility play. She's super smart and likes food puzzles and games (anything with a mission). Sometimes she puts the breaks on when it's time to go in the kennel but is mostly willing and calm. A treat always helps. She's a good girl that just needs to be a part of someone's routine. We haven't seen her with other cats or dogs, but my gut tells me she would be great with another dog she can learn from and might torment a cat that doesn't want to play with her all the time.'

Story
Hi! My name is Darla! I am from Arkansas. I am good with other dogs, and human kids too! From her foster: Darla is so sweet! She will be someone's best friend who follows them everywhere. She kennels up with a treat and doesn't complain at all. Darla is treat motivated. She has slept with me and my cat over night as well and doesn't crowd or cause any problems at all. Her potty training is going very well with just a couple of accidents. She has quickly become protective of me and would become for her person. She started out playing well with the neighbor dogs each day but by day 2 and 3 she didn't like the neighbor dogs running up to me to say hi. She snipped at a couple of dogs for that. Shes smart and wants to please. I believe she can have positive trained and assured she does not need to be so protective of her person.

Story
Hi! My name is Pretzel! I am from Arkansas. From her foster: Meet Pretzel! A cute name for an even cuter dog. Don't be fooled by her sometimes grumpy looking expression as she's truly the sweetest and happiest little pup whose whole body wiggles with excitement when she sees you. She loves to cuddle and be held and will rest her head on your shoulder, or be snuggled up in a blanket in your lap while you read a book, watch TV, etc. She also loves ear scratches and belly rubs. Like any puppy her age, she loves to chew and play with any and all toys, as well as run around the yard and wrestle with her foster brother. Though she is small and has short little bowed legs, she does her best to keep up with him but sometimes during play she gets stuck on her back. It's hard when you have short legs and a big belly! She is learning what things below to her and which things are for the humans. She's an opportunist so prevention/managing the environment is key. Every now and then she'll steal my shoe and it's hard to even be mad when it's as big as she is and she prances away so proudly with her head held high. She's working on house training and does well if kept on a strict and frequent schedule and under watchful human eyes. Any accidents inside have been human error and us not paying enough attention. She has been having some episodes of excitement (maybe nervous, maybe submissive?) piddles when first being let out of her crate in the morning or after you return home from being out. She is really excited to get out of her crate at those times. What has been working so far is carrying her entire crate outside and letting her out once outside. When we've done that she has not dribbled on her blanket or once she comes out of the crate. Alternatively, a puppy pad placed just outside her crate will help catch any dribbles but she may still leak a couple drops on her blanket in her crate. This is something she should grow out of with age and bladder development. She sleeps in a crate at night either on the floor of our room or on top of the bed if she is having a hard time settling on the floor. She has been sleeping through the night for the most part. If she does get up earlier than you'd like because she needs to go out, she will happily go back to bed for a couple more hours after if she can cuddle up with you. If she does need to go out during the night she will let you know by barking. She is still working on crate training overall particularly during the day if you need to step out. One of us works from home full time so at this point she has only been left for short periods of time. She gets a frozen lickimat or other long-lasting safe enrichment option to occupy her initially, but once she finishes that she then barks and cries for awhile. At this stage, it's probably best she not be in a home with shared walls as she can be loud. She also will sometimes bark at our dog or cat when she's trying to get them to engage with her and play. She currently lives with a small adult resident dog and a resident cat. She wants to play more than our dog does at times so sometimes needs to be redirected to toys or a chew when he just wants to nap or be left alone. She's very curious about the cat and thinks he's just another playmate and wants to play with him like she would another puppy so she is learning that is not the case. Lately she does bark out of excitement at him at times when she sees him and currently is prone to wanting to playfully chase. At her age I believe she can learn to ignore but it'd likely be best at this time that any cats in the home be dog-savvy. She does listen and redirect well when needed (especially if you step in before she gets too excited) and being food motivated is great for training. She does not live with kids here and has only briefly met a couple while out and about. She may need a little adjustment period but I don't foresee problems. She is not very mouthy overall, but does sometimes go for your calves. She is a little shy meeting new people initially (especially in public places that may be busier/louder) but food is the way to her heart and then once she's comfortable she will accept pets. She loves mental enrichment activities that involve food/sniffing, including eating her meals out of puzzle toys like the Kong Wobbler, an egg carton, or other puzzle feeders. She LOVES food and treats. She also rides well in the car in a crate or in your passenger's lap and has been very patient for baths and nail trims. She has also been doing really well with walking on a leash/harness. (Sometimes she likes to pick up the leash and walk herself around the house.) At times she prefers to mosey around and sniff and other times she is go go go. She is cautiously curious about new things - people, objects, sounds, etc - and likes to stop and observe for a bit before moving on. While the puppy struggles are real at times, she will make up for it by never failing to make you laugh or feel loved. If Pretzel sounds like the 4-legged family member you've been searching for, she would love to meet you and win you over!

Story
Welcome Willy to CCPAL Rescue. Willie is a 4.5 month old 30 pound Border Collie mixed pup. He is proably going to be a 55 to 60 pound adult. He is smart, good in a crate, good in a car and very affectionate. He currently is in foster care of a farm and he gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is not good with free range chickens. He is learning his potty manners and is already neutered and has all vaccines. He is healthy and ready for his forever home. He would be great with someone that loves the breed. He is a mix so doesn’t have all the qualities of the BC but he is smart, attentive and affectionate. He is decent on a leash and would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. He isn’t as high energy as the pure bred Border Collie but he is a average playful puppy. An active family wanting a nice young companion to join your family would be best. Another playful dog would be good or a large yard for him to play in. He is currently in Texas and can find a local adopter. We can also work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is 400 and transport is 200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Story
Tucker is a five-year-old blue heeler mix. I adopted him from the Cedar Rapids IA Humane Society. He was surrendered over twice before (first his litter was homeless and then his previous family gave him back after a natural disaster). Tucker is super loving, his humans are his best friends, he loves to cuddle up close and play with his toys. He needs lots of time to play but also loves to be lazy and nap on all the furniture. Tuck is potty trained but will pee a little when he is excited or nervous. He is very friendly to all adults but has shown reactivity towards children who are walking by (he has met one kid in my care, and it went well). I can no longer care for Tucker after dealing with his reactivity, I have decided it is no longer a safe choice for me to have him. He is very aggressive towards animals and has attacked a couple dogs on walks, he needs an owner who is experienced with reactive dogs and has the time to take care of him. He is very loved and makes a great friend.
