Story
What can we say, other than have a tissue close by for this beautiful girl's story. Let us start by saying this 8 year old girl named Lassie was loved, and with a heavy heart she was surrendered over to rescue out of love and not for convenience. Her story begins in a single home where her people were unable to have children and she became the pride of lady of the household. Understanding the bond Lassie had with her people, they were of a community that is not welcoming to animals in their home, nor the regular traditional lifestyle of most. Lassie made her life living under the stoop of the house in a state considerably warmer than Minnesota and tending to the daily chores with her people in rural setting all the while being the wife's sidekick and enjoyment to allow some motherly instincts to share with her fur child. When Lassie's lady owner fell ill, the couple was banished from their community simply because her loving husband wanted to seek medical care outside of the community for his wife. He went against tradition, and upon seeking this care, the wife was diagnosed with an end stage cancer. News that no family wants to endure. They then travelled north to Minnesota bringing Lassie with them where they stayed with friends/relatives until the medical condition continued its path and worsened. They were asked to leave as it was too much for the others to endure and watch. They were offered to return back to their relatives here in Minnesota but they were not allowed to bring Lassie back since they already had pets of their own. The expectation was for the husband to take Lassie out to the field where nobody would witness a last moment with the dog, to dispose of her, and to bury her. There is no need to explain how, because it didn't happen. The husband couldn't do this to his wife's fur child and the love that she had for this dog regardless of her condition of no longer communicating as the cancer is spreading. This older couple had made friends outside of their community when they lived in the warmer state and the husband was communicating via traditional mail of the situation and their tear felt decisions they had to make with the forks of life in the way. It was because of this beautiful friendship, the loving couple outside of the community began taking the burden away searching for rescues for Lassie. Some rescues were full, but then the call came in here at NWMNAR, and the story was relayed. There was no hesitation, room was made regardless, Lassie had a place to go. The worry put aside in the husband's mind to no longer have to do the unthinkable and the guilt he would have felt towards his wife, especially considering her condition and peace could be felt by all. The friendly couple drove up to Minnesota to retrieve Lassie and speak with their friend, and delivered Lassie to the rescue late October where she now resides and is looking for that special person who has the heart to open to her and embrace her as well. She arrived with a simple surrendered signature of a loving husband whom let go of a dog that meant so much to his wife and was a part of their family and had the courage to stand up for his wife against all beliefs of his community and to do what was right for their fur child and give her a chance to be someone else's pride and joy. He too, will have to find a new place to go when his wife passes, and we hope and pray this will help comfort him. We wish for Lassie as well to have a home where there is someone to keep her warm and tell her it's all going to be ok, when her world was just as much tipped upside down as her people, where life changes in an instant and we are never the same again. It's a moment to reflect back at the sacrifices some people have to make. While often times in rescue we assume the worst, when sometimes we just need to sit, listen to the story, wear their shoes for a moment, open our hearts and realize, sometimes we all need to come together and help in any way we can. We hope and pray for peace for this husband and his wife. And we are grateful to their friends whom so willing stopped their lives to find this fur child a place to go. Our hearts are overwhelmed and wish for peace for all. Fine Print: All dogs of NWMNAR are screened at the headquarters in Ada, Mn until they are vetted. They are then transferred to foster homes throughout MN and some into ND so they can get used to lifestyles with a family in a home. Adoption fee for an adult dog is $300 + Mn tax. Adoption fee for a dog over 3 years of age is $300 + Mn tax., pup/dog1 year to 3 years is $400 + Mn tax. Under 1 year of age $500 + Mn tax. Free adoption applications can be found on our website at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NMA/Dog. Because NWMNAR is not a public shelter, meet and greets do not take place until an application has been approved and a home visit has been completed in person or virtually. Dogs can be met in Ada, MN weekday and weekends, or in our alternate office location in Maple Grove, MN on weekends only. 🐾 Meet Brit 💖 📍 Age: 4 years ⚖️ Weight: 28 lbs 🐾 Breed: Border Collie 🐶 Dog Friendly: Yes, but doesn't want to live with one 🐱 Cat Friendly: Unknown 👶 Kid Friendly: Yes, but adult-only home preferred 🚽 Potty Trained: Yes, good on a schedule 🏠 Crate Trained: Does well being left loose in the house when left alone 🌳 Fenced Yard: Yes, physical fence required 🦴 Training: Leash trained, rides well in the car 🏡 Best Home Fit: only dog in the home, adults-only household, apartment-friendly, and great companion for seniors Brit is an easygoing, calm presence who’s ready to settle into a peaceful, loving home. After navigating life on her own, she’s learned to appreciate the simple things: a soft place to nap, some gentle attention, and a safe spot to lounge inside or out. She’ll greet you at the door with a wagging tail, but she’s not demanding—she comes to you when she wants affection and is content to snooze the day away. On walks, Brit is a dream. She stays right by your side at any pace and enjoys exploring the world calmly and confidently. She tolerates other dogs and does well with children, but her happiest life will be as the only pet in a quiet adult home. Brit recently had one eye removed after an unfortunate porcupine encounter, but she’s recovering beautifully and has shown zero aggression toward other animals while in care. 💵 Adoption Fee: $495

Story
Meet Lilly! Lily is a one-year-old, 32-pound sweetheart with a gentle soul and an irresistible mix of beauty and charm. Based on her appearance and demeanor, our best guess is that Lily is a Border Collie / Australian Shepherd mix—a combination known for intelligence, loyalty, and a strong bond with their people. Lily is incredibly friendly and enjoys greeting the world with enthusiasm, but she also loves quiet moments and cozy snuggles with her humans. Like many herding-type dogs, she’s observant, sensitive, and eager to please. She’s still learning the ropes of home life and appropriate social manners, but she thrives with kind guidance, consistency, and positive reinforcement. She approaches life with curiosity and heart, and she enjoys having a routine and clear expectations. Lily does well with other dogs and takes comfort in canine companionship. She has not yet been tested with cats or children; given her herding-mix traits, we believe she would do best with thoughtful introductions and a home that understands the importance of structure, calm energy, and time to settle in. Lily is a bright, loving young dog who will shine with a patient, supportive family ready to help her continue learning and building confidence. In return, she’ll offer deep loyalty, affection, and a wonderful partnership. Lily’s Ideal Home:A calm, loving home that values routine and positive training, with people who enjoy an engaged, intelligent companion. Another friendly dog could be a bonus, but not required. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption.     The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Request Form prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at www.RescueCrew.org. You can also access the necessary online forms here as well.  ##2610465##

YOU WILL FIND THE ANSWER TO ALL BASIC QUESTIONS BELOW. Please read carefully Before emailing. *If you have emailed using an “Apple ID” or other relay system you will Not recieve a response as they block Petfinder. **All emails are answered within 24 hours. PLEASE CHECK YOUR JUNK MAIL!! If you have not received a response in 24 hours, please email again! This dog is fostered near Marine on St Croix, MN. Meg is a mixed puppy born 7-4-25. We were told that Mom is a heeler and dad is heeler / Aussie. But it looks like a Border Collie may have snuck in the mix! She currently weighs 22-25 pounds. She will likely be around 40-45 pounds as an adult. Some of the siblings were sold by the breeder to a pet store. Dane, Evie, Opal and Meg were “too old” to be sold and were surrendered to rescue. Meg likes other dog friends. She has not met cats. She’s just a baby so someone could intro her to one. She lives with elementary age kids. Meg is learning about toys and having fun. She is doing well on house or crate training. This is something her new family will need to continue to work on. She would do great in a basic training class to learn good things with a new family too. A little time and she is going to be your very best friend. *Each pup is spayed or neutered and current on their vet cares. *We do not hold or reserve dogs. We do not ship or fly. Prospective families must come to the dogs location in MN to meet.* *Emails are answered in the order they are received. We are receiving a large number of emails, so answering promptly is our goal. If you are interested in adoption, your prompt responses are the best way to get through the adoption screening* *Adoption fees are payable in cash or money order only. No personal checks, credit cards / Square, etc. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DENY ADOPTIONS AT ANY POINT IN THE ADOPTION SCREENING PROCESS.* If you have read this far, you are ready to start the adoption process! This girl was found wondering around a business and was brought to us. She is friendly, happy but will be a good size dog when grown. She has not been in a house (that we know of), nor has been on a leash. She does okay in a crate and has no issues with other dogs. She is just a sweet girl who is now ready for a forever home. She is in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders.
