Story
What can we say, other than have a tissue close by for this beautiful girl's story. Let us start by saying this 8 year old girl named Lassie was loved, and with a heavy heart she was surrendered over to rescue out of love and not for convenience. Her story begins in a single home where her people were unable to have children and she became the pride of lady of the household. Understanding the bond Lassie had with her people, they were of a community that is not welcoming to animals in their home, nor the regular traditional lifestyle of most. Lassie made her life living under the stoop of the house in a state considerably warmer than Minnesota and tending to the daily chores with her people in rural setting all the while being the wife's sidekick and enjoyment to allow some motherly instincts to share with her fur child. When Lassie's lady owner fell ill, the couple was banished from their community simply because her loving husband wanted to seek medical care outside of the community for his wife. He went against tradition, and upon seeking this care, the wife was diagnosed with an end stage cancer. News that no family wants to endure. They then travelled north to Minnesota bringing Lassie with them where they stayed with friends/relatives until the medical condition continued its path and worsened. They were asked to leave as it was too much for the others to endure and watch. They were offered to return back to their relatives here in Minnesota but they were not allowed to bring Lassie back since they already had pets of their own. The expectation was for the husband to take Lassie out to the field where nobody would witness a last moment with the dog, to dispose of her, and to bury her. There is no need to explain how, because it didn't happen. The husband couldn't do this to his wife's fur child and the love that she had for this dog regardless of her condition of no longer communicating as the cancer is spreading. This older couple had made friends outside of their community when they lived in the warmer state and the husband was communicating via traditional mail of the situation and their tear felt decisions they had to make with the forks of life in the way. It was because of this beautiful friendship, the loving couple outside of the community began taking the burden away searching for rescues for Lassie. Some rescues were full, but then the call came in here at NWMNAR, and the story was relayed. There was no hesitation, room was made regardless, Lassie had a place to go. The worry put aside in the husband's mind to no longer have to do the unthinkable and the guilt he would have felt towards his wife, especially considering her condition and peace could be felt by all. The friendly couple drove up to Minnesota to retrieve Lassie and speak with their friend, and delivered Lassie to the rescue late October where she now resides and is looking for that special person who has the heart to open to her and embrace her as well. She arrived with a simple surrendered signature of a loving husband whom let go of a dog that meant so much to his wife and was a part of their family and had the courage to stand up for his wife against all beliefs of his community and to do what was right for their fur child and give her a chance to be someone else's pride and joy. He too, will have to find a new place to go when his wife passes, and we hope and pray this will help comfort him. We wish for Lassie as well to have a home where there is someone to keep her warm and tell her it's all going to be ok, when her world was just as much tipped upside down as her people, where life changes in an instant and we are never the same again. It's a moment to reflect back at the sacrifices some people have to make. While often times in rescue we assume the worst, when sometimes we just need to sit, listen to the story, wear their shoes for a moment, open our hearts and realize, sometimes we all need to come together and help in any way we can. We hope and pray for peace for this husband and his wife. And we are grateful to their friends whom so willing stopped their lives to find this fur child a place to go. Our hearts are overwhelmed and wish for peace for all. Fine Print: All dogs of NWMNAR are screened at the headquarters in Ada, Mn until they are vetted. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please complete  an Adoption Request Form. This is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about our adoption process, please visit our Adoption Process page on our website at www.rescuecrew.org. Meet Pinto Bean! This adorable 5-month-old Border Collie mix is the full package — smart, loving, and ready to find his forever family! Pinto Bean is already kennel and potty trained, showing just how quick and eager he is to learn. Like many young pups, he can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but once he realizes you’re a friend, his tail starts wagging and his sweet, affectionate side shines through. He’s the kind of pup who bonds deeply and loves to be near his people. When it comes to other dogs, Pinto Bean does best with slow introductions, as he can be a little nervous at first. But once he feels safe, his curiosity and playful spirit start to come out — you’ll see him trying to make new buddies in no time! True to his Border Collie roots, Pinto Bean is a very smart boy who will thrive with mental stimulation, training, and love. He enjoys playtime, learning new things, and of course, his favorite — belly rubs! If you’re looking for a bright, loyal companion who will blossom with patience and kindness, Pinto Bean will reward you with endless love and devotion. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption.  The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Request Form prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at www.RescueCrew.org. Story
Meet Poncho!! Intelligent, energetic and sweet, Poncho is a 2.5 yr old Border Collie mix. He has a young, happy heart and lights up like a kid on Christmas morning while playing with his ball or rope tug toy. He is loyal to his core, loving his family with everything he has. In fact, his theme song is “I’ll Stand By You” by the Pretenders. Poncho was a little too well loved in his prior home and is making progress toward achieving a healthy weight. His goal is around 50# from a current 56#. Luckily, he is excited to take his people for walks and show them around town. He pulls on leash for the first few minutes, then settles in nicely. It’s the perfect time of year to enjoy strolls before or after work (or both) with this handsome lad. Like many highly intelligent dogs, Poncho wants to use his big brain in addition to getting daily exercise. He enjoys puzzle toys and working on basic obedience skills. He can’t wait to take classes and be the star pupil! His foster family is helping him learn how to relax by using a mat for downtime where he enjoys chewing on bones or working on a Kong. Poncho is a great fit for families that appreciate and understand smart, engaged herding dogs. He can live with dog-savvy kids roughly 10+, and hopes they enjoy playing fetch! He dreams of a fenced yard and is also well suited to families who keep their dogs safe on leash. He is house and kennel trained. Poncho loves life as an only dog and does well meeting new canine friends for walks and excursions. He tries to gently herd the kitty in his foster home, but we feel he would be more comfortable in a cat-free home. This special dog deserves all the love he puts into the world with his optimistic, upbeat approach to life. If you enjoy the company only a devoted dog can provide, APPLY to adopt Poncho at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Poncho is being fostered in Forest Lake, MN. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Poncho's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Hi, I’m Apollo! I’m a 10 month old, 37# Border Collie mix, and I’m looking for my forever family. People say I’m adventurous, curious, smart, and friendly, and that sums me up pretty well. My favorite pastimes are collecting toys, carrying them around the house or settling down with a bully stick when I'm ready to relax. I’ve got plenty of energy, especially outside - I love to run, explore, and play, and I’m really fast! Inside, I settle down... but if you want a play break, just let me know! I’d be happiest with an active and patient family who enjoys keeping me busy and teaching me new things. A fenced yard would be heavenly, or a family dedicated to giving me safe outdoor time would work too. Kids under 10 that have had dogs before would be fun for me. While I’d enjoy having a canine sibling, I can also entertain myself. I’ve started showing some herding instincts with other dogs, so a family familiar with herding breeds is probably best. I haven’t met cats yet, but with proper introductions and training, I bet we would be friends. I’m proud to say I’m doing great with housetraining and have learned to whine at the door when it’s time to go out! I relax in my crate at night and when my foster mom has to focus for work. Sometimes I complain just a little, but it doesn’t last long. I enjoy being on a long line and am working on regular leash walking skills. My foster mom is helping me learn basic commands like sit, stay, and come (that’s my favorite one – I get to run AND get cookies at the end!). My master plan is to take my family to obedience classes so we get dedicated time together and I get to see new things, people, and other dogs. Plus, I will use my smarts to show off and get more cookies! I promise, if you give me a chance, I’ll be your best friend. You'll always be smiling when I'm around. APPLY to adopt Apollo at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Apollo is being fostered in East Bethel, MN. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. Story
Hi there! My name is Pip, but you can call me Pippi Dogstocking or the Pipster, both nicknames that fit my bright, bouncy personality. I’m a 3-year-old. 34# Border Collie. My first 3 years were not ideal, but believe you me, with my new family, I will live the BEST life moving forward. I’m best described as resilient, happy, playful, affectionate, energetic, and alert. My soft, cute exterior hides a busy brain – I like to keep myself occupied. My theme song is “Jump” by Van Halen, because that’s how I show my excitement about… well, everything. My favorite things? Attention tops the list, followed closely by food, toys, and games like tug and fetch. I adore my people and want to be right in the middle of whatever is happening in my home. Because of that enthusiasm, I’m still learning about personal space and tend to jump or climb into laps uninvited. Training classes will be right up my alley, though. I’m eager to please, smart, and will absolutely shine with structure and guidance. My energy level is not for the faint of heart; I’m not off the charts but need something to do with my brain and body every day. I’d love an active, herding-breed–experienced home with a fenced yard or safe place to run so I can show off my speed. People who want to take me running, try agility or dog sports or simply believe in staying busy are perfect. A feline-free home is best; cats are a bit too interesting. A playful canine sibling would be da bomb! Older kids would be ok. Because I’m still learning not to nip and jump, littles are not a good fit. I’m housebroken with supervision and crate-trained (though I may protest with FOMO). Leash leash walking is a work in progress – it’s brand new to me! I’m gaining confidence every day. I’m on the slim side right now, working to gain a few healthy pounds with good food and love. If you’re looking for a devoted, active, joyful companion who’s ready to learn and love with her whole heart, I might just be your girl. Pip is being fostered in Minneapolis, MN. APPLY TO ADOPT Pip at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Pip is being treated with a 30-day course of doxycycline for Lyme and Anaplasmosis. We do not expect any long-term effect from these conditions. Paul. Pip's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. She will be spayed and microchipped soon: her adoption fee includes the cost for these procedures. She is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
