Thankfully a good Samaritan found him and brought him safely to us. He is affectionate, happy, and very loving. He is also a Doggie Day Out ROCKSTAR and loves going out on walks with our volunteers. They report that he greets everyone he meets with patience, kindness and eagerness... almost like he is hoping this might be the person to give him the chance he needs. Kirby has a lot going against him... he is a big black dog in the shelter... something that already makes it harder for him to find a forever home. Then there is the heartworm status. Kirby has tested positive for heartworms, but please don`t let that stop you....A Quick Note About My Heartworm Status I’ve tested positive for heartworms, but don’t let that scare you! Heartworms are treatable, and with the right care (which our team is happy to talk to you about low cost treatment options in our area), I can go on to live a long, happy, and healthy life. Many wonderful dogs like me test positive for heartworms through no fault of our own and we just need a little extra TLC and some time to heal. The most important thing I need right now is a loving home where I can rest, recover, and feel safe. Please don’t let the word heartworm make you pass me by, I have so much love to give, and I promise I’ll make every bit of the journey worth it. If you’re looking for an amazing dog who’s ready for a fresh start, I’m your new best friend. As a VIP Pet, Kirby has a reduced adoption fee! Meet Wedge!Hello Wedge here! I’m a 3 year old Border Collie mix, I am the epitome of well-manners. I absolutely love belly rubs, car rides, hikes, walks and snuggling up on the couch with my person. I am chipped, neutered, up to date on all my shots, crate-trained, potty trained, and can even use a doggy door. I know all the basic commands plus a few others. And guess what? I’m a non-destructive pup. I take a little time to warm up and trust new people, but once I do I’ll be your best trusted sidekick forever! I would rather be the only dog, but if you’re a cat person, I’ll be okay with a cat too. If you would like to meet me, I would be thrilled to meet you!To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. Story
Meet Marjorie! Marjorie is a beautiful brindle pit bull mix, about 42 pounds, at 2 years old, and is so deserving of a forever home! She has been through a lot in her short life including being a wonderful mama to a 9-pup litter in the fall of 2023 around the time she was rescued by Saving Hope, plus overcoming heartworms and a bad respiratory virus that nearly took her life. Marjorie is stronger and healthier than ever now; her puppies found homes, now she is eagerly waiting for hers! She does wonderfully in her crate at night and during the day when her foster mom is at work. As she is not destructive, once she is settled into her forever home (generally 3 weeks to 3 months depending on the dog), she can be left out of her kennel. As with so many dogs, she is naturally nervous in new situations, and thus needs continued work on building confidence. She thrives with clear direction from her person and positive feedback when she does the right thing – she tries her very best to follow all the rules! She has the cutest tippy-tap dance when excited, waiting for a treat, or when she’s working on a skill. While there are no children in her current foster home, she loves everyone and would likely do well with children 10+ as she appreciates her space being respected and a calm household would help her adjust faster.Marjorie loves nothing more than to keep busy managing squirrels and lizards in the yard. This is her main energy outlet currently, so a backyard would be ideal. She needs at least a 6-foot tall fence when off leash because this girl is athletic… anyone want an agility dog? She might be it! She exhibits prey drive tendencies so cats, small dogs or other small animals are not a good fit. She takes breaks to sunbathe and would be content to do this nonstop, but she listens well when it’s time to come inside.Marjorie is threshold trained and is working on leash skills for walks using a prong collar and cues/guidance to walk alongside her human. She gets excited at the sight of other creatures but will sit on command until her person is ready to go. When it’s time to rest, she is very respectful of furniture but if she is invited up, she will be more than happy to cuddle.Marjorie is very quiet unless she is barking at a squirrel or playing with her foster brother, who she has become quite close to (a boxer/pit bull mix). She is somewhat dog selective and has some resource guarding tendencies surrounding speci

Meet Usher!Usher is a playful, energetic, and friendly 7 month-old Terrier mix. He loves playing with his canine foster siblings, trying to befriend the cat, swimming in the backyard pool, and visiting the neighborhood kids at the bus stop.Usher is house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. He loves training time and catches on quickly to new commands. While he doesn’t need a canine sibling, he will need an active home. He loves his morning walks and afternoon playtime! Once tuckered out, he excels at couch naps and blanket snuggles.Other interest include: sticks, golf cart rides, toys, treats, lake days, deer watching, and squirrels. To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt.
