Story
Brucie is a very handsome, young boy looking for a forever home of his own. We believe he is a Boxer mix, sporting a very attractive brindle coat. We estimate Brucie’s date of birth at February 10, 2021. At the time of this posting he is just under two years old. He is about 60 lbs. Brucie loves people and is very affectionate. Given his size and energy level, he would not be an ideal canine companion for younger children. We expect children over the age of 12 would be ok. And of course, an all-adult home would be perfect for Brucie! Brucie is very active and energetic, and sometimes can get carried away with his play. He loves running in the secure, fenced yard of his foster home. He keeps himself entertained; he would not do well in a dog park or day care. An ideal home for Brucie is one in which he can thrive as an only dog, with a family experienced with larger dogs who sometimes can get out of hand. Brucie’s only “watch-out” is that he can be a bit of a resource guarder with his food and bones, but this issue can readily be managed as he gets to know his new family and as they learn more about him!! As is the case with all young, larger dogs, Brucie would greatly benefit from obedience training which can also be a bonding experience with his new family. No doubt, Brucie has the potential to evolve into the perfect pup, but is looking for that family willing to commit to him and provide him the forever home he deserves. Brucie is fully vetted, up to date on all vaccinations, neutered & microchipped and on year-round heartworm prevention. BAARK is located in the Chicago area; we adopt our dogs only local to the Chicago area. If you are interested in adding Brucie to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Meet Bear: A Big-Hearted Brindle Beauty 🐾 Bear is a striking young Boxer mix with a gorgeous dark brindle coat and a personality as bold as his looks. Born around February 10, 2021, Bear is almost 5 years old and weighs about 60 lbs—full of energy and charm. 💙 Personality & Quirks: Bear is a people-loving pup who’s always eager for attention and affection. He’s not your typical chewer—but he does have a curious palate and has been known to sample rocks, sticks, and toys. His future family will need to keep a watchful eye to ensure he stays safe and avoids non-edible temptations. 🐕 Activity & Environment: Bear thrives in a secure, fenced yard where he can run and play to his heart’s content. He’s high-energy and sometimes gets a little carried away with his enthusiasm, so dog parks and daycare aren’t the best fit. He’s happiest as an only dog, where he can soak up all the love and attention. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Ideal Home: - Adults or families with children over 12 - Experience with large, energetic dogs - A commitment to ongoing training and structure - A safe environment free of tempting chewables Bear would flourish in a home that understands his playful spirit and is ready to guide him with patience and consistency. Obedience training will not only help him grow into his best self—it’ll be a wonderful bonding experience for his new family. 🩺 Health & Vetting: Bear is: - Fully vetted - Up to date on vaccinations - Neutered and microchipped - Heartworm negative and on year-round preventative 📍 Adoption Info Bear is being fostered through BAARK Dog Rescue, located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. We adopt locally within our area. If you’re ready to welcome Bear into your life and give him the forever home he deserves, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or call 847-852-0895.

Story
Meet Mateo—your future best friend with a story that truly shows what resilience looks like. Mateo is a proud Puerto Rican pup who made his journey to the mainland about two years ago through a rescue. Since then, he’s experienced more change than any dog should—multiple foster homes, an adoption, and most recently, being surrendered again. Through it all, Mateo has never lost his spark. Today, he’s safe with Border Tails Rescue, just waiting for the one thing he’s never truly had: a forever home that sticks. At around 4–5 years old, Mateo is full of life, personality, and charm. He’s a happy, goofy boy who loves attention and isn’t shy about asking for it—he’ll happily “chat” with you to let you know what’s on his mind. His energy level is higher than average for his age, so he’ll do best with an experienced owner who can provide structure, consistency, and plenty of outlets for exercise and enrichment. Mateo thrives in calmer environments, so a suburban or rural home is ideal. City life is a bit too overwhelming for him, as loud noises and constant activity can make him anxious. He has a strong prey drive, which means a home without cats is a must. The good news? He does very well with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions, though he may need some guidance on leash when he gets overstimulated. Mateo is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm, and Border Tails Rescue will support his medical needs during this time. Despite this, he continues to show just how resilient and joyful he is every single day. While he has previously lived with children, we’re still learning what kind of family setup suits him best now. What we do know is that Mateo is thriving in his current foster home in a quiet, country setting—and it’s given us a glimpse of the happy, balanced dog he can be in the right environment. Mateo isn’t just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone who understands him, believes in him, and is ready to give him the stability and love he’s been missing. In return, he’ll give you loyalty, laughter, and a bond like no other.

Story
Ross is in a foster home. If you would like to meet him, please start by visiting www.sccrescue.org and completing an application.Meet Ross--A low-key, low-maintenance, housebroken dog who had a rough start in life and is now blossoming into a reliable and independent companion. Thought to be around 7 years old, Ross does great in his crate, loves car rides and is confident meeting new people. He does tend to resource guard his food/toys a bit so it may be best if he is in a home without other dogs. Ross doesn`t bark often, but you`ll laugh when he does as he has a sweet, wheezy `smoker`s cough` bark. He also is a champion scooter when laying on his back and has amazing talent arranging pillows into a comfortable nest for naps. Belly rub? Yes and often! Ross knows `sit` and `leave it,` will come when he is called and is eager to learn more commands. If you are looking for a grateful and well-adjusted companion, please come meet Ross! And bring a ham hock! It`s one of his favorite treats! We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!

Story
Coal is a 4-year-old Pit Bull with the energy of burning charcoal, always fired up for play and adventure. He`s an avid frisbee enthusiast and carries his favorite red disc with him everywhere he goes. He loves going on long walks and playing fetch at the park, or getting a drink at the water fountain. When he`s not chasing frisbees or going for walks, Coal loves to relax in the sun. He`ll often be found sunbathing in the yard, soaking up the rays. While Coal loves to play and run, he also knows how to relax. He`s a gentle giant who loves to snuggle on the couch. He makes for a great heater when these fall days start to get chilly! He`s been great with other dogs, including the resident senior male pit mix and a young female basset hound. He`s especially fond of playing tug-of-war and chase with his foster sister. This handsome boy is eager to please and has mastered a variety of commands and tricks, including sit, down, heel, off, paw, place, settle, and speak, especially when there`s peanut butter involved. He`s also crate trained and enjoys his nightly wind-downs in his cozy crate.Coal is a people-pleaser, but his enthusiasm can sometimes get the best of him. We think he`d do best with older kids who can handle his playful energy. He`s looking for an active family who can provide him with plenty of exercise and love.Interested in adopting this dog? Neville is currently in a foster home. If you would like to meet him, please start by visiting www.sccrescue.org and completing an application. This Neville is definitely more Longbottom than Chamberlain. Although, he may also have a touch of R&B in him! Neville is a typical sassy Frenchie, he loves people, is great with kids and is a champ when going on walks. He is working on house/potty training, and a consistent schedule helps him. Neville loves his crate and does well when left alone. He is indifferent to other dogs and toys.Neville has been eating several small meals each day in an effort to pack on a few pounds. He also loves being outside, especially if there is some good shade to relax in. Snuggling? Yes, please, and often. Neville knows sit and has the potential to learn more commands (or songs). Come check out this sweet guy soon. He will definitely WOW you!We love our dogs.
