Lucy is a beautiful little Boxer mix girl, about 10 years old and 40 lbs, who loves going for walks and playing outdoors.  She’s had a fair amount of training and knows her basic commands, but as with any dog, she could use an owner who will keep up her training. Lucy is cautious upon meeting new people but once she trusts you, her loving side shines through.  She has a strong personality that requires an experienced dog owner. Lucy loves to go for rides in the car, walks at the park, swimming, playing with her toys, and spending time with her favorite volunteers. She has spent far too long waiting for her forever family to come along (almost 7 years in the shelter...). Violet Beauregarde Lonestar is 5 years old and 60 lbs and was saved from a Texas shelter with minutes to spare!  She has a bunch of energy so would benefit from an active owner. Violet is good with dogs but prefers if the other pooch knows some manners! She does great in the car and is an excellent walker, even likes to go running. Although this beautiful girl is sweet and cuddly, she can tend to get over excited at times - so, children should be older/considerate.  She needs an owner who will provide her with rules and has some dog experience. Violet is a sweet happy girl who would like a quiet home to live in with not a lot of visitors. Are you looking for a smart, eager to learn, affectionate big lap dog!? Look no further. Rocky is your guy! At 3 years old and 60 lbs, this guy thinks he is still a puppy. Rocky is incredibly smart and knows several unique commands such as spin around & roll over, but he knows the basics, too, like Sit, Down, Stay, Eat & Speak. Rocky likes other dogs and would probably benefit from living with one as he can be a little insecure at times. He loves his friends and enjoys meeting new ones at the park or the vet. He does however like to protect his home so he prefers a more controlled introduction to new people for that. He has also lived with older children (6 & 12 years old) and did well with them. Rocky sleeps in his crate quietly all night. And he's smart enough to let you know when he needs to use the outdoor restroom by whining. He's good in the yard & doesn't try to jump the fence - he does love to play ball, too. He's young so he would love to have a home where he'd get exercised. Kobe is a 2 year old Boxer mix who was found as a stray by some good samaritans who took him in and tried to locate his family.  Once Kobe's family was identified, it was determined that they were not committed to keeping him safe and sound, and agreed to let them find Kobe a new home that could take better care of him.  Kobe is now up for adoption and looking for a perfect family that is willing to spend sufficient time with him.  Kobe has some separation anxiety as a result of neglect by his previous owner. Right now, he can be a bit destructive if left alone/unattended only because he is just now learning it’s ok to be alone, someone will be back, you are NOT being abandoned.  We’ve found that when he has a human nearby and access to toys that are okay for him to chew, he's amazing at switching between keeping himself busy with his toys and then taking a nap near his human(s).  He loves chew toys and is very food motivated. Kobe also loves blankets, cuddles, and naps with his humans. We have not witnessed any signs of aggression in Kobe. While Kobe is eager for food, Kobe has not displayed any signs of food aggression or aggression or resource guarding with toys and treats. He's a smart boy that is very trainable. He knows “sit” and “down,” although he does best when hand signals are paired with the verbal commands. We've slowly progressed from not just getting Kobe to sit before eating, but to also getting him to wait to be released to eat. Dillon is a handsome senior bulldog mix with the cutest underbite ever!  He is housebroken, non-destructive when left alone, walks fantastically on leash and absolutely loves car rides!  He also loves to run around and play fetch!  He is good with dogs but needs to learn some manners while playing with them.  He is a little sensitive to being petted at first but once you form that bond with him, he just loves to cuddle (watch out he snores and hogs the bed!).  He would do best in a quiet home with DOG SAVVY adults with minimal visitors (or be willing to put him away when having visitors which he doesn’t mind).  Please give this boy a chance and let him live his senior years in a home.    April 19, 2024, 12:37 am

Kylo was originally rescued from a crowded Texas shelter with a broken jaw that he'd received from blunt force trauma and a skin condition that left him looking pitiful.  Life became infinitely better for Kylo when he was rescued. He came to New Jersey, where he was adopted a short time later, but sadly had to be returned to because the family found that they just could not give him the time, training, and attention he required. He is a chewer--he needs lots of chew toys to keep him on the right track. Kylo is good with some dogs and has been going on play dates with one of our volunteer's dogs! He is about 4 1/2 years old, 45 lbs., and would do well being homed with a dog that is well balanced and can match his play styles. He also needs a confident handler with experience in dog ownership. Because of his rough start, Kylo gets nervous very easily in social situations. It would be best if Kylo was put away if you had company (Which he doesn't mind! We will even purchase a white noise machine for you to use for him!) Kylo is a very energetic pup, who plays hard and loves harder! Even though he is about 45lbs, he still thinks he's a lap puppy and will spend all day in your lap if you let him. He is frequently carried around like a baby by his favorite volunteer friend.  Kylo needs an adopter that is very active but also around for him - he prefers someone who can spend a decent chunk of the days with him. He knows to go to the door when he needs to go potty.  Kylo is very food motivated and will do pretty much anything you ask of him if a treat is involved.
