🌸 BLOSSOM — YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND 🌸Blossom is a 8-year-old Terrier mix with the sweetest soul and the best “couch potato” skills around. She’s a pro at lounging, loves to sunbathe, and will never say no to some one-on-one toy time. She’s gentle, affectionate, and happiest when she’s close to her people. Blossom is house-trained, spayed, up to date on all her vet care, and completely ready to move in and make herself at home. Her one request? She’d love to be your one and only. Blossom doesn’t want to share her humans with other pets—she wants all the love (and snacks) for herself! If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key best friend who will fill your days with cuddles and sunshine, Blossom is your girl.📞 Call 260-868-2409 ext. 101 to schedule💻 Apply at www.dekalbhumanesociety.orgAn adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Story
Meet Hooch ❤️Hooch’s story hasn’t been an easy one. He came from an animal control seizure involving severe neglect, where he and several other dogs were found emaciated and being used for breeding. Despite everything he’s been through, Hooch has remained nothing but gentle, loving, and trusting. Many of the dogs from the case were thankfully able to find homes through DeKalb Humane Society, and the team at Shadarobah also worked incredibly hard trying to help Hooch find his perfect match. When luck wasn’t on his side, he was transferred to DeKalb Humane Society so more people could get the chance to see this amazing boy.And honestly? Whoever adopts him is going to be so lucky.Hooch is blind, but he doesn’t let that stop him from loving life or loving people. He is incredibly sweet, wonderful with other dogs, and absolutely adores human attention. We believe he would likely do well with cats too, though because of his blindness we can’t say for certain. What we can say is that Hooch has the gentlest soul and wouldn’t hurt a fly. He’s looking for a patient, loving home willing to help him navigate the world safely while showing him what it truly means to be cherished. After everything he’s endured, Hooch deserves a soft place to land.Could that be with you? 🐾An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Story
Meet Snickers — a resilient little soul with the sweetest heart imaginable. Snickers came from the heartbreaking 40-dog puppy mill case in DeKalb County and was later transferred to DeKalb Humane after intake. Although his past was far from easy, you would never know it by the love and gentleness he shows everyone he meets.Snickers is slowly discovering what it means to simply be a dog — soft beds, kind hands, toys, treats, and the comfort of feeling safe. So much of the world is still new to him, but each day he grows more confident and curious. Watching him learn to trust and enjoy the little things is truly special. He does have a slight head bob caused by neurological issues, likely related to his difficult beginnings, but overall he is doing very well. It doesn’t define him or slow him down — it simply makes this already unique boy even more special. Through it all, Snickers remains incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager for love.Snickers is the kind of dog who deserves a patient family willing to help him continue his journey toward a happy, normal life. With time, understanding, and compassion, he will absolutely flourish. After everything he has been through, Snickers is finally getting the chance to experience the life every dog deserves — and he is more than ready to find a forever home filled with love.An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Story
‼️Arlo is not at Dekalb Humane Society‼️His current owners are holding onto him so he doesn’t have to come back. They are absolutely heartbroken to make this decision but they are doing what’s best for the dog in the situation. Please apply at DeKalb Humane Society if you are interested. This is the bio his owners took time to write personally: “Are you looking for a new best friend? Meet Arlo, he LOVES people, and he’s looking for his forever best friend.Arlo is a 1.5-year-old beagle mix with a big personality and a lot of love to give. His favorite pastimes include:Surveying his domain (the backyard)Running at full speed (he’s quick!)SunbathingSquirrel watching from his favorite windowGoing on literally any adventure (he’s awesome in the car)Chewing on his favorite BeneboneCuddling with his favorite humanGiving A LOT of kissesSitting on his favorite human’s lap to get a better view out the windowHowling with his humans. He has quite the singing voice! For the last 6-months, Arlo has been living with what we’d hoped would be his forever family. He has been well-loved by them. Unfortunately, we’ve found that Arlo would likely do best as an only dog, at least until he has worked through his resource guarding. Arlo does not resource guard with his humans, but he does with his current dog brother. The professional trainer he’s worked with believes this can be remedied, but his current human can no longer manage the situation due to circumstances outside her control. He also currently has a cat brother, who he is not a danger to, but who he does often like to chase. In the last 6-months, Arlo has made a lot of improvement with his “sit” command (he’s a wiggle butt and gets VERY excited about food). He is fully crate-trained, but if he knows you’re leaving the house, he’ll be quite vocal about it until you actually leave. He is accustomed to sleeping in his crate and stays perfectly quiet until you’re ready to let him out the next morning. If you want him to sleep in your bed, he’ll be thrilled about it. He’s fully potty trained and hasn’t had a single accident in the 6-months he’s been in his current home. His recall has also come a long way, and he typically comes inside when called, even when he’s not thrilled about it.Arlo would do best with humans who have a decent-sized (or large) backyard that is fenced in, so he has plenty of room to safely run and sniff. He’s also a high jumper, so a privacy fence would be ideal. He would absolutely love it if his human were home a lot during the day (a stay-at-home parent or work-from-home situation would be awesome). His current mom works from home, and he loves to hang out with her while she works.Arlo will bring along his crate, crate cover, crate pad, 2 favorite blankets, his favorite chewies, and his food/water bowls with a mess-control stand to his new forever home. And, his new family will get one free training session (virtual or in-person) with Jody at Green Dog Goods in Fort Wayne to help them understand how to help him through his resource guarding.Arlo isn’t just an adorable face. He’s a big love bug packed into a 21lb package.”An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Story
Hi, I’m Kuma. 🖤You may remember me as Josie, but I have a new name now and I’m starting fresh.I’m a 7-year-old Rottweiler who was originally found as a stray in Saint Joe. Life hasn’t always been easy for me, and I carry some of the signs of being used as a breeding dog in the past. But through it all, I’ve never stopped loving people.I was recently returned to the shelter due to changes in my owner’s health, so through no fault of my own, I’m looking for a home again.I’m incredibly affectionate and loyal, and once I bond with you, I’ll be your shadow. I will be honest though—I’m still learning the rules of living in a home. Sometimes I get curious about counters or try to slip out the door, simply because no one ever taught me what was right and wrong before. But here’s the best part: I really want to learn. With a little patience, guidance, and love, I know I can be the amazing companion I was meant to be.A few things about me:• I may be selective with other dogs• I haven’t met cats yet• I have a huge heart and love my people deeply• I’m ready for a fresh startMy past hasn’t been perfect, but my future could be—with the right family. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will love you with everything she has, please come meet Kuma at DeKalb Humane Society.I’m ready to start my next chapter… maybe with you. 🐾An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt.
