Location: Ivanhoe, MN Hello everyone, meet CLYDE! This handsome guy is the perfect gentleman! He is potty trained and kennel trained. He has only spent time in a large 10 x 10 kennel, so I don’t know he would be in a smaller kennel. He loves his toys and can usually be found chewing his benebone. He seems to like all the dogs he meets, however, he doesn’t like to share his toys. Although he loves his doggie friends, he really likes to spend time with his people. Running and retrieving the ball in a fenced yard is ideal. He does get the zoomies! He walks great on a leash and can hardly contain himself when he knows it’s time to go! He does get very excited if he sees others on his walk, so we are working on manners. He has seen cats and is a bit apprehensive at first, but then is curious about what they do. He gets along with the resident cat. In his previous home he had trouble with younger kids, so respectful kids 12 and up is best for him. He has had some training. He knows sit, down, off, stay (although that one is tough to do at times!). He will gladly trade kisses for butt scratches any chance he gets. Clyde is an all around great guy! If you want an exercise buddy and couch cuddler he is your man. Location: Apple Valley, MN Meet Onyx! 🖤 Onyx is a sweet, smart, and loyal pup who’s eager to please and full of love! He’s fully house trained and kennel trained, and he knows several commands — sit, lay, shake, and sometimes stay. He’s working hard on his manners, especially not jumping up when he’s excited, and he’s making great progress. Onyx loves being close to his people and will happily hop into your lap for cuddles. He’s especially bonded with the girls in his foster home and is learning to feel more comfortable around men — he’s already built a positive relationship with the adult male in the house, and they now play and even snuggle together! He enjoys walks and is doing well with leash training, especially since he’s so food-motivated. Sometimes he still gets a little excited when he spots another dog or a squirrel, but he’s improving every day. Onyx is good with kids and hasn’t been tested with other animals yet. He does resource guard his food and bones, but he manages this well by eating in his kennel — he knows the routine and goes right in when it’s mealtime. He loves tug-of-war, the occasional game of fetch, and being part of family life. Location: New Brighton, MN Buddy/Shawn - (he answers to Buddy. He never answered to Shawn.) is appropriately playful and a big lover of snuggles. He still needs a bath but we are brushing him and using dry shampoo until he gets the green light from the vet. Buddy is fully house trained and does not keep you up at night. He waits until you wake up and turn on the light to come and say good morning. He is good with our small 9 yr old pup and hasn't tried to escape since he got got here. Buddy will get into the car when prompted with food and is in a very big hurry to get out when you do. Buddy's favorite thing to do is slide down the hill in the cool grass on his tummy and roll over on his back. He howls when he is anxious and for fire trucks, but it is a low bowl that isn't loud. Buddy can be kiddish with strangers but warms up easily and is quite the big baby. He has never nipped or been aggressive to any of us and doesn't bark at folks walking by. I would make sure that all gates and fence lines are secure and he cannot crawl under. Do you sometimes shop late at night, not quite sure what you really want, but loving the surprise of a bargain? Is it cool when what you get isn’t *quite* what you thought it would be ... but you love it even more? Do you love Black Labs with a hint of something special? Then look no further…. Temu is your gal! Temu is a quirky girl who lives up to her namesake every day. Her coat is a beautiful glossy black, and her fur is endlessly soft and petable. Like any good lab, Temu loves the water. She is most likely Lab mixed with Australian Shepherd and has qualities of both breeds. Temu is very loyal and stays close to home. She is being fostered in a rural, unfenced area which Temu thinks is great for runs in the woods and daily swims. While her family works outside, Temu stays close by and entertains herself. Recently, she has been learning to pick her own apples. Temu is about 2 years old, 38# and comes from a sheltered early life. Learning how to properly ‘dog’ is new to her. She recently completed obedience classes and is very smart- she is good with cues and verbal commands. She has a lovely recall and will happily ‘kennel up!’ One of Temu’s superpowers is her ability to get along with other dogs. She has excellent dog manners. She’s also good with cats. She is being fostered by a busy family and is a good fit for teenage kids. If you think you’d be a good Emotional Support Human for Temu, she is interviewing for the position. Key skills she is looking for are confidence, an outgoing personality and being a good leader for her - someone she can trust. She's ready for a person or people to call her very own. Temu is being fostered in St. Joseph, MN. APPLY TO ADOPT Temu at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Temu's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Hi! I'm Buckles, a playful pup who loves exploring and learning new tricks. I'm super friendly and nothing makes me happier than playing games with kids. I absolutely love kids, but my foster mom said they should be older kids since I get excited and might tend to knock them over when I'm excited.  I'm always ready for a fun adventure or a cozy cuddle. I'm smart too, so teaching me new things will be a breeze! If you're looking for a loyal friend who will bring joy and laughter into your home, I'm the perfect match. Let's make wonderful memories together! Buckles is working on kennel training She is pretty much house trained She is good with other dogs She doesn’t mind cats  She is scared of my chickens and ducks She knows sit.  She walks great on a leash and recalls well off leash to her name.  We are working on lay down, off, stay, place and touch. She won’t mind. Emma lived about half of her short life (yes, we are talking about over 6 months) in a shelter after being found as a stray. Due to this, she has lots to learn in terms of manners and training, but she is smart and eager! She just needs a strong leader and patience to help her be her best self. After spending so much of her life and time in a kennel at a shelter, being crated isn't her favorite. We (her foster family) have been giving really high value treats and toys when she goes in and she'll happily do so but quickly realizes she's been duped. When Emma comes to this realization, she barks lots and paws and chews on the crate door until she wears herself out. Due to this, a home with shared walls won't be a good idea for her. In an ideal world, she won't be left alone for long periods of time until she has learned that her crate isn't a bad place! Since being out of the shelter, she has been learning some hand signals in her foster home and needs continued consistency. Emma would love another dog in her forever home to play with! A dog her size or larger and that can match her very playful style would be best, otherwise she’ll just be annoying to them. Just ask some of the dogs in her foster home. Hehe! Because she is still working on her manners, a home with small children probably won’t be best. Emma LOVES toys that she gets to push around and that drop treats for her. They keep her occupied and happy! After a good walk or play session, she loves to sleep at your feet or on a dog bed near her people. She loves to be near people and will be completely invested in anything you are doing, even if you think it’s boring! Dishes? Awesome! Making dinner? Sweet! What are you making? My foster parents absolutely adore me and are so thrilled for me to find my forever home. I haven’t had the easiest start in my short life and I am so deserving of love, consistency and fun!
