Story
"Barclay is a great combination of intrepid explorer, playful companion and sweet cuddler," according to one of Barclay's friends who "borrowed" him for a few hours of home visit. He loves his lap time, including napping on your lap, as seen in one of the pix. Barclay is a good looking black pup with a sweet and calm disposition. He LOVES laps and will stay as long as you make a lap available to him. Barclay was surrendered by a family that had multiple other dogs that they were struggling to care for. Barclay, a mom and two pups were surrendered to be rehomed. They gave another pup to a UPS driver making a delivery. The vet aged Barclay at 14 weeks on January 12. We are guessing at breed here. He is surely part Lab and German Shepherd, but what else is a mystery. Dogs from the area who have DNA testing often have 20 or more breeds and they nearly always have some shepherd, husky, Miniature American Shepherd, cattle dog, Aussie, and even the largest pooches have a bit of Chihuahua. We estimate that Barclay will be in the upper end of mid-sized dog when full grown. But, his people should be prepared to love him if he is larger or smaller than predicted. Barclay came from a family with children, other dogs and cats. He loves his outdoor play time and is more than happy to come back inside to a comfy bed. We are working on house breaking but it is a work in progress. He is crated with the resident dog during the night and for 4-5 hours at a time during the work day. He keeps their crate clean and dry. He has done a tiny bit of walking on a leash. He is possessive of his food with other pups but does not challenge the adult dog in his foster home, even for high value items. He would be best paired with a larger dog to avoid competition. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated, and de-wormed. He will need one additional puppy vaccination at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered at 6 months. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested. Story
Eddie is a 1-year-old Black Lab who is sweet, strong, and incredibly loyal! Weighing in at around 55 pounds, he’ll stick by your side like it’s his full-time job. This young pup is house-trained and crate-trained. He does well in his crate for extended periods, settling in after a few minutes. Eddie loves standing on his hind legs to watch the world through the window or gently grabbing your hand with his paw just to keep you close. He loves chew toys, tug-of-war, and most of all, your attention. He usually has at least two walks a day and some active play like tug-of-war or zoomies around the yard. His leash manners are still a work in progress, so his future family should give some extra training to help guide him.He would prefer a home where someone is around often. Loud noises and unfamiliar people can spook him, but with patience and routine, he’s learning to feel more confident. Eddie is not able to live in a home with other dogs because he becomes very overstimulated when he sees them. He hasn’t lived with cats or children.Eddie is looking for a home to grow up in and give love in return! Are you ready for Eddie? If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. Story
Chaos is a 1-year-old Lab/Great Dane/Hound mix with a whole lot of personality packed into his 55-lb frame. True to his name, he brings puppy energy and enthusiasm to everything he does, but at his core, he’s an absolute cuddle bug who wants kisses, pets, and snuggles from everyone he meets. He’s incredibly smart, very food-motivated, and training has been a fun and rewarding experience.Chaos is fully house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go out by standing at the door. He’s also crate-trained, sleeps through the night, and does well when left alone for a few hours. Chaos has that classic puppy exuberance and is still learning boundaries, an obedience class would be a great way to help him continue to grow into the amazing dog he’s already becoming. He loves to play with other dogs and has done well living with cats previously. He also loves kids, but can be jumpy! A home with older, dog-savvy kids is recommended while he learns boundaries.Chaos loves chew bones, fetch, and curling up on the couch with his people. When he wants to play, he’ll proudly plop a toy right in your lap and wait for your attention. He does guard bark when people walk near the house or when he’s overstimulated, so a home without shared walls is required (no apartments/townhomes).If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate, energetic young dog with endless love to give, and don’t mind a little joyful chaos, Chaos might be your perfect match. If you are interested in Chaos, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
Meet Rose! Rose is a 2-year-old black Lab/Pit Bull mix with a short, shiny black coat and a heart as big as her adorable 50-pound self. She’s the perfect medium size and an absolute dream of a dog, sweet, silly, smart, and wonderfully easygoing. Her favorite things in life are belly rubs, pets, and humans. If you start petting her, she’ll happily flop over for a belly rub every single time. She loves walks, long naps, and will absolutely sit on your lap if you let her. She’s more of a companion than a toy-lover and doesn’t care much for fetch, being close to her people is what matters most to her. She’s quiet (you may never hear her bark!), has no separation anxiety, and does well when left alone. Her energy level is medium-low, making her a wonderful match for someone looking for a relaxed, affectionate companion rather than a high-energy athlete.Rose does have two lifelong medical conditions that are currently very well managed with medication. They don’t slow her down or affect her quality of life, but they will need ongoing monitoring. It’s important that she’s fed twice daily, 12 hours apart. She was also previously hit by a car and suffered a shattered pelvis, but she healed beautifully. She runs a little funny, has no pain, and enjoys walks just fine. She can be a bit wary of large trucks (UPS trucks especially), but otherwise navigates the world confidently. If you’re looking for a loving, loyal, low-maintenance best friend who just wants to nap near you and soak up affection, Rose might be your perfect match. If you are interested in Rose, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
Skye is a one-year-old black Doodle who is bursting with energy and enthusiasm! At about 50 pounds, she is whip-smart, highly active, and always has the cutest full-body wiggles when she’s happy. Skye does shed and will need a family comfortable with regular grooming and vacuuming. This pup thrives on intense daily exercise and engagement. She will need multiple active play sessions and structured walks every day, not just a quick stroll around the block. Skye loves the mental challenge of learning new tricks, is eager to please, and picks up commands quickly, but she will require continued, consistent training with clear boundaries and follow-through.Whether it’s chasing a ball, tossing a rope toy in the air, or running alongside you, Skye is always ready for action! Because of her very high energy level, she will require a securely fenced yard in her future home to help meet her physical and mental needs.Skye is house-trained and great at signaling when she needs to go outside. She does well with her crate, including naps and bedtime. Because of her history, Skye sometimes struggles to relax and may feel fearful of new situations or people, so patience, structure, and calm leadership are key when she's adjusting to a new home. Once she's comfortable, she loves being near her people and soaking up all the belly rubs she can get. When making new friends, her foster family recommends slow, controlled introductions. She does not have experience with cats, and her reactions to meeting new dogs are mixed—sometimes she's interested, and other times she's afraid—so thoughtful management and continued socialization will be important. With her humans, she will require a home without young children (no kids under 13) because of her mouthy behavior when excited and her overall intensity.Skye is looking for an active, dog-experienced home with people who enjoy training, structure, and having a smart, loyal companion by their side. With the right outlets for her energy, ongoing training, and patience, she’ll grow into the wonderful, devoted dog she’s meant to be!If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Honey has a very Lab look and personality in a small package. Honey and her siblings were born in rural northern MN. Honey spent all of her first year in a tiny pen or on a chain. Honey is sweet and friendly after a little time to warm up and see new things. She is doing great in her foster home meeting new dog and human friends. One of her favorite things is playing with her best Am Eskimo friend. She ignores the resident cats. Honey is close to house and crate trained. A new family will need to help her adjust to a new schedule. She would do great in a basic training class to help bond with a new family too.
