Story
A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by my friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $100.00 will be applied during the contract process. Hi! I'm Buddy and I am an owner surrender. I am deaf, but that doesn't stop me from being an amazing boy! From the Foster: Photos and Videos of Buddy: https://photos.app.goo.gl/uvmNj7g9YXB925CU9 Buddy's dream day would start and end with head scritches and belly rubs, followed by a walk to sniff around a quiet neighborhood, fueled by lots of treats. He'd then take a long car ride on the highway, return home to more head scritches and belly rubs, and enjoy chewing on a bone in his bed before a nap. He's used to having a human companion around for most of the day. He does all right for up to 4-5 hours alone, though if there is food accessible to him, he will find it and eat it. He's a loyal guy who will love his people well and do his best to protect you from squirrels, postal carriers, dogs on the TV, and package delivery trucks. He's friendly towards people, and very food motivated. He's a senior dog who knows what he wants and will communicate it. He's had to navigate some health challenges and can be a bit stubborn or crabby about being unable to do what he wants. Buddy would do best as the only pet in a quiet home, with someone who wants a loyal companion for daily walks, and time together. We have yet to make formal introductions to any other dogs or cats, when we encounter them in the neighborhood, he has a big bark and is learning how to be less reactive. Buddy would do best in a house with no shared walls.

A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by my friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $200.00 will be applied during the contract process. Hi I'm Goldie and I'm from a reservation. From the Foster: Hi I'm Goldie! Let's get the obvious out of the way first...if you adopt me, you not only get a super snuggly pup but also my amazing chariot. In lots of ways, I'm your typical pup...or maybe even an exceptional one! I love to snuggle and get pets & belly rubs. Sometimes my foster mom will boost me up on the sofa for even better snuggling & then I'm in heaven! I keep her company and take my afternoon nap close by in her office. I love to hang out on our deck in good weather and I love my 'up time' in my chariot when I run around the backyard, play with the other pups, chase balls or play tug of war. If I can get out of the house & yard, I am a very happy girl! I love going for walks and love, love, love car rides! If you are a runner or a biker, I'm a bit of a speed demon in my chariot and can keep up with you if you want some company on your walk or ride! And I love my toys...I have a set of four, including my favorite Hamburger that go out on the deck with me and then keep my company when I go to bed. Once a week, my foster mom gets me a delicious bone! If I have that or the chew toys, I don't chew on things I shouldn't! So some other things you need to know about me & my chariot: I stay quietly in my room overnight and in the morning my foster mom helps hold me up so I can pee on a puppy pad. I can't poop while she's holding me, so I have one spot in the house I tend to head to do that business if I can't get outside. Foster mom says it's really easy to clean up...very contained & solid. In the house, I tend to not use my chariot & just scoot. While diapers work if I'm in the chariot, they don't stay on well when I scoot. If I want you to come pet me, I may give a bark or two...its easier to get you to come than to have to scoot too far. I will also help let you know if someone is at the door. While I love my foster dad, I am initially more comfortable with women. Maybe because one of them shot me, men need to go slowly to make me know I can trust them. I'm learning to be a bit less nervous about some loud things like motorcycles, lawn mowers, & fireworks, although I feel pretty safe in the house now...they worry me more outside. My foster mom wanted to add this: Goldie has some exercises she can do that will continue to help strengthen her legs, but it isn't clear how much more improvement she will make But Goldie is the sweetest thing in the house and if you sit on the floor, she'll climb in your lap for all the pets & snuggles she can get. So if you'd like to come meet 'the sweetest thing in the world' and give me some snuggles & pets, fill out the application! I'd love to show you how lovable & snuggly I am! From the vet team: Hello! I arrived at Secondhand Hounds with a bullet wound that resulted in a spine injury and bilateral hip dysplasia. This injury has prevented me from being able to use my back limbs (nonambulatory paraparesis). I have been working with a physical therapist and I received x-rays during my care with the SHH vet team. It is important for my future adopters to know that there is a risk for my hip joint to become dislocated . Since I am not walking on my rear limbs this may never be a concern but depending on the weight that is placed on my rear limbs this is a possibility. My future adopter will be financially responsible for possible future orthopedic surgery or medical management needs.

Story
Hi! My name is Rex and I am from a shelter in Missouri. From the foster: Hey there, I'm Rex, an 8-year-old Lab mix who ended up at Secondhand Hounds after my previous owner passed away. My main goals in life are to shedding a few pounds and give everyone I meet a smile on their face. Carrying 92 pounds, I'm determined to slim down and get back into shape - even though it means saying no to extra treats and focusing on healthier choices. But don't worry, I'm not all work and no play. When it comes to walks, I'm a star - my excitement for exploring and staying active is boundless. Of course, a tennis ball can still distract me, but I'm learning that a good walk is just as exhilarating! I'm a people-pup through and through, and getting along with furry friends like my resident brother and cats is my specialty. Whether they're cats or dogs, I'm here to be everyone's friendly companion. Even though I'm not a hyperactive pup anymore, I've got my priorities straight. A good walk and a game of fetch keep me moving, followed by some well-deserved relaxation in front of the TV. My simple pleasures now include healthier treats and the thrill of a bouncing tennis ball. And rest assured, my heart is as big as my determination. Are you searching for a loyal companion who spreads smiles, stays active on walks, and is committed to a healthier lifestyle? I believe that we would be the perfect match. Life might have thrown me a curveball, but I'm ready to catch your heart and stride alongside you on this journey towards better health and happiness. From our Vet Center: Since my time at Secondhand Hounds it has been determined that some lumps on my chest need further diagnostics. A pathologist has reviewed the results we have already and they are concerned about a type of cancer. Sounds scary, but the type of cancer can be curative with wide margin mass removals. I will need to be seen at SHH Vet Center for a biopsy prior to a full scale mass removal surgery. This biopsy will help my vet better know what I'm dealing with and how to help me recover.

Story
A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by my friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $300.00 will be applied during the contract process. I'm Jazz and a surrender from the reservation! From the Foster: This is Jazz. He is a big, goofy, energetic, and fun guy. Jazz came to stay with us to work on some issues sharing toy and food with other dogs, he is able to get along with some dogs but still sometimes has trouble sharing with certain types of dogs, but that's normal for a lot of adult dogs and still think he will be an awesome family dog. Jazz does well with kids but would due best with dog savvy kids or dog savvy parents that can help guide with kiddos! Due to his heart condition, his bursts of energy are short lived but he does like to run and wrestle. He also does fine on short calm walks, but would not be a good running partner. He gets a bit too excited about cats, so likely not a great cat brother either. Medical Bio: Hello! Throughout my veterinary care at Secondhand Hounds, it was discovered that I have severe pulmonic stenosis. I was one of the first patients to receive an artificial pulmonic Melody valve at the University of Minnesota. Based on my recheck exams, it is likely that I will need to be on medication for life, have check-ups with a cardiologist and my life span will most likely be shortened as a result of my condition. After applying to adopt me, someone from Secondhand Hounds will contact you to go over all my medical information to make sure my adopter understands my medical needs.

Story
Hi! My name is Jack and I am from a shelter in Arkansas. Jack is an extremely affectionate boy that loves people. He also loves playing especially with his lamb chop squeaky toy. He is good on leash walks but will need training on commands. He's a puppy after all! He is very intelligent and will learn quickly. He is the sweetest boy and loves belly rubs and ear scratches. He doesn't bark-not even at squirrels! He likes to lick toads, so be careful around our warted friends. Jack sleeps in a kennel but prefers the door left open while we are working on crate training. He has free roam of the room but stays in his kennel anyway. He is potty trained and can make it through the night without having to go outside. Jack will need slow introductions to other dogs while working on socialization. During walks we let other dogs pass as we wait patiently. Training and socializing should go well with this smart pup once he feels safe and protected. His affinity for felines is unknown.
