I`m Auggie, a 6-year-old Australian cattle dog (red heeler) that came to Animal Ark recently when life with a family that included two adolescents became a little much for me. Here`s what the AKC says about my breed: ACDs have immense work drive and excel at controlling and, of course, moving livestock. Their boundless energy and supple gait make them excellent running partners. ACDs are true-blue loyal, famously smart, tenacious, ever alert, and may be wary of strangers. If an ACD isn`t challenged, it easily becomes bored and may get into mischief. It is recommended that ACD owners participate with these versatile dogs in some work, sport, or regular exercise to keep them mentally and physically fit. It has been an adjustment coming into a shelter after living with my family for six years, and staff here are just getting to know me. If a running partner with the work ethic of a herder sounds like an adventure you are ready for, submit an adoption application to be scheduled for a meet and greet.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER FOSTERING HAZEL with intent to adopt? IF YES, GIVE US A CALL: 651-645-4370 . Hazel is a sweet athletic young lady with a lot of love to give. Hazel was an abandoned dog in a remote rural area. She took up residence under the stairs of a dog loving Elder. The Elder asked if we could take the little dog into rescue as the pooch was homeless, pregnant and it was very cold. The Good Samaritan has stayed in touch with PUP, making regular inquiries about how she is getting along. Very well, thank you. Hazel is a beautiful girl who has been a devoted mommy but is ready to pass on the responsibility to someone else. We had DNA testing done on one pup from the litter. Based on that testing we got Hazel’s DNA. She is Chihuahua, Siberian Husky, Australian Cattle dog, and German Shepherd. She weighs about 30# and is remarkably agile. If someone is looking for a dog to train in agility, Hazel might be your pooch. Check out the video linked at the end of the bio. The area where she came from had many loose and stray dogs so she was accustomed to that environment, but her Good Samaritan said she acted fearful there. In her Saint Paul home she has gotten along well with the resident dog, but is slow to meet new dogs. She is careful meeting new people and it takes her a few minutes to warm up. If given the option she would love to share the bed with her person. Hazel has been vet checked, is vaccinated spayed, and de-wormed. When she was spapyed we found a buckshot pellet suggesting a story we will never hear but can imagine. She is 4yo and 2nd breed is Siberian Husky. My family’s living situation has changed. We have many teenage boys and new faces coming & going, and it is stressful for Elsie as she’s fearful of men at first. We have tried working with a trainer. This decision was not easy, but I hope it is the right choice for both of us. Elsie's ideal home has other dogs because she loves to play & snuggle. She can also adjust to living with cats over time, as she now has a cat friend. She is wary of men, but with time and proper introductions, she will warm up to them. She needs a confident & patient human and stability. She is very smart, food motivated, loves to be by your side. She is very alert to her surroundings and can act like a guard dog but it’s just in her temperament. She is fine in a kennel and needs to eat in a kennel or alone. She’s a beautiful, smart, loving girl and deserves the best. I will keep her until she finds home. I will donate the adoption fee to Carver Scott Humane Society.
