Nana has been in foster care with a MARS staff member since Aug 2021. During this time Nana has been working on all her life skills, with the help of our trainer.  At her annual exam on 6/7/22 she tested positive for heartworm. She went through heartworm treatment with flying colors. She has been retested for heartworm and is now negative. She needs to remain on monthly heartworm prevention, year round, for the rest of her life. Nana came to MARS with some significant fear based reactivity, stranger danger and trust issues. With the dedication of her foster and trainer she has improved dramatically and is ready to find her FOREVER home.  Nana will need to continue using these newly mastered life skills in her new home with a calm and confident human leader. MARS will provide training with her adopter during the transition.  While Nana is able to live in a townhome she would do best without shared walls as she does get vocal when she hears the door bell, loud noises, sees dogs or sees/hears people outside. Nana would LOVE a home with a big fenced yard that she can safely run around and have the zoomies. She loves to chill outside during the warm months! Once you are one of her trusted people she is sweet and cuddly and just wants to be with you. She would prefer to be the only pet in her new home.   If you are interested in learning more about Nana please complete an application! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history. //

Story

She also enjoys playing fetch or goofing around with her feline roommates and has plenty of energy to burn on a long walk or a jog, especially for being over a decade old! Ruby does not live with any other dogs, but she always gets stellar dog-sitting report cards when she spends a few days with the other dogs in their home. That said, her off-leash dog park visits have been a mixed bag. When it comes to chasing and rough housing, she loves to dish it out but can get a bit snippy when it’s reciprocated. Ruby’s food motivation is unmatched, which makes training a piece of cake but can be a challenge when access to human food isn’t tightly controlled. Her foster family likes to call it “opportunistic sharking.” Ruby is selective with unfamiliar humans and can be reactive in new situations, though she typically warms quickly to anyone with a kind voice, a calm body, and a handful of treats. She saw marked improvement through training in the past, and continuing this work will be important for her. She also found life with young kids a bit too chaotic and unpredictable, so she’s looking for a child-free home where she can feel safe and secure. Ruby would absolutely love a fenced yard in her new home. Standing watch (and running fast!) to keep it clear of small animals is one of her favorite pastimes. So if you’re looking for a loving, loyal pup to share your low-stress home (and you’re sick of losing your lilies to nibbling bunnies), Ruby might just be the dog for you!   Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the ADOPT button below. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus taxGracie is the sweetest and happiest little lady! She has the sweetest soul and loves to be loved. She’s playful, goofy, and loves being with her people. She had heartworm treatment over the Fall/Winter and is now loving life not being on exercise restrictions. She has a heartworm test at the end of July and if it’s negative then she will be spayed. She loves to chase squirrels and birds and will spend all day sitting outside making sure the squirrels stay out of her yard. She also loves her 1-2 daily walks and for the most part she does well on the leash during walks, but we are working on her pulling when she’s on the leash anywhere else. Even though she's part Heeler, her energy level is pretty moderate. Our walks are 1-2 miles and if shes outside she'll patrol the yard and chase squirrels, but she'll also hang out on the deck. Some things she likes doing while inside- playing with toys, chewing bones, and looking out the window. She would love if her forever home has a big window she can look out, fenced yard, and a family that will spoil her with attention. She’s met a few kids ranging in ages from 3-13 and she was great with them. She hasn’t met anyone she doesn’t like. She can get mouthy/nippy when playing and she will run out the door if it’s open with no one blocking it to stop her so if she goes to a house with kids, older kids would be a better fit for her. She is picky about dogs so she would like to be the only dog in the house. She will need slow introductions to dogs and does better with dogs who are calm and give her space. The first week she was free to run in the yard she did fence fight the neighbor's dogs, but she’s really quick to pick things up and takes redirection really well so after working with her, she doesn't care about those dogs, even if they come up to the fence and bark at her. She is not a fan of the kennel so she's free to roam the house when left alone and she does great. She is warming up to car rides, but gets nauseas/stressed in the car so no road trips for this gal. Gracie is such an amazing dog and if you’re looking for a dog who can be independent, but still loves attention; is cuddly, but also playful then she's your girl!    If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. //

Story
Who's got the most boobale nose around? My Foster Mom says I DO! I am Wade, a happy-go-lucky pup, with super soft fur who loves to cuddle and is the handsomest boy. I am an Australian Shepherd and was born approx 12/7/23.  I am learning to play with toys (tug, fetch, bone chewing, sniffing out in the yard). My breed is a working dog, so I naturally want to be close to you & like to be where the action is. I am doing very well with potty training as long as I am on a schedule. I have started to tell my foster mom when I need to go outside, and can make it through the night without needing to go out! I also do well in my kennel and have done well at large, busy places like breweries.  Since I am a runner, a fenced-in yard is best for me, as I like to have my space to run & explore....hey, a squirrel is in the yard! I love being with people and other dogs, so  an active family would be my dream. I am working on sit, shake & stay, getting better each day.       Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Jenny is a mini Aussie born 4/17/21.   I also call her JJ and Jen Jen.   Jenny is still working on potty training. She doesn’t let you know when she has to go. She does use a reusable pee pad, when she does have to go. She will chew up the disposable ones. She is kennel trained and does great. The longest I’ve had her kenneled is 12 hours and she hasn’t had an accident when in her kennel. She is still getting used to my 6 year old, so I would say older kids would be best. She has been great with the other dogs she’s met. She is good with my cat although she can play rough but she redirects well.    She does good on the leash and is now great in the car. She likes putting her head out the window.  She has a high energy level so a fenced in yard would be best. She is extremely fast and hard to catch. She does have a good recall. She’s still cautious and skittish with new people.   It took her 6-8 weeks for her to trust me and can still be skittish with me. She will paw and bark at you to get your attention. She will also let you cuddle with her.   She is making progress everyday. She is not kenneled at night and I allow her to sleep in my bed. If you kennel her while you’re home she will bark and paw at her kennel door. Once she trusts you she’ll be your best friend and protector. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, dental, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
