Hi! My name is Shellder and I am from Kentucky. From his foster: Shellder is an inquisitive puppy. While he was timid when he initially arrived to our home, he has acclimated well. He is now playful and affectionate. He likes to be independent and has become an explorer checking out all the areas he can get to in the house. He is not interested in being a lap puppy but likes to tussel with his brother and loves his toys. He is working on potty training and is learning to ring the bell at the door to go outside. This is a work in progress and he is not perfect..yet. Shellder has learned the commands "Sit", "Lay down" and is working on wait (especially with mealtime) but he gets so excited and forgets to listen. He's a smart pup and is very treat motivated.

Story
Hi! My name is Azurill and I am from Kentucky. From her foster: Words that describe Azurill are inquisitive, confident, bold, playful and chill. She is happy to see everyone - people and dogs (unknown with cats). She has no hesitation to jump into a play session with the bigger resident dogs. They are gentle with her showing her the ropes. She sometimes will bark to get the other dogs to play with her. Since she is very inquisitive, she will put just about anything in her mouth to test it out, so put away anything you don't want chewed and provide chewable toys instead. She will self-entertain with her toys. When she is not playing, she enjoys napping or lounging near wherever you are. Potty training so far involves frequent breaks and close observation to pick up on her cues. She has been learning "go potty" when she goes pee or poop. Every day she gets better at sitting by the door when she needs to go out. She is sleeping about 5-7 hours at night before needing a potty break. Sleeping in the crate did not go over well, so she is out in our bedroom. After the first couple nights, she has not had an accident in the bedroom. Azurill is learning more about the crate by eating her meals there. She enthusiastically will enter it waiting for her food, but still needs more patient practice for times you are away. Azurill is learning how leashes and tie outs work. She does fantastic on walks with our resident dogs. Respectful kids who can learn how to train her when she uses her sharp puppy teeth and claws to play should do well with her. Azurill has proven to be gentle when taking food treats by hand. Amazing for her age!

Hi! My name is Aragorn and I am from Texas. From his foster: Aragorn is a sweet boy, loves to be with his people and dog friends. He is moderate to high energy, loves to play with other dogs and will do really well with a dog friend/sibling. He's potty trained and crate trained. His herding instinct comes out when he is around younger kids, so he would do better with older kids/adults. He's very smart and food motivated so is easy to train. He would be a great match for playful dog looking for a companion! He loves to go on walks and is learning his leash manners.

Hi I'm Uno I was born in rescue to Momma Esther! From the foster: Uno is a very sweet cuddly puppy. He was born in rescue to Esther(40lbs.). He is working on potty training and doing well. He sleeps through the night in his own kennel and has no accidents. He gets along with all big and small dogs in our home and is wondering what our cat is. UPDATE: Uno is equal parts rambunctious puppy and sweet cuddle bug rolled into one handsome dude. His house training has been going well with very few accidents- he's on the cusp of mastery. He knows commands 'sit', 'shake' and 'lay down' and is very food motivated. He has enjoyed playing with our resident dog and would likely appreciate living in a home with other furry friends.

Story
Hi, I'm Alice! I'm a transfer from Missouri! From the foster: Alice is an incredibly sweet, goofy playful girl who will sneak her way into your heart! She is a little shy at first, and needs a little time to warm up to new people and doggo friends, but if she's given that, she will be frolicking and romping with other pups and giving you kisses in no time! Once she knows you're safe, she will be your new best friend. It only took about 24 hours for her to feel safe with our resident pups (and now she LOVES to play chase and snuggle with them). She will go into her kennel when we call "places!" for breakfast and dinner, and stays there when we're gone (though she sometimes will let you know she's not a *huge* fan of this). She sleeps in a kennel next to our bed perfectly content. She loves her people and wants to hang out with you, but would much rather sleep with you overnight if she's allowed. She LOVES to snuggle. When we go outside, she LOVES to do the zoomies! Those are her two speeds, and she is pretty balanced between the two. Alice is super smart (and food motivated). Since she's been with us she has learned sit, lay down, come, and has shake and drop it in the works. She is even starting to bring the ball back when she's not busy playing keep away with it from our resident pup. We have seen a slipper or two "wander off", but if you keep those out of her reach it isn't an issue. We're working on chewing on "approved items," and she listens very well and is easily redirected when you tell her what she has isn't approved. Alice LOVES KIDS. She perks up when they interact with her, and has been patient with their pets when we've been able to introduce her to some. She is a world champion toy de-fluffer, and she is always mighty proud of those accomplishments. Cats are unknown, but she does chase the squirrels who have been brave enough to enter our yard. Alice is an absolute sweetheart, with a lot of love to give!

Story
I am Keno. I am from Missouri. From the foster: Keno is timid, sweet and docile. He loves friendly dogs and stays near our resident dog like Velcro, but he is very shy with people. He will do best in a home with another friendly, confident dog to help him gain confidence and patient adopters who are willing to help him continue learning to trust. We are working on house training. Keno is an active boy who does well on leash and enjoys his daily walks, as well as running around in a fenced yard. He recently joined our rescue and still requires a harness and leash when outside in the yard, as he will rarely come inside on his own. We are working on making people less scary to him. Keno is 7.5 years old and has a heart murmur. He shows no sign of it slowing him down. He's an energetic boy. Medical Bio: "Hi! I'm Keno, my foster mom said the vet told her I have a heart murmur that they graded 3/6. X-rays did not show any signs of heart failure which is great news. The cardiologist report concluded normal heart size and a good prognosis even with the murmur. My adopters should plan on check ups every 6-12 months to monitor this going forward. Overall I am healthy and clear to be adopted and proceed with the dental procedure that I need in a few months. The vet will use heart safe anesthetic protocols to make sure everything goes smoothly. At my exam I was also treated for an ear infection and started on a weight loss plan which my future family should continue to make sure I can have a well lived and long life! The Bond Between will cover medical expenses for the dental and an upcoming ear recheck to make sure my infection was cleared. I can't wait to meet you and settle into my furever home!"

Hi. I'm Stoat but my foster family named me Hamilton--"Hammy" for short because I'm such a ham! From the foster: Hammy is a bundle of joy and a heart-stealer from the moment you lay eyes on him. This pint-sized pup, with his fluffy fur and twinkling eyes is ready to shower his new family with boundless love and endless tail wags. While he is recovering from surgery (see note from the vet below), he doesn't let that stop him from living life to the fullest! He loves to play, snuggle, & explore. He's great with dogs and children of all ages. He hasn't been tested with cats, but given his personality, I imagine he would do well with cats who also like to play. Hammy knows some basic obedience and is quickly learning more (sit, lay down, shake). He is crate trained and potty trained too! Hammy is very adaptable to different lifestyles. The main consideration his new family should have, is someone committed to fulfilling his activity needs given his age and breed type. Hammy can't wait to meet his furever family! Could you be them? Please apply to learn more about Hammy and/or to setup a meet & greet. From the vet team My name is Stoat and I had a bit of an accident so I came back to SHH for the amazing vet care they were able to provide. I sustained a fracture in both of my rear legs that was promptly repaired by our orthopedic specialist. She recommended a recheck around early to mid January (and possibly one more recheck pending healing progress) and I will have to get my stitches out soon. The surgical implants that were placed will in most cases like mine not cause any problems, but in some cases may need to be taken out if they seem to be hurting me or my growth as I heal over the next 6-12 weeks. This would all be covered by SHH, but any other care outside of taking care of the fracture would be the responsibility of my new adopters. For a full 8 weeks after 12/5 when my surgery took place, my future adopters should take care to restrict my activity and exercise to allow for the best healing journey possible. Hope to meet you soon and settle into my new furever!

Story
A portion of Moana's s adoption fee has been sponsored by her friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $400.00 will be applied during the contract process Hi! My name is Moana and I am an owner surrender. This special needs beautiful little girl has made wonderful strides in the 2 months that I've had her. She's getting stronger bit by bit. She is personality plus! She loves to snuggle, loves to play and just gets sooo very excited when you talk to her, get down on the floor to play with her and if the big resident dogs are even just near her. She has a feisty side, too, and does not like to be left out of anything!! She is making great progress in potty training and she'll usually vocally alert you-day or night- when she has to go...but know that she'll still have some accidents. At this point, she doesn't have the coordination to be upright to eat on her own so I still hold her securely in my lap to feed her several small meals a day and also to keep her hydrated (I soak her kibble and still give her some soft food. She will not drink straight water so we are still working on that and by soaking her kibble, it flavors the water and she'll drink it to get to the kibble.) She loves all people and dogs. She hasn't had contact with cats yet that I know of. She'll need flat, safe surfaces when she's in her wheels. She does best on carpets or rugs or grass when upright in her harness to practice balance, strength and walking. She'll need to continue strengthening her muscles and working on her balance. At this point, she cannot get up from the floor on her own. Once she's on her side, she can only move around by scratching/shuffling. She does great for car rides. She sleeps nicely in her soft sided kennel at night, only alerting me by whimpering once or twice per night that she has to go out to potty. She is one of the happiest pups that I've ever fostered and will give her forever family sooooo much love!! From the vet team: Hello! I arrived at Secondhand Hounds as part of the Fighter Fund program due to my Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) diagnosis. CH is a condition resulting from inadequate development of the cerebellum which causes lack of balance/coordination, ambulating, head bobbing, tremors, etc. The SHH Vet Team has provided my foster with physical therapy exercises to help gain strength but I will always have this condition. I have a wheel chair and a harness to help with movement but it is also recommended that my future adopter lay down rubber mats to help with my movement. My future adopter should understand my condition and monitor my health with a primary veterinarian. Also, I have an upcoming surgery with an opthamologist due to ablation of eyelashes which will freeze and kill the hair follicles to help prevent regrowth of these abnormal hairs. This surgery and eye recheck appointment will be covered by SHH as long as it is performed at Animal Eye Speciality Center/Secondhand Hounds Vet Center.
