I'm Rhys, a sweet and cuddly Great Pyr Mix. I'm a handsome boy, weighing in at 45 pounds and still a puppy, so I'm growing and learning every day! At home, I'm all about the cuddles. Whether it's on the couch, bed, your lap (even though I'm a bit big for that), or basking in a sunny spot, I'm happiest when I'm close to my humans. I'm also quite playful with other dogs – I love a good game of chase and splashing around in a kiddy pool. I might be a bit clumsy, but I've mastered the art of tucking and rolling when I tumble – hee hee! Belly rubs are my favorite, and I'm always ready to give you lots of kisses when you need them. I'm almost potty trained – just need to stick to a good schedule. I'm getting better with my crate, too. I might bark a bit at first, but I settle down quickly. I'm still working on my leash skills, but I go for daily walks and enjoy them. I know some basic commands like "sit" and "down." I'm great with other dogs of all sizes, and while I love having doggy friends, I could be happy as an only dog too, as long as I'm not left alone for long periods. In fact, I would thrive with other dogs in my forever home so hope you have some playmates for me. All in all, I'm a low-energy, affectionate pup looking for my forever home where I can continue to grow, learn, and share all my love. At 6 months old, it is obvious I am going to be a big boy, but I like to make myself as little as possible. That way I can fit in your lap, or in a cushy little dog bed. My foster moms tell me that my eyes make them melt, and makes it awfully hard to say no to me. I add to the cuteness factor by making one ear look broken…works every time. As I wait for my forever family to find me, I get to stay with dogs of all ages and sizes, and I love to play with them all. I'm Cassian and just like my namesake I am as handsome as can be. My foster mama says I have the softest and most beautiful fur of all of my siblings. I love every single toy in my foster home and love to play with them by myself. My people said that I am so goofy with toys and don't have a favorite because I love them all. It is very important that I have a biiiggg toybox in my forever home - hee hee! My brothers and I can get a little rowdy together so I do also love to play and wrestle with other doggies. But when it is nap time - watch out couch because here I come! My name is Duncan and I am a spunky boy! It did take me a while to get to be this comfortable and spunky though. I was pretty nervous for almost a full week in my new foster home, but with the help of my foster doggie brothers and the patience of my foster parents, I've learned that humans aren't scary and hands can be gentle. I play really well with the other dogs and I like to play wrestle, chase, and tug-o-war. My foster home has these potty bells by the stairs and I'm supposed to ring them when I need to go, but I'm still learning. I just get so excited when I'm playing, that I forget! One place I never potty though is my kennel. I like to keep my kennel clean! I'm really good at going into my kennel when the humans in my house leave for work, and I also sleep in my kennel at night. Just say, 'kennel!' and I'll walk right in. I get a biscuit every time! The humans say I have to sleep in my kennel until I'm potty trained. When I'm out of my kennel and playing, I like to run and give kisses to my humans! They let me snuggle and play on the bed and getting belly rubs is amazing! Sometimes I fall asleep in the human bed at my foster mom's feet and I have to get carried to the kennel at bed time. It's important to know that my past is not fully known, and I do get nervous around new people and new places and I take a while to warm up. I stayed at a vacation foster for a couple nights and I hid behind the living room chair when we were inside - I just wasn't sure! But if you choose me to be your forever, just know I need some time but I will be your best friend once I know for sure you're safe. Speaking of safe, it would be best for me to have a doggie sibling to learn from and help me feel comfortable! I'm still kinda scared of the leash, but a harness could work much better for me! I have cat siblings at my foster home, and I'm usually OK with them, but I do like to chase sometimes and try to play with them like I do the dogs. If my new family has cats, just remember to be patient with me as I'm still a baby and learning all things dog. I just know I'll be a great addition to your family! This timid girl takes a little bit of time to warm up, but once she does you will see her wonderful personality blossom. Her favorite pastimes include wrestling with her foster siblings, giving kisses, and chewing on sticks. Bridget is a sweetheart who loves hopping up on the couch for cuddles and will be your best friend once you’ve earned her trust.This little lass is 99% potty trained and has only had one accident in her new foster mom’s house! She is an excellent houseguest who does not chew on household items and does not jump on counters. Bridget is very eager to please and readily goes into her kennel to sleep peacefully until you are ready to let her out. She knows the commands for Kennel and Come, and is working on mastering her other basics. She gets along great with other dogs and gets very excited to meet other pups. An inquisitive and observant dog, Bridget enjoys going for walks to see the world around her and is working on her leash manners.Bridget will do best in a home that understands she is shy and needs to be given time to adjust to her new surroundings and new people. She is still learning that not all humans are scary and will take a few days to get comfortable with her new family. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Twila… This girl had a rough start to life living most of her young life with mange. When she was found she was in a dumpster ready to give up. Rescue stepped in and now she is no longer that dog. She is young and vibrant and so full of love and life. She is such a good girl that wants to please her person and loves to be at your side. She is smart as a whip learning new things everyday. She knows sit, nahuh, come, and kennel (with the help of her treats). Twila loves everyone she meets humans, canines and even chickens . She is kennel trained however she would probably be fine out of her kennel after she settles in somewhere new and I KNOW she would love to sleep with her human as snuggles are one of her favorite things. Twila is potty trained never having accidents in her kennel but should be let out frequently when out of her kennel to help her keep mastering this. She has just realized what toys are and has decided that tennis balls are her favorite along with hard chew toys, Lamb Chop is her baby always being gentle with her nibbles and bringing it to bed with her at night. Twila has a gift of knowing when you are upset and will come up to you with her gentle kisses to remind you that everything will be okay. She truly is a special dog that I feel realizes how lucky she is to have this 2nd chance at life and she is not wasting it. Twila loves to spend time in the garden helping clear the weeds and eating green beans. She does will in the car and enjoys the occasional pup cup. When her busy day is over and it is time to unwind she is happy to lay in her dog bed and snooze. Twila would do well  in  a home with kids who can  withstand her  energetic hugs and the whips of her happy tail. She is the Muttiest of Mutt with over 20 breeds detected in her DNA (Pictures attached :) ) Twila has her vetting scheduled for 8/12and should be able to head to her new home 8/17. Derek once had a family, only to be tossed away when he developed mange. A non-contagious skin condition that makes pups lose their fur and be itchy - making them develop some skin infections. Good news? Derek was rescued and is well on his way to a full recovery.  Derek is a happy, goofy, playful boy that just loves life. He LOVES to fetch, run around the yard and he really, really loves other dogs. Another dog to keep building his confidence and teaching him it's ok to just be a pup would be really great in Derek's forever home.  Derek is crate trained, house trained and knows his basic manners. He is currently working on keeping all four paws on the floor (he gets really excited to see his people!) and loose leash walking. If Derek could be directly next to another dog or his people all day, he would be so happy! Derek is also good with cats - though he will try to herd them if they let him. When the resident cats give him a swat or a hiss, he backs off.  While Derek is OK with the kids in his foster home now after being with them for a month, he was very nervous of the kiddos when he first arrived. With that, Derek will only be placed in a home with no kids or older dog/savvy kids. Kids were obviously very mean to him in his previous environment, and they make him very unsure of who can be trusted. As his confidence grows and he realizes he is truly safe now, this may subside and be a non-issue. Until then, we want to be sure Derek feels comfortable in any environment he will be in!  Derek's foster family did send in a DNA tets on him and it came back with a mixture of 18 different breeds! The highest percentages were: 26% Australian Cattle Dog, 15% Border Collie and 12% American Staffordshire Terrier and 7% Boston Terrier! The other 14 breeds were all 5% or lower.  Derek's ideal family is one that is active and can keep his body and mind busy. One that is home frequently as he craves to be next to those that he loves - someone who works from home like his foster family does or is retired would be ideal! A family that can continue on his training - he is a bright boy that needs to build his confidence and training is a great way to do that.  Derek currently lives in the country with a large fenced yard - he LOVES to be outside and explore with his family. He has never been in a neighborhood/city setting but his foster family feels like that would be OK with enough time to settle in and be comfortable in his surroundings.
