Story
Name: Amelia Breeds: Collie Mix Age: Puppy Sex: Female Size: Large when fully grown Amelia is a sweetheart of a 4 month old puppy. She is best guessed to be some kind of collie type mix. Amelia loves everyone, is great with dogs, curious about the cats but when they swatted at her she quickly picked up that they didn’t want to be her friends, and she loves all people. She is everything a young puppy should be! She is expected to be a large dog as an adult. She is a typical puppy so a forever home should prepare for all the puppy fun, socialization, training, and everything takes to make a puppy into the best dog they can be. We highly recommend training classes to set everyone up for success. Housetraining and cratetraining have been started but expect to continue working on it. Puppies can hold their bladders on average for 1 hour more than their age in months (ex: 2 month old puppy should be able to hold it about 3 hours). Puppies play hard, sleep hard, and love hard. The puppy stage can be tough but so worth it! Requirements: No special requirements Adoption Fee: $600 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $450 plus tax**Duncan will require another dog in his adoptive home**Hi! My name is Duncan and I am a spunky boy! It did take me a while to get to be this comfortable and spunky though. I was pretty nervous for almost a full week in my new foster home, but with the help of my foster doggie brothers and the patience of my foster parents, I've learned that humans aren't scary and hands can be gentle. I play really well with the other dogs and I like to play wrestle, chase, and tug-o-war. My foster home has these potty bells by the stairs and I'm supposed to ring them when I need to go, but I'm still learning. I just get so excited when I'm playing, that I forget! One place I never potty though is my kennel. I like to keep my kennel clean! I'm really good at going into my kennel when the humans in my house leave for work, and I also sleep in my kennel at night. Just say, 'kennel!' and I'll walk right in. I get a biscuit every time! The humans say I have to sleep in my kennel until I'm potty trained. When I'm out of my kennel and playing, I like to run and give kisses to my humans! They let me snuggle and play on the bed and getting belly rubs is amazing! Sometimes I fall asleep in the human bed at my foster mom's feet and I have to get carried to the kennel at bed time. It's important to know that my past is not fully known, and I do get nervous around new people and new places and I take a while to warm up. I stayed at a vacation foster for a couple nights and I hid behind the living room chair when we were inside - I just wasn't sure! But if you choose me to be your forever, just know I need some time but I will be your best friend once I know for sure you're safe. Speaking of safe, it would be best for me to have a doggie sibling to learn from and help me feel comfortable! I'm still kinda scared of the leash, but a harness could work much better for me! I have cat siblings at my foster home, and I'm usually OK with them, but I do like to chase sometimes and try to play with them like I do the dogs. If my new family has cats, just remember to be patient with me as I'm still a baby and learning all things dog. I just know I'll be a great addition to your family! If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi there! I'm Rhys, a sweet and cuddly Great Pyr Mix. I'm a handsome boy, weighing in at 45 pounds and still a puppy, so I'm growing and learning every day! At home, I'm all about the cuddles. Whether it's on the couch, bed, your lap (even though I'm a bit big for that), or basking in a sunny spot, I'm happiest when I'm close to my humans. I'm also quite playful with other dogs – I love a good game of chase and splashing around in a kiddy pool. I might be a bit clumsy, but I've mastered the art of tucking and rolling when I tumble – hee hee! Belly rubs are my favorite, and I'm always ready to give you lots of kisses when you need them. I'm almost potty trained – just need to stick to a good schedule. I'm getting better with my crate, too. I might bark a bit at first, but I settle down quickly. I'm still working on my leash skills, but I go for daily walks and enjoy them. I know some basic commands like "sit" and "down." I'm great with other dogs of all sizes, and while I love having doggy friends, I could be happy as an only dog too, as long as I'm not left alone for long periods. In fact, I would thrive with other dogs in my forever home so hope you have some playmates for me. All in all, I'm a low-energy, affectionate pup looking for my forever home where I can continue to grow, learn, and share all my love. Could that be with you? *I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.  T his puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.   Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application. We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi! I'm Cassian and just like my namesake I am as handsome as can be. My foster mama says I have the softest and most beautiful fur of all of my siblings. I love every single toy in my foster home and love to play with them by myself. My people said that I am so goofy with toys and don't have a favorite because I love them all. It is very important that I have a biiiggg toybox in my forever home - hee hee! My brothers and I can get a little rowdy together so I do also love to play and wrestle with other doggies. But when it is nap time - watch out couch because here I come! I also love snoozing with my people in the hammock in the yard.  My people said I am a very smart boy and learning all the important puppy skills like potty training, leash training and crate training. I don't need a fence in my forever home if you promise to keep working with me on leash training.  Ready for a cute puppy that is ready for adventures! I love car rides so I know we will go lots of places together! I can't wait to meet you! *I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Story
Cameron is an 8 yr old male border collie/retriever mix that came into our program a few months ago. His owner had died, and no other family members were able to take him in – so Cameron lived outside for 2 months on a tieout, and a kind neighbor fed him until a rescue could be found. When Cameron first came, he did not want to come in the house and he was leery of the cat. He now gladly comes in the house, but always checks to see where the cat is. Cameron gets along well with the resident dog and the two older dogs that visited. The dogs like to be in the front yard where they can watch people and dogs walk by. Cameron would enjoy the companionship of another mature medium-size dog. Cameron and the cat usually ignore each other. Any children in the home should be at least 12 yr old - younger kids might play too rough with him, and toddlers might climb on him. Cameron has been invited up on the couch and bed - he has only been on the bed two times – just to check it out - he seems to prefer sleeping on the hard wood floor where it is cooler or on a throw rug. He has also only been on the couch twice, so if you are looking for a dog that doesn’t go up on the furniture, Cameron could be your match. He is good meeting new people, and likes attention. He got out of the yard once when the gate was not securely closed. He went for a brisk walk down the block, eventually going into the fenced play ground area of the neighborhood school. When he saw the leash in his foster’s hand, he gladly came and was walked home. He had ignored any calling of his name, probably because he hadn’t learned his new name yet. The dogs are in and out of the house many times during the day as the yard is fenced in and safe for them. When Cameron is asked if he wants to go “outside” he sort of excitedly barks and wags his tail and heads for the door (otherwise he is a relatively quiet dog) and he does ask to go out by coming to you and whimpering. He rides in the car nicely (needs an assist to get in), although it is probably a new experience for him. Cameron was very aware of the Fourth of July fireworks sounds, but didn’t seem to be overly upset or nervous. He was very happy to be inside with the other animals. Cameron has one unique habit. He is fascinated with shadows and reflections of shiny things. It could be that he had been tied up most of his life, so that was one thing he used to amuse himself. He has spent a fair amount of his life on a tie-out, so now we would like him to have a fenced yard to move around in. Cameron is neutered and vaccinated. In March of this year he had routine blood chemistries done that were clinically normal, and in that same month had a dental cleaning with one extraction. In May , he had a lump on his left back foot removed - pathology wasn't cancer - it was a bunch of hair, skin, & other miscellaneous tissue they couldn't really identify (this is all healed up). His microchip is registered to Second Chance. He has some muscular atrophy over the left hip area- likely osteoarthritis, and is on fish oil and glucosamine supplements (and should continue on these). Also, he should not gain any weight – he weighs 52#, which the vet says is about the maximum weight for him. Arthritic hips make it difficult for him to negotiate the steps – he just doesn’t have the strength in his back end – so he needs a single level home with only 1 or 2 entry steps. He can’t jump up on furniture, or into the car. If there is another dog in the home, it should not rough-house or jump on him to play. Low impact exercise – such as walking or swimming, is encouraged. His adoption fee is $225. Call 651-771-5662 if you would like to meet Cameron. He is a gentle, mellow, well behaved dog.
