Story
Welcome Drummer to CCPAL Rescue. Drummer is an 8-year-old wire-haired Dachshund. He was adopted out by us 4 years ago. He was 4 at the time. He has been loved and bonded deeply to the woman that adopted him. He would love another home with a quieter home that would allow him to get the attention he needs and deserves. He has found himself in need of a new forever home. His owner has been put in hospice and can no longer care for him. The immediate family cannot care for him so we stepped up and will find this precious boy his new forever home. He is trying to adjust to the Rescue again. The treats from our friends in New Jersey helped him today along with all the nice gifts. His owner has been put in hospice and can no longer care for him. The immediate family cannot care for him so we stepped up and will find this precious boy his new forever home. 5.5 may sound out but it truly is middle aged in Dachshunds lifespans. They can easily live to be 17 years old. If you love the breed, you know how loyal and bonded these dogs are to their person. They are a single dog person dog. They may love other people but they are loyal to one. He sheds some but not over the top. He is a good weight and his teeth are not too bad for his age. You can tell he was cared for and that he is disoriented with his new arrangement at the Rescue. He is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. Story
Welcome Mutz to CCPAL Rescue. Mutz is a 3-year-old Daug (Dachshund /Pug). He weighs about 12 pounds and is full grown and a nice weight. This dog came from the hoarder or overabundance of dog situation. He has an adorable underbit and has really blossomed at the Rescue. He is a quieter dog and has learned to like to be held. He is definitely a lap companion. He is playful with other dogs and has the sturdy body of the Pug. He would love to be a companion for a person that is retired, partially retired or maybe someone with a household that wants a dog with a lower energy to join in. He would be ok with a smaller condo size yard. He is learning leash manners and getting used to commotion of the Rescue. He hasn’t experienced a lot of different things so he isn’t sure yet but he is really really nice. He is not a big shedding dog. He is fine with nail trims and baths and will make some lucky family a great companion. I would say anyone moderately active would be fine for this dog. He bonds deeply and he warms up with affection nicely. He would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. He is getting vaccinations, neutered and he will be ready for his forever home soon. He is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is 400 and transport is $200. Age: DOB 6/5/2025 Weight: 26.6 lbs. Dog friendly: Yes, requires companion dog in the home Cat friendly: unknown/not tested Kid friendly: yes Potty trained: yes Crate trained: yes Meet Almond — The Shy Guy With a Whole Lot of Love to Give Almond is a gentle, goofy, snuggly sweetheart who just needs a little time to feel safe before he shows you his true personality. When meeting new people, he tends to tuck himself under a table or behind a chair at first — it’s his cozy “thinking spot” while he decides if you’re trustworthy. Give him an hour or two, and suddenly you’ve got a happy, wiggly, affectionate little shadow who wants nothing more than to curl up next to you on the couch. Once Almond warms up, he’s a total delight. He loves plushie toys (and yes, he’s a proud toy destroyer), enjoys playing with other dogs, and is a quiet, gentle soul who rarely barks. He takes treats with the softest little nibble and is a champion snuggler. Almond is fully potty trained, not a single accident or marking since arriving in rescue, and he can potty on leash, so a fenced yard isn’t required. He rides well in the car, gets along great with other dogs, and would thrive with a confident canine buddy to help him feel secure in new situations. He sleeps through the night in his crate and is almost there with daytime crate training. He’ll whine a bit at first but settles quickly, and he’ll even go in on his own when he’s ready for a nap. If you’re looking for a quiet, cuddly couch potato who just needs a little patience before he becomes your loyal, goofy best friend, Almond might be your perfect match! Adoption fee: $595

Story
Your future best friend just spun her way into town, and she’s ready to steal your heart (and your leftover wet food).   Meet Lucita (or Lucy, or Lucy Lou, or just "The Potato"). Here is the lowdown on this Dachshund-mix masterpiece:    Her Signature Moves The 360-Degree Spin: Why walk in a straight line when you can twirl? Lucita literally spins through life. She can walk straight, she just prefers to put a little spice on it. (Bonus: The more relaxed she gets, the less she spins!)   The "No Teeth, No Problem" Smile: Thanks to a wild underbite, Lucita recently had 17 teeth removed. She’s fully healed and totally unfazed. She can still crunch kibble, but she will absolutely sing you the song of her people for some wet food.   The T-Rex Hops: When playtime hits, she does these adorable little bunny hops and pounces on her toys. She can get a little mouthy when she’s hyped up, but since she has no front teeth, she really just gently gums you.    Social Status & Vibes "I love humans. Other animals are... fine, I guess." — Lucita's Review of Life   The Fun Police: She currently co-exists with two dogs and three cats. She’s totally fine sharing a roof with them, but she’s not looking for a party animal. If other dogs start playing too loudly, she goes into "Mommy Mode" to break up the fun.   The Management: Lucita excels at micro-managing her humans. If you aren't giving her enough attention, she will lock eyes with you and give a tiny, dramatic whine until you fix your behavior.   The Routine Queen: She is a car-ride champion, quiets down like a dream in her kennel, and is semi-potty trained. Keep her on a good routine, and she’s golden! Because of her spunky play style, older kiddos are best.   When she isn't busy being a total comedian, Lucita just wants to be your 27-pound weighted blanket. She is perfectly content to curl up in your bed, nestle into the couch cushions, or trot along with you on a walk.   Ready to add some literal spin to your life? Apply to adopt Lucita today!        Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:  $450.00Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 13, 2026, 12:09 pm

Story
Welcome Draco to CCPAL foster program. Draco is a 3 year old 7 month old Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund). He weighs about 9 pounds. He is very social and loves cuddles. He loves the good Samaritan that found him on the streets in the Texas snow storm. Draco is great with other dogs and we think his best home would be with another playful dog or a person that is home and would love to play ball, walk and cuddle Draco. He doesn’t dig or tear up anything in the house and he does his business outside. He will use a potty pad if it is too long for him to hold. He is an opportunist when a gate or door is open and will take that opportunity. He will stay behind a baby gate if there is one and his foster is also going to introduce him to a crate. Right now he is allowed partial free roam while she is away at work. He is super social and loving so he would be fine around children. We like them to be 8 or older. He is neutered, microchipped and will have all vaccines topped up before he leaves the Rescue. He likes strangers but will bark if someone is at the door. He is lower on the shed scale but he does shed. His arms curl around your hands when you pick him up. He really likes being held. He is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is 400 and transport is 200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.
