You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus taxWalter AKA Wishbone is a very good boy, he is house trained, has very good house manners and is respectful of the resident dog. He loves people and is a good playmate with dogs. He is very smart and picked up sit and shake right away.  Wishbone really likes to be close and cuddle with people. He can be a goofy guy when he wants to play, and he likes chew toys and plush toys. He really likes to crawl under the covers and let’s out some good snores.  Wishbone could use some more leash training, but he is a fast learner! We are still working on getting him comfortable in the kennel, but he is able to be left alone in a spare room with a baby gate and will settle quite fast. Walter may bark when left alone for a few mins, but will settle fairly quickly. Wishbone does not bark at people or dogs or when someone knocks on the door. Wishbone would love a home with another dog to play with and someone to play and cuddle with him. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. Story
Hello, my Name is Mielle (Mi-el) – it means “honey” in English (even though it is not technically spelled correctly in Spanish, I am not sure what happened there). I think I was given this name because of my honey-like colored coat that resembles the color of honey! You may ask why my name is Mielle instead of honey, well that is because I came from Tijuana, Mexico, which is where my journey started. I have had a rough short two years of life this far and have not really had a chance to feel safe until I came to Minnesota with No Dog Left Behind Rescue. My foster moms have been so kind, sweet, loving and caring, but I have a huge guard up. I think it may be fair to share my story so if you are really truly interested in adopting me, you understand it will take time and patience.  I am originally from Tijuana, Mexico. I spent the first year of my life as a stray, running the streets of Mexico. I learned how to defend myself and take care of myself without the help of any humans. After some time, I was taken into foster care. That time is a little fuzzy and I was not comfortable because I was so used to being a stray, so humans scared me. During that time, I ended up having puppies, which was back in October of just last year (2023). After I had my puppies (3 months later), I was brought to MN in January 2024. As you can imagine that is a lot for a little girl like me, who is only 2 years old. When I came to MN. I was timid, shy and unsure of what was going on. I was put into yet another foster home without anything familiar to me. There I spent about 2.5 months with my new foster mom, she was great, but it did take me a while to adjust to the new setting. I was scared, so I didn’t want to come out of my crate for a few days, but my foster mom would take me out to go potty. After about a week, I finally decided I was in a safe place and could start to relax a little more with my foster mom and walk around the yard with her on my leash. However, the foster mom had a son, and he scared me, like really scared me, something traumatic in Mexico must have happened with a man so they really scare me. When I would see foster moms’ son, I would run to my crate and get really scared and shake. Because of this, foster mom thought it would be best if I was moved into a different foster home that didn’t have males. So, I moved into yet another new foster home in April. This brings me to my current foster home. When we arrived at my new foster home, I was so scared.  I had no idea why I was being moved again since I was getting comfortable at the last one. My new foster mom set my crate down in the living room and opened the door. I did not want to come out, she allowed me time to get comfortable. It took me 4 days to finally feel comfortable to come out. During the night she would put an x-pen up around my crate with puppy pads and my food and water in with me. At night when no one was around I would come out of my crate to eat, drink, and go potty on the puppy pads. I did that for about 4 days, then after that I finally got brave and came out of my crate. Foster mom has a resident puppy who is 8 months old and likes to play but is a bit bigger than me and kind of scared me a little. Foster mom also had a little toy cup poodle puppy who I think thought I was her mom, and I enjoyed her company. After about a week I was starting to come around. But then the foster mom had her nephews over, I did not like that. When they came over to pet me, I got really scared and warned them with a growl to not come near me. I was still not feeling comfortable with men. It has been a month now since I have been here with my foster mom and resident pup, I am still adjusting and have my days. I still get scared when foster mom comes over sometimes for no reason at all. If foster mom walks near my dog bed area where I am laying, I will get up and move. I don’t mind the resident dog, he tries to play with me, but I am just not sure what to do and I want to play but then I get scared and run back to my dog bed. When I am outside in the fenced area, I feel the happiest, my tail starts to wag, and I think foster mom knows that is where I am comfortable because I look happiest outside! I do not like seeing the leash, when I see that I freeze up and shut down and take steps backwards, so if I need to be on a leash, it’s best to pick me up and bring me to my leash while holding me. I think I would do best in a home with no other dogs or maybe a smaller quieter dog, a fenced in yard where you can just let me out to run and a preferred female only home and no kids!  I know these are high demands, but I know my perfect human is out there who will love me, and we will be best friends!  I know my bio is long, but I want people to understand me and know when you bring me home, I will be scared, and it will take time and patience and if you read this far and are still interested and think you would be a perfect fit, please apply for me! I really would love a fur ever home! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $450.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 6, 2024, 11:10 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Roxy & Penny are bonded 10 year old mini dachshunds who are needing a new home, due to the death of their owner. They have a few years on them, but that just makes them more interesting! Penny is the brains of this dynamic duo and Roxy is the beauty, with her blonde, flowing mane. The ladies like a good meal and Penny can hear the musical tones of spoons clinking on stainless dishes faster than anyone!  The gals love going for walks - Roxy will occasionally break into a light jog, so be prepared to keep up with the little speed demon.   They both do well with outside potties now that they have a routine. They go out every 3-4 hours during the day and no accidents at night (approx 7-8 hours). They have a small enclosed gated area at their foster home, with fluffy beds and fleece blankets to burrow under. Roxy and Penny enjoy their naps too of course! They come and go as they please from their gated area, and sometimes Penny wants to be the adventurer and look for goodies (any kind of food item) while Roxy goes looking for a lap to curl up and take a little nap.   Roxy & Penny's other h obbies include snuffle mat searches for delectable tidbits, peanut butter licking contests, blankie hide and seek, and king of the mountain.  Penny always wins king of the mountain since her favorite spot is sitting directly under her fosters chin. Roxy has a cataract in her left eye and Penny has dry eye on her right eye.  They are very good about putting on their fleece vests to go outside.   These little ladies have a lot of personality and love to give. They have done well with the resident senior dogs, so we would recommend similarly aged dog(s) as housemates. They have had no issues with kids, especially since these ladies are “ever hopeful, under foot”.  Interested in adopting? He is very intelligent, very cuddly, very affectionate, and has a little bit of a stubborn streak!  It takes Dax a while to warm up to people but when he is comfortable he shows his LOVE. He likes to explore outside in the yard, loves to play with toys, and chew on bones. He is literally attached to you if sitting on the couch. One of his favorite places to relax is a cat scoop (see picture)! He does great with other smaller dogs and cats. He has been working on his leash training and is potty trained on a schedule. Dax needs another dog, preferably smaller, in the home to help him gain confidence and would do better in a quiet household with no children or men, and a setting where he will not be left alone all day. He tends to get very attached to one woman in a family. If you love small, cuddly, long littles, he is the perfect companion for you. If you are a Dachshund lover, he is PERFECT. Anyone would be lucky to have Dax in their lives. He is a gentle soul with so much love to give.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.INTERESTED IN MEETING ME? I'm about a year old, so I've got a perfect combination of fun puppy energy and well-behaved maturity. I've mastered potty training and I quickly learned the rules and routine of my new foster home. In fact, I don't even need to be kenneled when left alone anymore (though I don't mind it as long as I have another dog buddy in the crate with me). At night, I love sleeping in bed with my foster parents and am a great sleeper. I am learning how to go for walks and I am loving it. I came to the rescue with a best friend who has been adopted, and I'm feeling pretty lonely now. So, I'm looking for a home with another playful small dog to cuddle and play with. My foster mom says I'm so laid back - I like all people, like to be brushed, let her touch my face, toes, etc... Nothing really bugs me (except big scary dogs). If you're looking for a super smart, well-behaved, laidback dog to snuggle with, I am definitely your guy! Story
Nori is a 5 year old dachshund mix and she’s 20 lbs. She’s spayed and microchipped and up to date on all her vaccines. I also have her DNA test results which I can provide. Nori typically enjoys her own space but she will cuddle with you and ask for belly rubs when she’s comfortable. She loves going on walks and being active but doesn’t require it as she’s happy just snuggling up in bed with you and having a chew toy. Nori prefers to greet others herself rather than having someone pet her first. She can be skeptical of new people at first but she warms up very quickly within minutes. Nori can be reactive towards some dogs but not all. She’s usually fine on walks but prefers her personal space so she doesn’t typically enjoy greeting other dogs or dogs that get in her face. Nori would probably do best in a home where she’s the only pet. She’s very obedient and has gone through a lot of training and knows a lot of tricks. She’s incredibly food motivated and loves people.
