Age: Approximately 7 years Weight: 17 pounds Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Unknown/not tested Kid friendly: Unknown/not tested Potty trained:  Yes, good on a schedule Crate trained:  He is crate trained, but prefers to be loose when in the house alone. Hi, my name is Bennett! I would love to meet and play with you. While I look like a puppy, I am an adult dachshund/terrier mix. Some of my favorite things to do include exploring outside, going for walks, meeting and playing with new people and animals, holding my stuffed bunny, and cuddling, I absolutely love to cuddle. My preference is to be able to roam freely outside or in my house, but I am crate trained too. My dream is to be with you as much as possible because I do not like to be alone. While I love people, men make me nervous, so I often bark at them, but I always let them pet me. I am potty trained on a schedule, but if I get frightened, I sometimes have an accident. People tell me I am very intelligent and pick up on things very quickly, but I want you to know I like to be silly and loving. A fence is preferred as I like to explore and be free in the yard.  I cannot wait to find my forever home. I hope to meet you soon! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hello there! My name is Brielle (I also like the name snowball) I am a 1 year old Doxy/Terrier mix around 20 lbs. I am almost fully potty trained and am crate trained (I may protest a little in the beginning but then I am quiet). My foster papa says I'm so funny because I always show him my tummy and love his snuggles. I love to play with squeak toys and tug toys, I love the toys that are bigger than me! I like to chase cats so a home without them would probably be best, I do great with other dogs and would do best with another dog who is similar to me and not too dominant. I love to play but my foster momma thinks I would also do great in a home where I am the only animal. I love attention! Are you my forever family? Apply to meet me! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, my name is Coal. I am a dachshund chihuahua mix born approx. 8/11/23 and came to Minnesota from Tijuana, Mexico with my siblings. I am a pretty chill puppy and like to do all the puppy things. I love to play with toys, snuggle, chew on everything, and run around as much as allowed. I’m not a fan of going outside because it is freezing out there. My foster mom has been trying to get me to use puppy pads but I don’t quite know what she’s trying to do with those yet. I am used to being in a crate but sometimes I will bark to be let out because I just want to be where the action is. I love playing with the big dogs in my foster home. I can definitely hold my own. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Ryder is a sweet boy that we rescued about two years ago. He is perfect with people who give him his space until he trusts them. The issue is that he is very aggressive toward strainers and people that try to approach him other than our household members and a hand full of others. He will bite if he feels threatened, he has become a liability for our family due to the fact that in two years of training he still occasionally becomes aggressive out of the blue and will bite people. He is small so bites have caused minimal damage but we have children and their friends and our friends are have been bitten in some rare instances. He really is sweet and needs a companion to devote a lot of time. He is very attached to me but does not like any other men. He could be a great companion for an individual that lives alone and has a lot of time for snuggling and playing.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Say hello to Scratch! Isn't he cute?! Scratch is looking for a forever home in Minnesota where he can nap and lounge the day away. He may play a bit, but would prefer to hang-out and just observe the world. A low energy home would make him most happy. He is easy-going and low-maintenance and will make a great companion! Scratch currently lives with big and small dogs, children and adults in his Texas foster home. The young children in the home make him a bit nervous, so a home with only older children will be best. Scratch is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 12/16/2023 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Mauricio was brought into rescue from a hoarder/neglect situation. He is not used to a lot of human contact, and will bark at strangers, but not aggressively, just a warning that he's uncomfortable in the current situation. His Texan foster family said it took about a day and a half for him to realize that they were the good guys, and now he just can't get enough pets! I'm going to let you in on a little secret.. the dogs that make you work for it?? they are loyal to you for life. This little man is going to be your new best friend.. and he's not going to let you forget it. He plays well with other dogs that are around his same size, but has not been tested with large dogs or cats. He is working on the whole potty training thing. Limiting his water and having a routine of scheduled potty breaks seems to be working for him, and if kept on a consistent routine, he should be 100% potty trained in no time at all! Mauricio is kenneled at night, and does so without complaint. sleeping there through the night until his foster mom takes him on his 6:30am potty break. He is fed in his kennel as well as taking any high value treats there. If you think that you could help little Mauricio blossom into the confident pup we all know he can be, please fill out an adoption application today! Mauricio is from Texas. This handsome, sweet, playful boy is Kirby! Kirby is such a happy boy – he wags his tail so hard that his whole-body wiggles and just look at how he’s smiling in all the pictures. Kirby really loves to be with you. He loves to sit on your lap and cuddle, but his absolute favorite are belly rubs. Kirby is like the best looking guy in the bar. He plays hard to get… but once he gets to know you, he’s actually a good guy! Because of this little quirk, transitions into a new home will be harder but give this junk some time and patience and you’ll have the most handsome guy in town! Kirby is also a huge fan of toys, toys & more toys! Most of the time he’s running around with a toy or two in his mouth. He thinks it’s fun if you’ll toss toys so he can go get them. Kirby gets along great with the three other pups in the household and plays with all of them. Kirby can be bossy and want to control the play when he is with puppies and small dogs. He is great with big dogs- he enjoys playing, snuggling and following a big friend. Kirby does great on walks & is such a good boy in his crate. He would love a fenced at his forever home. Plus, it is so cute to watch Kirby do his zoomies! He is a great mix of playful and mellow. During the workday, he is content to stay in the office area keeps busy napping, playing with toys & the other pups or working on a chewy. Kirby is sure to bring so much love and happiness to his forever home, so fill out an application if you’d like to meet this wonderful boy. If you would like to meet Kirby, please visit spotslastsstop.org and fill out an application.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. My name is Mateo but my foster mom calls me shorty, probably because of my short legs. I am a basset hound but my face looks a lot like a German shepherd.  I’m very sweet and affectionate. I sleep quietly in my crate at night and I haven’t had any accidents at my foster moms house. Some nice people in Mexico found me when I was living on the streets and struggling to find food. I recently made a very long trip up to MN and now I’m hoping to find a warm home with loving people. I’m not sure how I would do in a home with cats because I haven’t met one yet. I love other friendly dogs but I’m not very good at sharing my food and treats so those need to be put away when I’m playing with other dogs. I’m not sure how I would do with kids but I bet I would love them. I love humans. Can I be your new family member? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Rafa is a basset hound born 5/3/22 from a rescue in Mexico. We call him our little short legged lab.  He has the behavior and smarts of a lab, in a short stature.  He currently resides in a home with 2 large resident dogs and a smaller foster and does well with all of them.  He tends to play best and is most interested in the dog about his stature.  When he first arrived, he wasn't quite sure how to play, but now he definitely has it down. There are also 2 younger teenagers in the house and there are no issues. There had been concerns about meeting new people when he first arrived however we have not noticed this. We have new people basically ignore him when they first arrive and let Rafa decide if he wants to greet them, which he always does.   He is pretty solid and faster than expected so any slack in his leash leads to a good pull.  However he does WONDERFULLY on walks with a harness with a chest ring when walking with the herd.  He seems to have good street smarts and will sniff out any food he might be interested in.  He seems to know what he is doing is naughty as a simple "Rafa" stops his action.  For how short his legs are, it's hard to remember that he's super long and has a long reach. Rafa is kenneled during the working hours without complaint, but he is left out in the bedroom during the night. He is about 80% potty trained with scheduled outside time and will go every time outside is offered.  He loves Bene bones, is not good with stuffed animals, and LOVES to cuddle.  He would be a great doggo in a home by himself, or with another friend to play with!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
