You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus taxWalter AKA Wishbone is a very good boy, he is house trained, has very good house manners and is respectful of the resident dog. He loves people and is a good playmate with dogs. He is very smart and picked up sit and shake right away.  Wishbone really likes to be close and cuddle with people. He can be a goofy guy when he wants to play, and he likes chew toys and plush toys. He really likes to crawl under the covers and let’s out some good snores.  Wishbone could use some more leash training, but he is a fast learner! We are still working on getting him comfortable in the kennel, but he is able to be left alone in a spare room with a baby gate and will settle quite fast. Walter may bark when left alone for a few mins, but will settle fairly quickly. Wishbone does not bark at people or dogs or when someone knocks on the door. Wishbone would love a home with another dog to play with and someone to play and cuddle with him. If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.   //

Story
Hello, my Name is Mielle (Mi-el) – it means “honey” in English (even though it is not technically spelled correctly in Spanish, I am not sure what happened there). I think I was given this name because of my honey-like colored coat that resembles the color of honey! You may ask why my name is Mielle instead of honey, well that is because I came from Tijuana, Mexico, which is where my journey started. I have had a rough short two years of life this far and have not really had a chance to feel safe until I came to Minnesota with No Dog Left Behind Rescue. My foster moms have been so kind, sweet, loving and caring, but I have a huge guard up. I think it may be fair to share my story so if you are really truly interested in adopting me, you understand it will take time and patience.  I am originally from Tijuana, Mexico. I spent the first year of my life as a stray, running the streets of Mexico. I learned how to defend myself and take care of myself without the help of any humans. After some time, I was taken into foster care. That time is a little fuzzy and I was not comfortable because I was so used to being a stray, so humans scared me. During that time, I ended up having puppies, which was back in October of just last year (2023). After I had my puppies (3 months later), I was brought to MN in January 2024. As you can imagine that is a lot for a little girl like me, who is only 2 years old. When I came to MN. I was timid, shy and unsure of what was going on. I was put into yet another foster home without anything familiar to me. There I spent about 2.5 months with my new foster mom, she was great, but it did take me a while to adjust to the new setting. I was scared, so I didn’t want to come out of my crate for a few days, but my foster mom would take me out to go potty. After about a week, I finally decided I was in a safe place and could start to relax a little more with my foster mom and walk around the yard with her on my leash. However, the foster mom had a son, and he scared me, like really scared me, something traumatic in Mexico must have happened with a man so they really scare me. When I would see foster moms’ son, I would run to my crate and get really scared and shake. Because of this, foster mom thought it would be best if I was moved into a different foster home that didn’t have males. So, I moved into yet another new foster home in April. This brings me to my current foster home. When we arrived at my new foster home, I was so scared.  I had no idea why I was being moved again since I was getting comfortable at the last one. My new foster mom set my crate down in the living room and opened the door. I did not want to come out, she allowed me time to get comfortable. It took me 4 days to finally feel comfortable to come out. During the night she would put an x-pen up around my crate with puppy pads and my food and water in with me. At night when no one was around I would come out of my crate to eat, drink, and go potty on the puppy pads. I did that for about 4 days, then after that I finally got brave and came out of my crate. Foster mom has a resident puppy who is 8 months old and likes to play but is a bit bigger than me and kind of scared me a little. Foster mom also had a little toy cup poodle puppy who I think thought I was her mom, and I enjoyed her company. After about a week I was starting to come around. But then the foster mom had her nephews over, I did not like that. When they came over to pet me, I got really scared and warned them with a growl to not come near me. I was still not feeling comfortable with men. It has been a month now since I have been here with my foster mom and resident pup, I am still adjusting and have my days. I still get scared when foster mom comes over sometimes for no reason at all. If foster mom walks near my dog bed area where I am laying, I will get up and move. I don’t mind the resident dog, he tries to play with me, but I am just not sure what to do and I want to play but then I get scared and run back to my dog bed. When I am outside in the fenced area, I feel the happiest, my tail starts to wag, and I think foster mom knows that is where I am comfortable because I look happiest outside! I do not like seeing the leash, when I see that I freeze up and shut down and take steps backwards, so if I need to be on a leash, it’s best to pick me up and bring me to my leash while holding me. I think I would do best in a home with no other dogs or maybe a smaller quieter dog, a fenced in yard where you can just let me out to run and a preferred female only home and no kids!  I know these are high demands, but I know my perfect human is out there who will love me, and we will be best friends!  I know my bio is long, but I want people to understand me and know when you bring me home, I will be scared, and it will take time and patience and if you read this far and are still interested and think you would be a perfect fit, please apply for me! I really would love a fur ever home! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $450.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 6, 2024, 11:10 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hello everyone! I'm Penny, a Red Short-haired Dachshund Mix  estimated to be around 8-12 years old, all the way from Arkansas. Background: My journey has been quite eventful, and I appreciate a bit of time and space to adjust. As an older lady, I sometimes struggle with my vision and hearing, which might make me seem a bit reserved initially. However, once I settle in, I promise you'll see my sweet and affectionate side shining through. My keen sense of smell compensates for any hearing and vision challenges I may have. Hobbies: I find joy in lounging on dog beds, but my absolute favorite spot is on the couch, nestled in the blanket my foster mom made for me. I thrive on companionship and love receiving gentle pets on my ears, face, and lower back. Did I mention that I love treats?! Potty Trained! Despite the challenges of my past, my foster parents are impressed with my potty skills. Adapting to the colder weather here in Minnesota can be tough on my paws, but with a cozy sweater, I'm a trooper. I enjoy outdoor breaks after naps and throughout the day because I stay very hydrated with my love for water. If it's an emergency and I have to go potty, I make sure to be a good girl and use my reusable puppy pad. Other Dogs: In my previous home, I had a bonded companion, and I miss them dearly.  I'm currently still adjusting to a 5-year-old Miniature Dachshund in my foster home. I appreciate his calm demeanor, but I am taking my time to warm up to him. Ideal Home: With a slower pace in my golden years, I'm seeking a home that offers comfort, tranquility, and relaxation for the rest of my days. I would appreciate an owner who will be understanding and be patient with me. Note from my Foster Parents: My original name is unknown, but they've lovingly named me Penny to signify my luck in getting a second chance at life, considering my copper-colored fur resembling a Penny. As a Dachshund, having small stairs or a ramp for furniture is recommended. Carrying me up and down a flight of stairs is advised due to occasional joint issues. The kennel really frightens me, so I would like to have the ability to free roam the house and not be in a kennel.  I'm not sure that I would do the best with young kids given I can get easily startled and unintentionally react due to my vision & hearing loss. I enjoy being able to sleep with my family at night. My foster parents have been taking turns sleeping next to me. I show my appreciation by being the best girl and will sleep through the entire night without waking you. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
Welcome Daisey to CCPAL foster program. She is an 8-year-old Dachshund/Corgi is our best guess. She has a longer body and upright ears. She is a scenting breed for sure. She is active and social and not the couch potato dog. She weighs 25 pounds. She is good with a dog smaller and a dog larger. The larger dog is a pit Bull and she does good with that more dominant dog as well. She is around children and is a great dog for a family with kiddos. She has a 5 year old and a baby in her home. This family has found they have to move into a rental house. The rental house will only allow 2 dogs. They are sad but there is no other option. Pit Bulls are tougher to rehome so she is rehoming her favorite dog. She was crying telling this story. Daisey is potty trained, good on a leash, good in a car, good with other dogs, kids and strangers. She will need a fenced yard or walked on a leash. She can catch a scent and wonder off. She has a nice sturdy body and will make a great companion for an active family or active senior. She can be an only dog or go with another dog. This dog has a lot of good years in front of her and is by no means an old acting dog. She is in good health, vaccinated, spayed and ready for her forever home. She is a shedding dog but only moderately. She is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to help get her to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is 300 and transport is 200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Online applications at www.ccpalrescue.org/ See her cute video. https://youtu.be/eMLzAJO7uxM

Story
Nori is a 5 year old dachshund mix and she’s 20 lbs. She’s spayed and microchipped and up to date on all her vaccines. I also have her DNA test results which I can provide. Nori typically enjoys her own space but she will cuddle with you and ask for belly rubs when she’s comfortable. She loves going on walks and being active but doesn’t require it as she’s happy just snuggling up in bed with you and having a chew toy. Nori prefers to greet others herself rather than having someone pet her first. She can be skeptical of new people at first but she warms up very quickly within minutes. Nori can be reactive towards some dogs but not all. She’s usually fine on walks but prefers her personal space so she doesn’t typically enjoy greeting other dogs or dogs that get in her face. Nori would probably do best in a home where she’s the only pet. She’s very obedient and has gone through a lot of training and knows a lot of tricks. She’s incredibly food motivated and loves people.
