Story
This little boy we think looks like a dachshund mix, He is approx 4 yrs and 18 lbs. He overall is a good dog. He does love love to run and play but since he does not like to share his food and can play rough, we feel he would be best as an only dog. He will follow his foster everywhere and will sit at her feet when she is sitting down, he walks well on a leash and likes going on walks and riding in the car , his tail is always wagging He takes a while to warm up to new people, but is your best friend once he does. He LOVES to eat so is very food motivated. He seems to be pretty well house trained and is very smart he learns very quickly and would love a home with someone who can take him on walks . He did have heartworms when we rescued him and has been treated with the injections per the American heartworm Society , we usually find the dogs test clear in approx 4- 6 months. He has been started on monthly heartguard and nexguard and will need to stay on them for life (as should all dogs) He has a condition that is sometimes found in tri-color dogs and prevents the black hair from growing , it’s usually a genetic condition and means that the black portions of his coat are smooth - it is called black hair follicular dysplasia - He doesn’t need meds or any vets care it’s just the way he is OUR RESCUE POLICY - It is our rescue policy for all our dogs that we require a home with no children under the age of 12, and experienced dog owners only. WE REQUIRE VET RECORDS ON YOUR CURRENT OR PAST DOG FOR OUR REVIEW. RECORDS MUST SHOW THE POTENTIAL ADOPTER AS THE OWNER The total adoption fee of $600 ( and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, distemper and canine influenza, and microchip. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. We also provide a free wellness visit to the South Wilton Vet group if convenient for you. Some of our dogs are still in Texas in foster care. Our application is online at https://www.houstonshaggydogrescue.org/apply/

Story
Ravioli is a super cute and super friendly "low rider" we recently rescued from a shelter in Texas. He is believed to be about 2-3 years old and he weighs 25 lbs.  Ravioli is a VERY high energy little guy who loves to go, go, go.  Seriously, he doesn’t sit still! He would be great for an active family or one with older kids that can run and play with him. Although, he might wear the kids out before they wear him out! For an elderly or less active family that wants a lap dog - he is not the one for you! Ravioli did well with the other dogs in his Texas foster home, but when he first met them or when they approached him, he did initially growl at them. His Texas foster home also had cats, he did like to chase them but would take direction from his foster mom when she told him to stop. Ravioli is now in foster in NJ with another dog and doing well. This must be a proper match because not all dogs will appreciate his constant fire ball energy! Ravioli is doing great with house training and has not had an accident in his crate or in his foster home. He arrived to us with some noncontagious skin issues and is seeing our vet to treat this condition and it is already improving. Ravioli is an adorable, fun and super happy little guy!  If you are interested in meeting Ravioli, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for him by name, RAVIOLI TX!December 8, 2023, 12:17 pm

Story
Meet Lindt (as in the chocolate). She is as sweet as her name suggests.  When you look at that adorable little face and those big ears, you just melt.  Lindt (affectionately called Lindy) was found as a stray and turned into a Texas Animal Shelter by a good Samaritan to keep her safe and off of the streets. She was quickly spotted by a Northstar Pet Rescue volunteer and pulled from the shelter after her stray hold was up. Weighing around 20 lbs, we believe Lindt is a standard Dachshund/Chihuahua mix around 2 1/2 years old. Try to imagine how scary it was for little Lindt to be wandering the streets trying to survive; not knowing who to trust.  Lindt needs someone who is going to have patience and understanding and love her for who she is, which is a loving, playful little sweetheart who will greet you with a wagging tail when you come home, snuggle under a blanket with you, play fetch and give kisses, but also has a scared side that may guard her food, treats and toys. Her reactive triggers seem to be if she feels scared or over “high value“ items and she may snap. Although she gets along with some dogs, we feel she would do best to be the only dog in her home. Lindt does live with another dog with her NJ foster family, and they play and get along, however Lindt sometimes will let him know who the boss is.  If crated around other dogs she will bark if they go near her crate.  Lindt is house broken, and crate trained.  She loves to be near her person, she is a total cuddle bug. When you are sitting down, she will jump up to lay next to you or on you. She will use her nose to nudge your hand or arm to get some attention. She loves belly rubs.   Lindt would do best in a family that has older children who would understand her needs. Lindt is working on commands.  She does need additional leash training but she is a quick learner. Lindt was fine with the cats in her Texas foster home but has not lived with cats in New Jersey. Lindt can be reactive when handled sometimes, i.e., putting a coat on her, wrestling with a harness and she does not care for the Vet’s poking and prodding and will need to be muzzled.  Overall, despite her quirks, she is a funny girl that will keep you laughing! If you want to give the precious little girl her forever home and all the love and affection she deserves, apply to adopt Lindt at www.northstarpets.org and ask for LINDT TX!December 8, 2023, 12:17 pm
