Story
Meet Konan! Konan is approximately 4 1/2 years old and is a Husky mix. Unfortunately, Konan was removed from a home after being kept in unlivable conditions and not able to be outside for activity. Because of this, we're hoping to find him a family who can show him just how wonderful life can be! He was kept in a crate that was far too small for him, forcing him to live lying down or stand crouched over. He had parasites and G.I. bacteria, so he was treated immediately upon coming to us so that he could start to feel better. None of this mistreatment or neglect has stopped Konan from LOVING people. He's an absolute sweetheart who loves everyone he meets. One of his favorite things is belly rubs & he's very affectionate. Konan is great at keeping his kennel clean, so we think he'll pick up on the new potty training schedule with consistency and patience. He's playful and will entertain himself with a tennis ball and pile of snow with no complaints. He loves toys, interacting with people, and should do well around big dogs given a proper introduction & supervision (he may prefer female dogs, but that is not necessarily set in stone). He is not recommended to live with cats or small dogs due to his prey drive. Konan has a nice moderate energy level, meaning he'd be ideal for someone who wants to be outside to exercise every day, but on a nice day he'd likely love to hang outside in the backyard or snuggle with you on the couch. As most folks with a history of Husky ownership know, it's important that Konan has safe containment anytime he's outside. This breed is famous for being adventurous and clever, so a leash, tie-out or fence is best to keep him safe. One thing to note: Konan has a severe over-bite. While it's one of the cutest things you'll ever see, it was causing his bottom canine teeth to make contact & puncture the roof of his mouth. Our vet was able to provide him with the surgery to repair this, which was removing his bottom canines. He can now live without the pain & potential effects of this condition, while still maintaining his adorable overbite.Konan has been through so much in his life so far, and we cannot wait to find him someone who loves how goofy and loving this breed can be. If you'd like to meet Konan, we are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved: https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.html Konan is neutered & fully vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200

Story
Meet Lulu! Lulu is approximately 1-2 years old and appears to be a possible Chihuahua/Boston Terrier type mix. We can't know for sure without a DNA test, but she is 12 lbs of pure sweetness! Speaking of her sweetness, it's mostly with people. Unfortunately she was surrendered because she was not OK with the company of the other dog in the home. It could be because she also had one of her puppies living with her, but we also think she could be selective and protective, so her ideal home might be one where she's the only K9 princess. She does, however, like kitty friends just fine! Lulu is mostly potty trained, but may still have occasional accidents while she adjusts to the new routine, so we recommend utilizing a crate while she goes through that process and gets used to the new schedule. She should be safely secured behind a fence or on a leash any time she's outside, at least until she learns recall with her new owners. Lulu only lived with her most recent owner for about 4 months, and before that was with a breeder in NY. We will be learning more about her as we get to know her, but her recent owner informed us that she's active, she loves to sleep in bed with you, and she's a silly, comical girl! She is going to make someone the perfect little princess, as long as they are OK with (and responsibly manage) her desire to be the warrior of the neighborhood. This little peanut was immediately sweet with us, and although she's a little bit scared in the shelter environment, we think she'll settle in quickly once she is adopted. If you're interested in meeting her, we are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved: https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.htmlLulu will be fully vaccinated and spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $240.

Story
Meet Brewer! Brewer is an almost 2 year old male Doberman Pinscher who is looking for a new start. Brewer's family, who had him since he was a puppy, surrendered him because they did not have time to give him the life he deserves. His family told us that he's great with kids, crate trained, and is very affectionate and loves attention. Brewer, like most Dobermans, has a shy/timid side to him and may have 'stranger danger' especially in new environments. (anyone who is already familiar with Dobies already knows how big of babies they can be!) He's spooked with thunderstorms & fireworks, and is just a big ol' sensitive boy. it'll be important that his new family take things slowly with him while he adjusts to all of the new surroundings, sounds, smells & routine. Brewer should do well around other respectful pets as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised, but he may prefer to eat in his own space. He will benefit from someone who can take him on daily walks as he came to us a bit overweight and needs to shed some pounds - luckily with the upcoming nicer weather, he will be so happy to join you! This boy is so sweet and just needs a little extra time to settle in, and a little extra time for snuggles with his new family - cause that's his favorite!!! Story
Smoke is in a foster facility and can be viewed by appointment once an adoption application has been approved. Meet Smoke! Smoke is approximately 2 years old and is an American Staffordshire Terrier type mix. Unfortunately, Smoke came from a home where he witnessed & experienced abuse, so upon his arrival he was understandably overwhelmed & confused. He had a hard time trusting people and had clearly been traumatized. Because of that, we took things slow and let him come around on his own time. Smoke has been making wonderful strides and showing loads of improvements! He's becoming happier, sillier, and more comfortable around everyone he hangs out with. Because of the level of trauma he experienced, however, we decided to place him into foster care with some dedicated trainers who can help Smoke to overcome his fears and learn to trust humans again. He will be in their care until the right family comes along. While at this facility, Smoke has even joined in on Doggy Daycare and absolutely loves interacting with other dogs! This sweet boy has overcome so much trauma and we're so proud to see how well he's doing. His trainers say he's goofy, loving, happy and loving the social life! We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved. https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.html Smoke is now neutered and current on vaccines. His adoption fee is $200.

Story
COURTESY POST: (this dog is not currently at our shelter - we are not aware of any veterinary history) Cooper is a rottweiler/boxer mix. He was born on 4-9-25. Cooper is great with kids, though he loves to jump on them. He is great with other dogs and he loves to play. Cooper is ok with cats (he does chase after them sometimes). He is a great dog! Cooper has never been on a leash for walking or for going out to go potty so a fenced in yard would be great for him. Contact info: Misty 608-487-7555

Story
Meet Jake! Jake is a 7 year old male who recently had quite a change in his world, and his original family is hoping to find him a loving home. One of Jake's owners passed away not long ago, and the other member of the family works long hours and leaves Jake alone for long periods of time. They attempted to re-home him, but unfortunately after just 5 days, the family they trusted to take care of him ended up dumping him. They took him to a stranger's driveway, left him there with food, and took off in the middle of the night leaving him scared and confused. Luckily, he remained safe until he was brought to our shelter. His original family was devastated to find out that Jake was betrayed in this manner, and asked us to help them in finding him a new family who would never even consider something like this. Here is what his family said: DOB 7/4/2018 Jake is happy typical high energy 7 year old intact male Chocolate lab. He has been an outdoors dog all his life therefore he is not house trained. He walks nicely on a leash and knows basic sit and stay commands. He loves to dig and chew things. He is generally a quiet dog but will bark if a vehicle pulls up. Has been good with other dogs and cats that he's been around. If you think you would like to meet Jake and make him a member of your family, please reach out to us!
