Story
Meet Toby! Toby is approximately 1 1/2 years old and is a Terrier mix. He was surrendered by his family because they did not have time for him. Unfortunately, Toby had a rough start during his first few days in the shelter environment. From what we understand, he didn't spend much time away from his family, whom he was very attached to, so this was likely a traumatizing experience for him right off the bat. We were told he hadn't been leashed before, so that can sometimes add to their fear response. Because of how hard it was for him to adjust, we took our time with him and simply let him come around when he was ready. He's such a sweet little guy and we didn't want to make him feel rushed. Toby is still nervous in the shelter environment, but getting more settled a little every day. We have a few employees whom he absolutely adores and will cuddle right into their laps! He also loves to play fetch! We were told he absolutely loves other dogs, but in this setting he's more stressed with their presence, so we're hoping to get him into a foster home with other dogs to see if he can adjust better that way. Fear reactions in dogs are common and need to be met with patience and understanding, so even though he might blossom as soon as he gets out of the shelter, we are hoping to find him a family who is OK with it if it doesn't happen quickly. He likes to have his space to retreat to, so we think a kennel will benefit him in his new environment. He does well in his kennel at the shelter and keeps it clean! Toby was very attached to the toddler in his previous home and we're told he absolutely loves kids. In his last home, he had lots of fun, spunky energy, so we can't wait for him to get back into that happy dog mode! Let's face it, the shelter just isn't for everyone. If you are someone who appreciates the terrier spunk, and the loyalty of a dog like Toby, we know he will be so happy once he finds a family of his own. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved. Please fill out the following app and email it back to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 Toby is neutered and now current on all vaccines and heartworm testing. His adoption fee is $240.

Story
Meet Peaches! Peaches is approximately 5 years old and is thought to be a Chihuahua/Terrier type mix. Unfortunately, Peaches was removed from unlivable conditions along with a couple of other dogs. Although she suffered neglect and mistreatment, she was immediately sweet with us and has been doing better ever since! Peaches is in a foster home with another dog, and has met older children and done well! She has also been exposed to cats and should do well in almost any home where everyone is properly introduced and supervised. She's very social. When she first entered her foster home, she did have a couple of accidents at first, but it took her just a few days to catch on to the new potty routine and now she's only pottying outside! Considering how she lived before, this is remarkable progress! She is a great mix of cuddly and loving, while also being a great little walking companion. She's got a sweet disposition and we can't wait to find her family who adores her as much as we have! If you are interested in meeting Peaches, we are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved: https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 *Please send back to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com Peaches is now spayed & fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $240.

Story
Meet Randy! Randy is approximately 2 years old and is thought to be a possible Chihuahua/Terrier type mix. (we can't know for sure without a DNA test) but this little 12 pound nugget is ready to steal your heart! Randy was found as a stray and was not claimed by his family, so we don't know what his life was like prior to being found and we're going to be learning about him as we go. This means that his new family should be open to learning about him as well! So far, Randy has been comical, sweet, confident, active and has a beautiful singing voice when he wants attention. Randy has been keeping his kennel clean, so he may already be potty trained, but his new family should expect to do a refresher course so that he can learn the new routine. He walks beautifully on leash and knows sit, but he's a super sharp little guy and would probably pick up new commands very quickly! We think Randy will do well with other pets and older/respectful children as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. While he loves to cuddle up in his dog bed, he's also active enough to join you on walking or hiking and would make a great adventure buddy! Don't underestimate these little guys - they can make some of the best travel sized explorers! Randy is such a funny, happy little guy who is ready to steal your heart and be yours forever. Story
UPDATE on 10/8/25, Lacy tested positive for heartworm. She will begin treatment, and will benefit from a foster or adoptive home who can provide her with a quiet environment during this treatment. She will need restricted activity and her family would need to coordinate with our vet for her medications and infusion dates. Meet Lacy! Lacy is approximately 6 years old and is thought to be a possible Australian Cattle Dog type mix. Lacy, along with over 80 dogs, was removed from a property in WI before coming to our facility. Unfortunately, Lacy lived in horrendous conditions and will be needing a family who understands her recent trauma and is patient with her during this transition. She is incredibly sweet, OK with being handled, and loves humans, so that's definitely a plus! What she will need help with is basically the dynamics of living as a beloved pet. This could include things like leash walking, car rides, and exploring the outside world. Lacy is obviously used to being housed around other animals, including other dogs and small animals. Because of this, we think she'd likely prefer a home with other animals as she finds comfort being around her housemates here at the shelter. So far, she is doing great in her kennel at the shelter and will likely adjust well in a new home if she has an area she can decompress and resort to if she needs some quiet time. This darling little dog has been through so much already, but she's going to blossom even more once she has a family to call her own who can give her consistency, patience and love. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved. Please fill out the following PDF Application and email to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 Lacy will be fully vaccinated & spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $200.

Story
Meet Nika! Nika is a Husky who is approximately 2 years old and is ready for a new home! Nika was found as a stray and was not claimed by her family, so unfortunately we don't know what her life was like prior to coming here and we're learning as we go. She keeps her kennel clean, so she is likely potty trained, but as always we recommend a refresher course in a new home so that she can learn the new schedule. She knows sit and likes treats, and she's incredibly social and extroverted! Nika already has a K9 play mate at the shelter and would likely love another dog at home to play with, or even to attend doggy daycare now and then to play with other dog friends! We think she'll do well with kids as long as everyone is properly introduced & supervised. We do not know if Nika has ever met a cat. As anyone who has ever owned huskies knows, Nika will need safe containment anytime she is outside. Huskies are known for their adventurous side and their love of running, so it's not a good idea to have her free roam outside. Utilizing things like fenced yards, leashes & tie outs is a good way to keep her safe from harm. She'll be a wonderful exercise companion for anyone who loves the outdoors and wants a buddy for walking, hiking and running! If you are an outdoorsy, fun, adventurous person who would enjoy the comical companionship of a Husky, Nika would love to meet you! She will be fully vaccinated & spayed prior to adoption.
