Story
Meet Scott! Scott is approximately 5-6 years old and is thought to be a possible Labrador/Weimaraner type mix. Without a DNA test, we cannot know for sure, but he is approximately 90 lbs of love! Scott was found as a stray and his family never came looking for him, so we don't know what his life was like prior to being found and will have to continue learning about him as we go. He's been friendly from day one and appears to LOVE greeting new people! He enjoys fetch, he loves his dog bed, and he's ready to settle into a home of his own. Sadly, Scott tested positive for Heartworm when we had him in for his neuter appointment. Because of his, interested families could be considered his "Foster Family" while he undergoes this life-saving treatment process (roughly 6-8 months long). During this time, Scott will need to be kept as calm as possible in a home setting. This means he won't be able to go running, swimming, hiking, or anything where his heartrate would be increased until after he's cleared of Heartworm. If you have a quiet household, we'd love to find a place for Scott to recover! Scott appears to be housetrained as he keeps his kennel clean, but we do recommend giving him a 'refresher course' so that he can learn the new potty schedule. Scott also appears know basic commands like Sit, Shake and Down, and loves to hop in the car for a ride! If you love big happy dogs like Scott, and you're OK with helping him through the process of Heartworm Treatment, he's here waiting to meet you! We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONY after an adoption application has been generally approved: https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.htmlScott is neutered & updated on vaccines. His adoption fee is $200.

Story
Meet Georgia! Georgia is approximately 3 1/2 years old and is thought to be a Hound mix.Georgia came to us as a transfer from another rescue who pulled her from an overcrowded shelter. She just recently arrived, so we're still learning about her every day.So far, Georgia is such a love! She excitedly greets new people and is very friendly and affectionate. We're told she's great with kids, strangers & other dogs, but may not be recommended to live with kitties. She is crate trained and does well in her kennel, but especially because of all of her recent changes, Georgia's new family should expect to be patient and help her learn the new potty routine.Georgia should do well in almost any loving & involved family! She'd like love a daily walk, or even a hike through the woods so she can use that hound nose to the best of its ability! She will benefit from continued training, as that will also help to strengthen her bond with you. She seems to be a girl who would love adventures, but doesn't necessarily need to 'run a marathon'.If you're someone who loves and appreciates the goofiness and quirkiness of hounds, Georgia would love to meet you! Follow the link below. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved:https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.htmlGeorgia is spayed & fully vetted. Her adoption fee is $200.

Story
Meet Lentil! Lentil is approximately 3 years old and is thought to be a Chihuahua Mix.*Lentil is in Foster Care to help him prepare for a forever home.Lentil is a recent intake from a terrible hoarding situation in a neighboring county. Unfortunately, Lentil lived with 40+ other dogs in a small space that was incredibly filthy & unhealthy. That being said, the fact that these dogs were neglected of social skills, loving human touch, and everything in the outside world is even worse. Lentil's adopters will need to understand the commitment of adopting a "Hoarding Case Dog" as they are often unsocialized to the outside world and require extra patience and love.Lentil is used to living with other dogs, so we're hoping to find him a home with another friendly dog whose lead he can follow. We are taking things one step at a time, but his family should understand that he is not yet used to walking on leash and may require extra time to learn that as well.Lentil is a very sensitive baby who has been through a lot. He likes the safety of his kennel, and will retreat in there with his stuffy toy if he needs a break from the noise. He also enjoys his dog bed in his outdoor dog run (he's been using his doggy door to go in and out).We think Lentil would do fine with cats, but we are not recommending him with small children at this time. Because smaller kids/toddlers are often involved with louder noises, quicker movements, and because they're unable to read behavioral cues and respect boundaries, Lentil would likely prefer a home with older kids or adults. This will obviously also be based on the adopter's experience with dogs like Lentil. We know that Lentil's emotional recovery may be a long road. He's been through so much trauma and change in a short amount of time...but we also know that his future can be filled with love and happiness and playfulness and wagging tails if he finds someone who doesn't mind helping him get there. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved:https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.htmlLentil is neutered, microchipped & fully vaccinated. His adoption fee is $240.

Story
Smoke is in a foster facility and can be viewed by appointment once an adoption application has been approved. Meet Smoke! Smoke is approximately 2 years old and is an American Staffordshire Terrier type mix. Unfortunately, Smoke came from a home where he witnessed & experienced abuse, so upon his arrival he was understandably overwhelmed & confused. He had a hard time trusting people and had clearly been traumatized. Because of that, we took things slow and let him come around on his own time. Smoke has been making wonderful strides and showing loads of improvements! He's becoming happier, sillier, and more comfortable around everyone he hangs out with. Because of the level of trauma he experienced, however, we decided to place him into foster care with some dedicated trainers who can help Smoke to overcome his fears and learn to trust humans again. He will be in their care until the right family comes along. While at this facility, Smoke has even joined in on Doggy Daycare and absolutely loves interacting with other dogs! This sweet boy has overcome so much trauma and we're so proud to see how well he's doing. His trainers say he's goofy, loving, happy and loving the social life! We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved. https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.html Smoke is now neutered and current on vaccines. His adoption fee is $200.

COURTESY POST - This dog is NOT in our shelter. Please see contact information for her owners below. We have owned Penny for about 18 months; but she needs training and consistency to become a productive member of society. She has confidence issues that I am confident can be addressed with training and in the right environment; my family is unable to provide that training; thus we are looking to rehome her.     Penny was born December 27th 2023 and was a rescue from an Amish farm in the wider Wisconsin Dells area; she is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed. She loves the outdoors, chasing deer and turkeys, but also enjoys being indoors and with her human pets. She finds joy in taking walks with her owners. She is great with our children.     She is very smart and has learned the basic commands of sit, stay, down (lie down) and shake. She is an outdoor/indoor dog and is house trained as well as crate trained.    My wife Meredith and I can be contacted at the phone numbers below for those interested in taking Penny to be a member of their family. Thanks for your assistance; it is greatly appreciated!Best Regards,David and Meredith Moseley608-387-1336 (David)414-303-0308 (Meredith
