Story
Meet Gigi! Gigi is approximately 10 years old and is a terrier mix. Gigi was unfortunately removed from very unhealthy living conditions. She was forced to reside in her own feces & urine, as well as had fleas and other infestations in the home. She was so scared when we first got her, but was still ok with being petted and held. She had clearly been traumatized but it didn't take long for her to warm up. Her housemate Lulu was her comfort while at the shelter, and she just needed time to know she was safe. Gigi does a great job keeping her kennel clean here at the shelter, so we think if her family utilizes a crate, it will help her learn the routine as well as giving her a safe & quiet space she can go to if she wants to rest on her own. She will enjoy a walk every day but is also quite laid back and very cuddly. She bonds very tightly to her human and will absolutely be your shadow. She's also perfectly content basking in the sun or in her dog bed for the majority of her day, so would be great for someone who works from home and likes having company. Gigi is friendly with other pets, and although smaller children may frighten her if they create loud noises or fast movements, we don't think she'll react aggressively. If the children in her home are respectful, she'll be happy to cuddle up to them! Gigi is an incredibly sweet, loving girl who has been through a lot in her life and deserves a loving, patient, clean home with people who understand her basic needs. Gigi is now spayed and current on vaccines. Her adoption fee is $240 We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved. Please fill out the below PDF and email back to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 Gigi weighs 14 lbs.

Story
Meet Sheila! Sheila is thought to be around 3 years old and is an American Eskimo. Sheila came in as a stray with Sheldon another American Eskimo. Their owners did know they were here but never showed up to redeem them. Because of this, unfortunately we don't know a lot about their past, so many things will be likely a "learn as you go" circumstance. Sheila is a very sweet, moderately-active and patient little gal. She's so incredibly friendly and adventurous, and anyone who knows American Eskimos could tell you that they're famous for their boisterous personalities! She is a bit more reserved at first with new people, but comes around quickly and enjoys companionship. Sheila keeps her kennel clean so we think she may be potty trained, but we do recommend utilizing a crate and a refresher course so that she can learn the new potty routine. She very much enjoys walks and should do well with other pets & children as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. If you are looking for a fun, active & loving puff ball to add to your family, Sheila would love to meet you! (She and Sheldon can be adopted together or separately) We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved: https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 Sheila is now spayed & fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $240

Story
Meet Obi! Obi is a Saint Bernard who was born in September of 2024. He was surrendered by his family because he does not like to share around food, and they had a small child who wasn't able to understand the boundaries he needed. He knows basic commands like sit, shake (paw) and leave it. He was mostly potty trained in his last home, but may need a refresher course as he adjusts to the new potty schedule. According to his previous family, he’s been exposed to dogs, cats and children. He does occasionally chase cats if they run but in general is very tolerant of them. He would do best in a home where he’s the only dog or would need a proper introduction to the right dog companion, and would need to be fed separately. This is mainly due to the fact that he resource guards his food, so if his owners are comfortable with managing his environment appropriately, he could do just fine. He’s moderately active. He enjoys a good zoomie around the yard followed by a bone and a nap! While he does enjoy being outside, he’s an indoorsman. He does ok on a leash but is used to having freedom in the fenced in back yard. Obi will be neutered & full vaccinated prior to adoption. His adoption fee is $200. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved: https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 *Please email this application back to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com

Story
UPDATE on 10/8/25, Lacy tested positive for heartworm. She will begin treatment, and will benefit from a foster or adoptive home who can provide her with a quiet environment during this treatment. She will need restricted activity and her family would need to coordinate with our vet for her medications and infusion dates. Meet Lacy! Lacy is approximately 6 years old and is thought to be a possible Australian Cattle Dog type mix. Lacy, along with over 80 dogs, was removed from a property in WI before coming to our facility. Unfortunately, Lacy lived in horrendous conditions and will be needing a family who understands her recent trauma and is patient with her during this transition. She is incredibly sweet, OK with being handled, and loves humans, so that's definitely a plus! What she will need help with is basically the dynamics of living as a beloved pet. This could include things like leash walking, car rides, and exploring the outside world. Lacy is obviously used to being housed around other animals, including other dogs and small animals. Because of this, we think she'd likely prefer a home with other animals as she finds comfort being around her housemates here at the shelter. So far, she is doing great in her kennel at the shelter and will likely adjust well in a new home if she has an area she can decompress and resort to if she needs some quiet time. This darling little dog has been through so much already, but she's going to blossom even more once she has a family to call her own who can give her consistency, patience and love. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved. Please fill out the following PDF Application and email to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 Lacy will be fully vaccinated & spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $200.

Story
Meet Coal! Coal was born June 6th, 2025 and is thought to be a possible Shepherd/Labrador-type mix. Coal is a very sweet boy who is ready for a loving family. He was originally pulled from an over-crowded shelter in another state via a Wisconsin rescue group. When their foster homes filled up, he made her way to our facility. Unfortunately we don't know much about his past or how he ended up in a shelter, but here's what we can tell you: Coal is very sweet and social with people! He should do well in a home with other pets and children as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. Coal is young and will be learning the ways of the world a little bit every day - it's up to his owners to help guide him through that while he grows and matures. His family should expect to be with him through all things puppy! This includes potty training, leash walking, crate training, socialization, basic obedience & manners training, chewing phases, and of course lots of fun play time and adventures outside! If you are looking to add a wonderful and silly companion into your life, Coal would love to meet you! We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved. Please fill out the following PDF Application and email to monroecountydogshelter@gmail.com https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/home/showpublisheddocument/35564 He is neutered, fully vaccinated & microchipped. Story
*Boeing is currently being fostered at a Training Facility. Interested adopters will have an appointment scheduled to meet him after an adoption application has been approved Meet Boeing! Boeing is 1-2 years old and is thought to be a Hound/Boxer type mix. We can't know for sure without a DNA test, but we do know that he's 40 ish pounds of pure bred CUTE! Boeing came to us from another WI shelter because they were full/over capacity. Before that, Boeing belonged to someone who had unfortunately dumped him on a pretty busy road. As soon as the owner was contacted and confronted about his abandonment, they halted all contact with authorities and the shelter employees were never able to learn his real name. We do wish that we could find him justice, but at the end of the day, it's most important that he's safe and now he's ready to find a family who would never even think of doing something like that to him. No dog deserves that! Boeing is the sweetest boy. He's friendly, protective, active, seems to loves car rides & knows basic commands! He is one of the smartest dogs you could ever meet. He's young, so his new family should expect to continue any training needs he may still have. He should do well with other dogs and kids as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised. We were told by the other shelter that he seems overly-interested around kitties, so he could potentially do well with the right experienced owner. Boeing has been severely let down by humans, which is hard to think about. However, all we can do now is focus on his bright & happy future! If you'd like to be a part of that journey, follow the link below! We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved: https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/departments/dog-control/online-animal-adoption-application Boeing is fully vaccinated and will be neutered prior to adoption. His adoption fee is $200.
