Story
Barclay is a good looking black pup with a sweet and calm disposition. He has a shorter coat than his siblings. Barclay was part of a litter of 4 born to a 40# sturdily built mommy (pictured with woman). He really doesn’t look like mommy or his brothers. Daddy didn’t stick around and we know nothing of his breed or size. Now here is a conundrum. The vet thought Barclay looked a bit younger than the other 2 pups that are allegedly from the same litter. Since that is not possible, either the vet is wrong or someone slipped an extra puppy into the litter. We are going with the vet is wrong, although, Barclay certainly looks different from the other two pups. A mystery. Because the family had multiple other dogs that they were struggling to care for, Barclay and 2 siblings were surrendered to PUP and mommy was surrendered to another rescue to be homed. What happened to puppy number 4, you ask? They gave him to the UPS driver. The vet aged Barclay at 12 weeks on January 12. We are guessing at breed here. He is surely part Lab and German Shepherd, but what else is a mystery. Dogs from the area who have DNA testing often have 20 or more breeds and they nearly always have some shepherd, husky, Miniature American Shepherd, cattle dog, Aussie, and even the largest pooches have a bit of Chihuahua. We estimate that Barclay will be in the upper end of mid-sized dog when full grown. But, his people should be prepared to love him if he is larger or smaller than predicted. Barclay came from a family with children, other dogs and cats. In his foster home he is a calm boy who quickly learned about stairs and the joys of indoor living. He can be the leader of his little pac but he is not dominant. He was the last of the three siblings to figure out how to go up and down steps, but he loves his outdoor play time and is more than happy to come back inside to a comfy bed. He had been living mostly outside in his previous home. We are starting work on house breaking but it is a work in progress. He has done a tiny bit of walking on a leash. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated including rabies, and de-wormed. He will need two additional puppy vaccinations at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered at 6 months. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.

Story
Wonka is sweet, playful, and ready to steal your heart! This 6-month-old, 34 lb Shepherd mix has classic goofy puppy energy and an even sweeter personality. Because Wonka didn’t have a ton of human interaction early on, he’s still building confidence—but he warms up fast and is eager to learn. He’s smart, food-motivated, and young enough to soak up training. He’s house-trained using a dog door, crates like a champ during mealtime and naps, and has quickly learned that home life is pretty great. He absolutely loves chewing on toys, wrestling with his dog friends, and then winding down with some quality snuggle time once playtime is over. He will need leash training and help growing his confidence with new skills. A secure fenced yard will be required to help him feel safe as he continues to grow and explore the world.Wonka has a great history with other dogs, so new dogs coming and going don’t phase him at all. He’s also lived with cats and does just fine, mostly minding his own business. Kids are fine too! He’s done well with children ages 6–14 and enjoys the attention and activity. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, dog-friendly, kid-friendly pup who’s equal parts playmate and cuddle buddy, Wonka is ready to be your golden ticket. If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Story
Wiki is a 6-month-old female Shepherd mix and a shy, gentle puppy. She is still learning that the world, and humans, can be safe and kind. At 25 lbs with a full-body wiggle butt, she’s impossible not to smile at!Wiki didn’t have much human contact early in life, so she’s nervous when meeting people and takes time to warm up. Once she feels safe, though, she’ll quietly ask for pets, lick your hand, or eventually LEAP into bed to snuggle up close! She truly blossoms with patience, consistency, and love. She is about 85% potty trained and uses the dog door well, though she may have occasional accidents when she feels nervous. Wiki is fully crate trained and does excellent in her kennel, it’s her safe space and where she goes when she needs comfort. She loves toys, follows her resident dog closely (especially on leash), and learns a lot by watching the other dogs around her. Wiki does great in a busy foster home with multiple dogs. With cats, she has met dog-savvy cats and was nervous, but overall fine. She takes a little longer to warm up to children, but has met kids ages 6-13.She has normal puppy energy and loves toys! Overall, she's a fairly calm dog otherwise. Wiki will require a fenced yard to help her have her safe space when learning her new home and people. With the right family, this sweet, snuggly girl is going to absolutely shine! If you are interested in Wiki, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $550. Story
Mayberry is a 6-year-old German Shepherd who loves to learn new tricks and tasks! She is a very fast learner, especially when given cheese, but she can be persuaded with almost any treat. But be prepared—she will show her appreciation through lots of kisses.Mayberry is house-trained and crate-trained, sleeping in her crate at night and when home alone. She isn't too much of a barker, and when lounging around or in the kennel, Mayberry will chew on hard bones for hours. She is cautious around strangers and takes a little bit to warm up to you. But once she gets to know you, she'll be stuck on you like glue.In her future home, Mayberry will need a a family who does not have other pets. She hasn't been around children yet, but she will need a home with dog-savvy children at least 13 years old and up who can respect her boundaries.Mayberry enjoys going for walks and getting to smell everything along the way. We're working on leash manners and she is doing well so far. She's extremely playful and loves to run around in the backyard and play fetch for as long as you can throw. Her favorite toys to play with are frisbees, squeaky toys and plush animals. Mayberry has a high prey drive so a fenced yard will be required while she's in training. She may also do well in a home without a fence but enough land where other people and pets aren't nearby. She is a very spunky girl with lots of character and would love to be given a chance with someone who has time to work with her and be patient. If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
This 6-month-old Shepherd mix has the best squishy face! At 36 lbs, Wendy is a mellow, sweet puppy who can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly and then wants nothing more than to be close to her people—especially if that means snuggling up for a nap. She’s house-trained using a dog door but may need guidance in her future home. Wendy is also crate-trained, and while she may bark for a moment when first kenneled, she settles in nicely and relaxes.Wendy does wonderfully with new dogs coming and going in a busy foster home. She’s also been tested with cats and does well, occasionally barking from a distance but overall respecting their space. Wendy met children from babies to teens and is consistently gentle and sweet with them. She has normal puppy energy, loves toys of all kinds, and is happiest when she’s near her people. A securely fenced yard will be required to help keep her safe as she continues to grow her confidence. She’s still learning the ropes with leash walking and will need a little patience and positive guidance as she builds confidence. After a start in life with limited human interaction, Wendy has blossomed into a happy, affectionate puppy who just needed time to feel safe. Wendy is the kind of pup everyone falls for—calm, loving, and ready to be someone’s very best girl!If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $550.
