Story
Terra is a very sweet, cute Husky Mix, possibly Husky-Shepherd. Her estimated date of birth is July 4, 2021; at the time of this post, she is about 1 ½ years old. She weighs about 50 lbs. Terra is typical Husky through-and-through. She is active, somewhat high-strung, and loves being outside. When she is by herself, she is overall well-behaved…given she’s a younger Husky. She can get carried away and become obnoxious when engaging with other dogs. As such, she is most likely to do best being an only dog. She is not a dog-park dog. While playful and energetic, Terra is also very affectionate. She enjoys people and does pretty well when meeting people she does not know. As is the case with all young, larger dogs, Terra would greatly benefit from obedience training which can also be a bonding experience with her new family. No doubt, Terra has the potential to evolve into the perfect pup, but is looking for that family willing to commit to her and provide her the forever home she deserves. Terra is fully vetted, up to date on all vaccinations, spayed & microchipped and on year-round heartworm prevention. To learn how you can add this cute young girl to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. BAARK is located in the Chicago area and adopt our dogs only local to the area.

Story
Meet Timber..... While Timber could be mistaken for a small wolf, he’s a Husky-Shepherd Mix. A a very smart and handsome boy!! Timber enjoys playing and running; he’d prefer to run and play with a human companion rather than another dog. He LOVES people and is good with most everyone. Timber’s estimated date of birth is July 4 2021. He’s about 60 lbs. of energy! An ideal home for Timber, and one in which he’d thrive and his family would forever enjoy his companionship is one experienced with the Husky (or a similar) breed, has the time to commit to a young large-breed energetic boy, and a willingness to set boundaries and guidelines to ensure Timber evolves into a perfect family member. Timber is a quick learner and is sure to make progress toward his behavior goals pretty quickly! Timber would love a secure, fenced yard, and possibly being an only dog so he can receive ALL the attention!! Timber is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm prevention, neutered and microchipped. If you might be interested in adding this handsome boy to your family please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895

Story
Zelda is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through her pictures to see her video content! Zelda comes to us all the way from Texas, where her foster mom spotted her on a website being given away by her owners or else she would be taken to a high volume municipal shelter. Zelda's foster mom loves huskies, and felt like she had to help so she paid for her vetting and transport up here. Zelda was very shy at first, meeting her foster family, but after a couple of weeks - she really settled in and became comfortable in the home. She gets so excited when the kids come home from their activities, she whimpers with joy. They are ages 5 and 9, and she is gentle and playful with them. Zelda is left to free roam with the other dogs when her humans are away, and she is housebroken, too. Zelda is still shy when meeting new people, and needs time and patience to make new friends. She will bark at people and try to look tough, but she really is just scared! If you take your time, and offer really good treats, she lets her guard down. Potential adopters will need to be patient and know that it may take a couple visits with Zelda in her foster home before bringing her home. Zelda needs time to feel safe, but once she does, she has proven to be a great family member. She will repay all your patience with devotion! Her foster mom writes, "Zelda is a very sweet and gentle dog that loves people affection. She loves to play with kids and our dogs but also LOVES her squeaky toys! She also loves chasing kids outside the house especially if they have her favorite toy! She likes to be close by her humans and is a very loyal to us. Zelda walks great on the leash and is always excited to go for the car rides. Zelda is a truly a special dog!" We hope you will ask about this beautiful girl today! Zelda's adoption fee is $250. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Bear is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through his pictures to see his cute videos! Bear and his four siblings were born in rural Texas and raised mostly outside on the streets, with only each other and their mom for company. Mom was a gorgeous husky who sadly became very sick, which was discovered after a good samaritan trapped mom and her pups to get them out of the elements. The vet discovered that mom had cancer, and a local rescuer reached out to us about helping her pups. We knew when we committed to taking them in that they had been through a lot and were pretty under-socialized with people. We are so proud of how far they have all come in less than two weeks! Each pup wound up in a loving foster home! Bear lives with a couple and their two dogs. Even the more particular of the dogs likes Bear, as he is not an overwhelming puppy he is rather shy and polite with other dogs! Bear will bark when greeting new people but eventually gets comfortable and settles. He recently had a two day sleepover with a couple and their three dogs. At first, he was nervous when his foster mom left but in no time he was playing with the three dogs in the yard! "He's been so easy to have a have around" writes his sleepover host! Bear would do best in a quiet area and with an adopter who understands he will need continued training and socialization to grow into a confident young man! Bear's foster mom writes, "Bear is a shy but very loving boy. He's come a long way in just a week in my home. He's become more confident and playful with my dogs. He can be cuddly but also likes his own space where he can take a nap or chew on a bone. He is a smart and sensitive puppy who is learning how to dog. Bear is searching for a forever home filled with love! Bear's adoption fee is $400. This animal is neutered and up to date on core vaccines appropriate for their age. They will need a Heartworm test between 6-7 months of age.

While they are still quite shy, we are so proud of how far they have all come in less than two weeks! Each pup wound up in a loving foster home! Freyja lives with a couple and their three dogs and a cat. Freyja is doing great with housebreaking and will for the most part alert her fosters when she has to go out. She also does well in her crate! One thing that is important to note about Freyja is that she doe sneed to go to a home with another dog. She is more comfortable with dogs than humans, and she needs that companionship to help her blossom in the critical next few months of her development. Her foster mom writes, "Meet Freyja, a bundle of joy! This shy, but energetic pup adores her canine companions and comes alive when playtime begins. Whether she's carrying sticks across the yard, engaging in spirited games of chase, or wrestling with her furry friends, Freyja knows how to have a good time. With her quick agility, she has the potential to master a backyard obstacle course with a bit of training. As a young puppy, Freyja is still learning the ropes, so a patient and loving approach will help her flourish. Freyja is the perfect match for you! Bear's adoption fee is $400. This animal is spayed and up to date on core vaccines appropriate for their age. They will need a Heartworm test between 6-7 months of age.

FAST FACTS:*1 and a Half Year Old, 34 Pounds*Sweet, Loving, Gentle, Smart*Medium Playful Energy*People Friendly *Dog Friendly*Potty Trained*Crate Trained*Recovering From Heartworm Treatment*Training RequiredBIO:Hi all, I'm Pita, another Texas gal found as a stray and brought to an overcrowded shelter. Since Texas has the highest rate of animal euthanasia in the nation, I consider myself lucky indeed to have been rescued by FTF and brought to Chicago to find my forever home. My foster mom says I'm a sweet and loving pooch whose favorite things are giving hugs and kisses and getting lots of pets. I've discovered how much fun it is to go on walks. My leash manners are improving by the day, and I'm quite the social butterfly, always interested in meeting new people and pooches of all ages and sizes. While car rides were a new experience for me, I'm getting the hang of being the backseat navigator (everyone needs one of those-right?!). As I recover from heartworm treatment, I do need to be kept calm until cleared by the vet. But I can't wait for the day when I can be more active-perhaps joining you on long hikes and/or jogs. A few final facts about me. I'm potty trained, settle quickly in my crate, and don't chew on anything that doesn't belong to me. My weak point is food possessiveness. My foster mom is working with me with that, and I'm doing better. With your continued help, and the obedience classes you'll sign us up for (required for all young FTF pups), I know I'll break that bad habit in no time. So this is what you can expect if you adopt me into your home-a loving and gentle canine companion who will give you more love and happiness than you could ever imagine. Interested? Then please complete an adoption application and schedule a meet and greet. I believe we're destined to have a wonderful life together! Love and licks, PitaIf you'd like to adopt this dog, please get started by filling out a complete application (incomplete submissions cannot be sent.) Please note that while we take time to learn as much as we can about each dog in our care as possible, our bios are written from current observations. Though we do our best to share as much information as possible about each dog we care for, we are unable to make any guarantees on the future health or temperament of your adopted dog. Most dogs in our care come with unknown pre-rescue history, and information pertaining to breed and age are often educated guesses.

Story
Shady is a gorgeous Alaskan Malamute, estimated to be 2-3 years old, weighing just 45 lbs (she is currently a bit underweight). Although young, Shady is calm, mild-mannered and attentive to commands. She’s very good with other dogs and loves people too. Shady walks nicely on a leash. She enjoys hanging out with her canine friends in the secure fully-fenced yard at her foster home. An ideal family for Shady is one with experience with the Alaskan Malamute breed and a full awareness of their temperament, as well as their care; regular grooming is a notable part of their care. And of course a solid vet history for past dogs is required. Shady is fully vetted, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on year-round heartworm prevention, spayed and microchipped. If you are interested in meeting Shady and possibly adding her to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895 to obtain an adoption application.
