Story
Some dogs are able to recover from neglect or abuse faster than others…..if only they could tell us about those early years of their life. Cody is a 3.5 yr old. 13# male Shih Tzu/maltese former breeder dog that is still in the process of his recovery, and is hoping someone with patience and previous dog experience is able to take him and continue working with him. Another small, playful dog and a secure fenced yard are also requirements to help him be successful. Cody would not be suited to a family with children of any age because of his fears of new people, loud noises, and fast movements. He has been in his foster home for quite a while – he trusts his foster mom, and is relaxed and seeks attention from her, but transitioning into a new home could be like starting all over again. Let me tell you more about him. His foster mom is retired, and home with him most of the time. Cody prefers to approach her for cuddle time when she is sitting or laying down, instead of towering over him. He comes to her when she calls him inside the house, but doesn’t have recall when he is out in the yard, so he is either contained in a kennel area when out, or drags a long leash around in his fenced area so you can use that instead of grabbing at him when he’s out. If someone scares or forces him, or raises their voice, it takes quite a while for him to forgive you. He tolerates meeting new people, but is more fearful of men and might try to hide from them. His foster home has a doggie door that he has learned to use, but his new home might not; Cody is willing to go out into the cold for a short time, so you will need to establish a schedule that works for him, and have a potty pad down for emergencies. His meals are dry food soaked in water for 5 minutes – he can be reluctant to eat, and acts like he is watching for new people to approach. Cody is most comfortable around the resident dogs, and loves to run and play with them. The other dog/dogs in the home should be tolerant, playful, be good pack leaders and “show him the ropes”. Cody rides OK in the car, in a crate. In warmer weather, he has been taken on short walks – doesn’t understand the purpose of a walk when there is a perfectly wonderful fenced yard to run around in. Cody has a loud bark, so best suited to single-family home instead of a building that shares a wall with another family. Cody is neutered, and current on vaccinations. The heartworm test and tick profile are all negative. He requires grooming about every 3 months. If you have questions, or would like to adopt Cody, call 651-771-5662. His adoption fee is $300 .

Story
Winnie is a 4-year-old, 10 lb Poodle mix who is looking for a patient, loving home where he can feel safe and supported. He’s a shy little guy at first, but once he gets to know you, he becomes incredibly loving and wants to be near his people as much as possible. In fact, he’s happiest when he plays fetch with his favorite fox toy and happily curls up close with his foster family at the end of a long day.He absolutely lights up when he plays with the small dog in his foster home and clearly gains confidence from having a canine companion around. Because of that, Winnie will require another resident dog in his future home. He does best with smaller dogs and can be afraid of dogs over about 25 pounds. His history with cats is unknown. Winnie would do best in a quieter home with older, respectful kids — dog-savvy children over 13 who understand how to move slowly and give a shy dog space. He is still working on house training and has not yet been introduced to walking on a leash. He is not crate-trained due to separation anxiety. He has a surprisingly big bark for such a small dog and can be vocal when left alone, so he will require a home without shared walls (no apartments/townhomes).Winnie would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time — someone who works from home, a retired household, or a home where people come and go throughout the day. With the right environment — a calm home, a confident dog friend, and patient humans who will let him move at his own pace — Winnie will blossom into your new best friend! If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Story
Buttercup and her sister, Bubbles were surrendered to a kill shelter because their owners just had too many and couldn’t find homes on their own. Their mom is a long-haired Chihuahua and their daddy is a Shih Tzu and they were born on February 2nd last year so they are now a year old. Buttercup has been spayed, is up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. She’s also microchipped. She weighs about 6 pounds and is full grown now. She is great at the Vet and The Groomer and loves riding in the car. She needs a little practice on the leash and she’s making great progress on house training. Buttercup is a little shy at first, and she definitely tries to boss her sister around, but they really love each other! She and Buttercup are very bonded and we would very much like to get them a home together. They are so funny together! They play and run zoomies around the house. They would do well with older children and we have not had them around cats but we feel like they would be fine with proper introduction. If you would like to give this super affectionate love bug along with her sister, their forever home, please email omlc7@hotmail.com or dogs4mylife@gmail.com. If you do not see a response, please check your spam folder.

Story
If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please complete  an Adoption Request Form. This is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about our adoption process, please visit our Adoption Process page on our website at www.rescuecrew.org. Fancy is an approximately 3 year old Shih Tzu mix who came to us as a stray through a local impound. Fancy shines being around her people and being included in what ever you're doing. Be it active or hanging out on the sofa. She does well with all genders. She's even happier if there is another dog that would like to wrestle with her from time to time. Fancy could thrive in a variety of settings from a single family home, to a home with shared walls (townhome or apartment), to a mobile home! Her barking is appropriate and she redirects well. She is mostly potty trained to both the outdoors and also potty pads. As her foster has multiple dogs it's hard to give a solid yes. When humans are home, she goes out every two hours. Accidents should be expected when she first goes home, while she learns her new routine with you. As a Shih Tzu mix (flatter face), she can over heat or become breathless easier than other dogs. While she doesn't like it, she will take a time out with you to return to her fantastic baseline. Please be aware that in the heat of summer she may need air conditioning to keep her in good health. Also as a Shih Tzu mix she will need regular grooming so please include that cost into your budget. The last thing Fancy needs to work on is her recall. Fancy lives in the moment and if the moment happens that you don't have a firm grip on the leash, off she goes and it can take multiple people to corral her back. She just didn't have the training as a younger pup and this may be a clue as to how she ended up stray. She is more than worth putting the training time in. All who meet her, love her! So whether you are looking for a brunch, book club, adventure buddy or a buddy for your pack, Ms Fancy may be for you. Let's meet! Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption.   The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Request Form prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at www.RescueCrew.org. You can also access the necessary online forms here as well.  ##2687315##

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Peanut is an 11 month old, female Shih Tzu–Bichon mix with the sweetest big black eyes and a personality that’s impossible not to love. She’s the perfect mix of spunky and snuggly, always ready for playtime, but just as happy soaking up attention from her people. She has a soft fluffy cream colored coat. This adorable girl thrives on companionship. She absolutely loves people and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Peanut’s playful side shines when she’s chasing around her favorite squeaky toys or bouncing around with her small dog friends. She’s currently learning how to walk on a leash and is really starting to enjoy her daily walk - especially all the sights and smells that come with them! Peanut already knows a few basic commands like “sit,” and she’s eager to keep learning (especially if treats are involved). She is almost potty trained and does very well when kept on a consistent routine, but she needs continuity, and her new family must continue with a consistent, frequent schedule to help cement her training. One thing to know about Peanut is that she cannot be in a kennel. She needs to have the freedom to relax and roam at home, but the good news is that she’s earned that trust. She doesn’t chew or get into things, and she is relaxed and well-behaved when left alone in the house. Peanut is truly a loving, joyful little companion who will bring warmth, fun, and plenty of cuddles into your life. If you’re looking for a loyal pup with a playful spirit and a big heart, Peanut may be for you. These are the requirements for Peanut’s new family: 1. Because Peanut is less than a year old and Shih Tzus can live to be 16+ years, applications will be accepted only from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the activity, care and support that Peanut will need for the rest of her life. 2. Be home most of the day. Peanut will require continued potty training, which requires frequent potty breaks outdoors. This requires patience, understanding and commitment to helping her become trained. Also, she thrives on the companionship of someone who will be with her almost all day. 3. Applications will be considered by families who have children over the age of ten who have experience in gently and appropriately interacting with small dogs. 4. Peanut would enjoy another in the home, of similar energy and interaction, otherwise she would be fine as an only dog if given play time, stimulation, and exercise to meet the needs of a young dog. 5. Peanut cannot be kenneled at any time, day or night. It would also be wonderful if her new family would allow her to sleep with them at night. 6. Live within 30 miles of Lakeville, MN. Her foster mom would like her adopters to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota reunion held each year in September. Peanut is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93 sales tax for a total of $$566.93. To meet Peanut, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.
