Story
In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at
http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and
timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If,
after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail
and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be
made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to
consider the application. Thank you!
Chico is an 11 pound, 8 year old male Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix. He was given to our rescue
because his owner moved to an assisted living place where pets were not allowed. Chico is a
lovable, easygoing companion who enjoys lounging in the living room. He has a calm
demeanor, is gentle with children, and gets along well with both dogs and cats. He is fully
house-trained and loves being close to his humans, following them from room to room with quiet
devotion. He loves to explore the backyard and looks forward to long daily walks.
Chico is a friendly little guy and likes to greet people and other dogs while out on walks. But
what he loves most is joining his foster dog sibling outside to chase the resident rabbits and
squirrels around the yard. A fenced yard for him would be wonderful because he really loves the
freedom of being able to explore outdoors. His foster parents use a whistle to call him back to
the door, and he responds to this well.
Chico would be perfect for someone looking for a loyal companion or a mellow family pet. He’d
thrive in a quieter home with lots of affection and a soft bed to call his own. A retired person or
couple would be an especially great match for his low-key lifestyle. We are working with Chico
to address a mild case of separation anxiety. He enjoys riding in the car and it would be great if
his new family will include him in their daily activities, wherever they go. He is okay with another
small dog in the home who has similar energy and age. He sleeps in his bed in the bedroom at
night, although he would probably love sleeping in bed with his new family.
These are the requirements for Chico’s new home:
1. Someone who is home most of the day and will include Chico with them throughout the
day.
2. An adults only home or a home with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated
that they know how to engage in a gentle, respectful way with small dogs.
3. A home with another small dog in the home, or in a home as an only dog.
4. A fenced yard would be great, because Chico loves exploring freely. If a fenced yard is
not available, the family must be able to take him on a long walk every day – at least
over one mile, and provide additional play time for him.
5. Never use a retractable leash – doing so will violate the adoption contract.
6. Live within 30 miles of Inver Grove Heights, MN.
7. Hopefully attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue annual reunion held in September of each
year.
Chico is neutered, has had a dental, is current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm
and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total fee of
$348.88.
To meet Chico, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first
paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu
Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every
month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.
