Story
Meet Oscar, our big 80-pound Husky with an even bigger personality. At 4–5 years old, Oscar is everything Husky fans adore: active, fun, social, a little dramatic in the best way, and incredibly lovable. He’s a true “more to love” kind of dog who greets everyone with friendly enthusiasm. Huskies are unique dogs who shine with the right person, and Oscar is no different. He’ll thrive with someone Husky-savvy who understands their energy, smarts, and need for daily activity. Give him structure and adventure, and he’ll give you companionship, laughter, and plenty of affection. If you’re ready for a big, friendly, fun-loving partner, Oscar is waiting to meet you. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. Story
Aurora, our 4 year old Husky, is as beautiful as the northern lights she is named for! She's full of energy and loves to play, especially when she gets the zoomies! Like most huskies, she is an independent girl and can be a little aloof at first- once she warms up to you her affectionate side will start to shine. Because she can a bit shy at first with strangers, we are recommending an adult only home with some dog experience. She would be a perfect match for an active person seeking an intelligent and spirited dog to go on adventures with- hiking buddy, anyone? If you're looking for a striking looking dog who will reward your love and patience with companionship and adventure, Aurora might be the one for you! Give us a call at 516-869-6311 or email us at animalshelter@northhempsteadny.gov to learn more. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. Story
***Experienced & Husky knowledgeable adopters preferred.*** Meet adoptable BIG BOY! A 5 year old, good natured, full breed Husky we named “Big Boy” was tied to a post in Queens. The local Police Precinct took him in and called the AAVC and we took this gentle giant. He was so traumatized that it took him a month to get into a new routine. Some idiot probably bought this beauty as a puppy because he was so “cute,” and after a few years, lost his or her interest in having a best friend in life any longer. We did all the medicals on Big Boy and he got along with our dogs and cats, so now he can move on to his very own forever family. Like all animals adopted from the ANIMAL ADOPTION VETERINARY CENTER, Big Boy comes with ONE YEAR TOTALLY FREE VETERINARY CARE for any illness, if one occurs in the first year, and FREE LIFETIME ANNUAL EXAMS at the LOW COST VET MOBILE! Call (718) 544-PETS (7387) to set up a Meet 'N Greet with Big Boy! Visit www.AAVCQueens.org for more adoption details!

Story
Hi I am pained to put my angel Aria and Khaleesi up for adoption because of the wonderful dogs that they are. They are mother daughter (Aria is the bigger one) and her mom Khaleesi. I would love if they can stay together as they have kept each other company for most of their lives. They are amazing with kids and super affectionate. They are weary with other animals so an animal free household would be ideal. They love running for hours and would thrive if they were in nature( unfortunately I have been irresponsible and got these beautiful creatures without thinking of their natural habitat and they don’t deserve to be living in a small apartment in New York)they are natural explorers and would need a space to roam free but also contained. They love cheese and that 80% gets them back..but sometimes can be stubborn if off leash. They are my loves but I need to be fair to them and find them a place close to nature where they can live happy lives. Please be kind with them they are so special

Story
My Boroughbreaker writes: Snowboard is an interesting girl. From her smooth coat down to her ice cold eyes, she is definitely a looker. She most definitely turns alot of heads when she's on a walk. In the beginning, she's a bit pulley on the leash, very energetic but that's because she is excited to just even be out. Took her to a nearby pet store & she grabbed a squeaky toy & ofcourse picked out her own treats. We came to a playground that just so happened to be empty & fenced with 1 entrance/exit & I let her roam freely! Huskies are known to want freedom to just run around & let off so much energy & Snowboard did just that! She was as free as the wind. She's very polite when taking a treat just as much as she is motivated to get one when asking her to do basic commands. On the way back, we encountered some pups & she was reactive, but if you continue to walk with her she will follow. Nonreactive to people walking by unless they want to pet her, she becomes the sweetest! Also, her leash manners become soft & she doesn't pull at all. If you're looking to win her over, give her some scratches near the tail & belly rubs, she will melt to the floor & you'll see just how vulnerable she is!What my friends at ACC say about me:I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me.I need a home without cats or small animals. Not only do I pull at heart strings, but I also pull on leash! I will need someone to help me with my leash manners.I will need appropriate toys and positive outlets for my energy.I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles!I can go home today! It could be with you! This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.Bellarina is on the at risk list for medical concerns. Bellarina came in through an owner surrender as her owners were unable to afford vet care. On arrival at the shelter, Bellarina was diagnosed with diabetes. She has started insulin injections and is eating her diabetic diet with a very good appetite. Bellarina needs more care than we can provide at the shelter. What my friends at ACC say about me:I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me.
