Story
Meet Oscar, our big 80-pound Husky with an even bigger personality. At 4–5 years old, Oscar is everything Husky fans adore: active, fun, social, a little dramatic in the best way, and incredibly lovable. He’s a true “more to love” kind of dog who greets everyone with friendly enthusiasm. Huskies are unique dogs who shine with the right person, and Oscar is no different. He’ll thrive with someone Husky-savvy who understands their energy, smarts, and need for daily activity. Give him structure and adventure, and he’ll give you companionship, laughter, and plenty of affection. If you’re ready for a big, friendly, fun-loving partner, Oscar is waiting to meet you. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. Story
Meet JC, a bright-eyed 1 year old husky puppy who is ready to start his next chapter. This handsome little guy came to us as a stray, and while we may not know where he’s been, we know exactly where he’s headed, straight into someone’s heart. At just 35 pounds, JC is still filling out and could use a bit of extra love and care to help him grow into his best self. Like most puppies, everything in the world feels brand new and exciting to JC. New people, new dogs, new places, he is all in, every time. He greets life with a wagging tail and a playful bounce, always ready to make a new friend or chase after his next adventure. JC is looking for a home that will guide him as he learns, grows, and discovers what it means to be part of a family. With his fun-loving spirit and eager-to-please personality, he has all the makings of an incredible companion. All he needs now is someone to give him that fresh start he’s been waiting for. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you. Story
Aurora, our 4 year old Husky, is as beautiful as the northern lights she is named for! She's full of energy and loves to play, especially when she gets the zoomies! Like most huskies, she is an independent girl and can be a little aloof at first- once she warms up to you her affectionate side will start to shine. Because she can a bit shy at first with strangers, we are recommending an adult only home with some dog experience. She would be a perfect match for an active person seeking an intelligent and spirited dog to go on adventures with- hiking buddy, anyone? If you're looking for a striking looking dog who will reward your love and patience with companionship and adventure, Aurora might be the one for you! Give us a call at 516-869-6311 or email us at animalshelter@northhempsteadny.gov to learn more. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. Story
Blossom is an adorable girl with the best smile in town! She is one of our new arrivals. It's hard to say what her breed is but she looks like a husky/shepherd mix, but is only 26 lbs at almost a year old so she will stay on the small side. She is sweet and loves hanging out with her friend Anastasia. Be sure to complete an application on line and come to our Meet & Greet Saturday 11:30-1:30. If you are interested in this dog, please submit an application directly to our website at www.ny-petrescue.org. Only applications submitted directly to Petrescue will be considered.

Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption Application  Be sure to watch his video!  Whiskey is a 6yo male purebred Siberian Husky who is being surrendered by his owner in Memphis who can no longer keep him. Friendly, well-socialized, happy temperament, never meets a stranger! Great with other dogs. Fine with cats and living with 4 cats in his current home. Fine with kids. Medium energy level outside, quiet and well-mannered in the house.  Crate trained and housebroken. Obeys basic commands.  Obedience trained. Loves to be with his people.  Good on a leash, rides great in the car.  Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, neutered, weighs about 45 pounds.  AWESOME husky will make a wonderful companion (and jogging partner!)  for an active family who loves the breed.  Here’s a note from his owner:  Whiskey likes being near the action (Velcro boy), loves outside time and walks, chasing cats though very gentle with them, and cuddling like a stuffed animal. Has selective hearing and will not respond if he’s uninterested in something.  No problem with other dogs. No food aggression (he will eat like he’s never had food in his life). He will guard freshly bought food bag until it’s stored away, though not aggressive.  Loves children!  He’s crate trained, he likes the crate small and with solid sides. I’ll find him in it sleeping often. Only locked up when no one is in the house. I jokingly call it “prison” and he knows to go to it when asked.  I rescued Whiskey from the streets of Memphis in 2023. He was a very sick stray, riddled with worms and many ailments. Because of that I took a gamble on him and did not turn him in to the shelter, they just would’ve put him down. At that time, he wasn’t fixed, chipped, and very emaciated. No one claimed him. Now he’s as healthy as a horse and incredibly gentle and affectionate. Now almost 3 years in, he’s ready to move on. The goal was never to keep him as a pet. Admittedly, I should have begun this process a year ago. But here we are now.
