Leo is a 2-3 year old, 57 pound, husky mix.  He  is a fairly calm boy...though he will have the occasional puppy burst of energy.  Leo's will sit when you ask him to, and will gladly be your co-pilot when driving - he loves car rides and will jump right in the back seat and chill out for the trip.  He is friendly with people and dogs. Personality: friendly, affectionate, fairly calm, good in car Good with: people, and dogs.  No cats for Leo. Training: knows the command for 'sit' Estimated age: approximately 2-3 years old Weight: 57 pounds Medical: vetted, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped Location: Currently located with a foster in Texas, but if adopted, will come to the NJ area on our next monthly transport.  ​Background: Like so many dogs, Leo's story is a sad one.  Leo spent the beginning of his life with a caring and loving owner who regularly took him to the vet and kept him inside (which is not typical for dogs in the south).  Unfortunately, Leo's owner had to move into a senior residence, so he entrusted a friend to care for his beloved dog.   Long story short, that "friend" kept Leo chained up outside without food and water.  He was so skinny when he was rescued .  He was brought to a kill shelter with a 3 day deadline for euthanasia.  Luckily we were able to pulled him out in the nick of time.  Once we had him seen by a vet we discovered that he was heartworm positive.  We paid for his treatments and are happy to announce that he is now heartworm free and he is a very happy and healthy boy!  He loves meeting new people and spreading joy like only a good boy like Leo can do!   We really want to find Leo a loving, stable home.  He must have been so confused, going from the love and safety of his original owner to being tied up and ignored outside. 🐾 MEET KODIAK & YUKON — TWO BEAUTIFUL HUSKY BOYS LOOKING FOR THEIR FOREVER HOMES 🐾 Kodiak and Yukon are 2.5-year-old male Huskies, weighing approximately 50 lbs each. ❤️ And despite everything they have been through, these boys are still incredibly loving, happy and trusting. 💔 Their Story Kodiak and Yukon once had a home. They had a family, warm beds, proper food and people to love. Then their family moved — and simply left them behind. No food. No water. Just two dogs left in the Texas heat. For months, the boys remained at the property while kind neighbors provided them with food and water. But they were losing weight, losing their coats, and were covered in fleas and ticks. Eventually, animal control picked them up and they were taken to a high-kill shelter, where they were given the minimum 72-hour hold before euthanasia. Someone brought them to our attention, and thankfully, we were able to tag them and get them out the day before they were scheduled to die. 🙏❤️ They came into our care in early August and have been flourishing in their South Texas foster homes ever since. Their weight is slowly returning, their beautiful coats are growing back, and they have received the veterinary care they desperately needed. These boys are getting healthier and more handsome every day — and now they're ready for forever. 🐾 IMPORTANT: THEY ARE NOT BONDED Kodiak and Yukon do not need to be adopted together. They are both wonderful dogs who can thrive as the only dog in a home or alongside another compatible dog. ❤️ BOTH BOYS Both Kodiak and Yukon absolutely adore people. Yukon is crate trained and will howl and paw at the kennel door when he needs to go outside. He's house trained and will go to the door and paw at the floor when he needs to potty. His eyes are absolutely gorgeous. He has a slightly mischievous look that makes you think he's plotting something — but he's really just a sweet, happy boy. 😍 Yukon stands out for his intelligence, athleticism and playful personality. An Active Girl Looking for an Active Home Icelyn absolutely loves being outside. She loves walks, running, exploring, chasing things, and discovering what the world has to offer. She would make an amazing hiking partner and would love a family who will take her on adventures and explore new places with her. Icelyn is house trained. She is a very active dog, so she needs a home that can keep up with her energy and give her plenty of exercise, playtime, and enrichment. And when it comes to toys, Icelyn is not subtle! Meet Kai 🐾 Couch dog. Professional cuddler. Sleepy boy. Absolute lovebug. Kai is not your typical energetic Husky—and that’s exactly what makes him so special. At approximately 1 year old and around 45 lbs, Kai is happiest curled up on the couch beside his people, watching TV, relaxing, and soaking up as much love and affection as he can possibly get. He can be a little shy when he first meets you, but he comes out of his shell quickly. Once he does, be prepared for a loyal little shadow who wants nothing more than to be by your side. Kai LOVES affection from humans and will happily cuddle with you for days. He even loves sleeping with his people and will absolutely claim the entire bed if you let him! And his favorite sleeping position? Kai's Story Kai and his brother were surrendered by their owners to a kill shelter in South Texas simply because their owners no longer wanted them. Sadly, owner-surrendered dogs are often at especially high risk because they don't have a hold period. Kai was scheduled to be euthanized at 4:30 PM the very next day because the shelter was out of space. We saw his post at approximately 2:30 PM the day before and immediately scrambled to save him. The following day, the shelter couldn't tell us whether Kai was still alive. A volunteer jumped in the car and drove to the shelter as quickly as possible—and thankfully, Kai was still there. He was only minutes away from losing his life. Thanks to an incredible team of people who refused to let that happen, Kai is now safe and looking for the forever family he was always meant to have. ❤️ Kai is currently around 45 lbs and could benefit from putting on a little more weight. His Perfect Home Kai is looking for a medium-active family who understands that he has two speeds: let's go explore! and please let me sleep on the couch. He enjoys walks, exploring, running around the yard, and playing, but he is equally happy to spend the rest of the day relaxing beside his people. More than anything, Kai wants to be loved. We've had Dexter since pretty much birth- my brother owned his mother so we were able to have one of her pups. Recently my son has been sick for long periods of time and we found out he does in fact have dog (& cat) allergies. If we had a bigger house we would just intentionally separate the 2 but with our current living situation that is not possible. He's your typical high energy husky but he is way less vocal and loves to be around the family. He needs lots of attention and loves long walks at any time of the day.
