Story
Lady is a 3 year old spayed, microchipped Jack Russell mix. She is housebroken, good with people and most dogs. She's on a diet and exercise program and has lost some weight. Lady loves to go on car rides. She is currently in a foster home.  Volunteers For Animals periodically pulls dogs from other shelters to free up space; this helps avoid euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals. We are able to do this through the generosity of many people such as the originating shelter staff, transporters, foster volunteers and others who help with pulling fees, vet bills and finding good homes once they are here. The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the rescues animals can range from $100 to $450 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If you are interested in any of the Rescue dogs, please Contact Us. Do not call the Shelter regarding rescue animals - they have no information about these dogs. All rescue animals are in foster homes with volunteers - NOT at the Shelter - unless otherwise noted.  Here is the adoption process:   To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. All cats must leave in a carrier.   Thank you for considering a homeless animal.December 24, 2025, 7:03 am

Story
Sadie is a great dog considering when she was a puppy. When I first saw her she was about 10 weeks old and the people who had her were kicking swearing and come to find out the young children were kicking and hitting her. It took 2 weeks for to trust me enough to pet her without biting me . She does get along with the other dog we have but she growls and bites her. I have tried to curve that behavior no success. She bit at my grand baby twice . I love her but I can’t take the chance she bites her and scares or worse . She comes with a crate and would be perfect for a adult couple because she really is a dog that loves to snuggle I know she’s a dr.jeckle and Mr hide with kids and other pets thanks

Story
Indigo is approximately 2 years old and another stray that was never claimed. We are still learning about her, but she seems to love people but can be very dog selective with her submissive personality. Also at this point, we would suggest older respectable kids for Indigo. More information will be coming but give us a call or send us a text if you have any questions or if you would like to apply to make Indigo a part of your family.

Story
Rubí — Sweet, Playful, and Ready for Her Forever Home Female | ~9 Months Old | ~35 lbs Rubí is a beautiful young pup with a gentle heart and a playful spirit. She and her siblings were rescued from a field in Puerto Rico where they were found in very poor health — but thankfully, they were saved just in time, and every single one of them survived. Rubí has grown into a healthy, happy girl who loves life! At about 35 pounds, she’s a perfect medium size and still in that fun, energetic puppy stage at almost 10 months old! One of her favorite things in the world is being in the pool — she’s a total water lover! She also gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys playing, exploring, and being part of the action. Rubí has already overcome so much in her young life, and now she’s ready for a loving family to call her own. If you’re looking for a sweet, social, water-loving companion, Rubí would be a wonderful match! Our adoption fee is $400 and unless otherwise stated all dogs and puppies have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, 4DX tested(if age appropriate), Put on heartworm/flea/tick prevention, age appropriately vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked and flown from Puerto Rico. For more information on adopting please email madrescueofwny@aol.com and fill out our online application at https://form.jotform.us/70927213338153

Story
My name is “Hudson” *House trained * Crate Trained *Obedience Trained *Gets along with cats *Gets along with other dogs *Gets along with kids *No separation anxiety *Playful & Sweet *Loves to show the tricks he learned *Food motivated Hello! My name is Hudson. I was adopted by my family from Puerto Rico when I was roughly 4 months old. I am currently about 2 years old and fully grown at about 50 pounds. My owners had me DNA tested, and I am truly a “Heinz 57” mix of several breeds which is common for dogs in Puerto Rico. But, I kind of look like a little sweet shepherd dog. It was challenging to go from living in the streets to a loving home. So many changes and new things. Everyone has been so good to me. I am alittle shy of new people and things. My family tried to help me with my confidence by taking me to doggie training classes. They were so much fun, and I learned a lot of things: My name, to come when I am called, sit, lay down, shake, touch, go to my bed, go to my crate. When I do these things, I get treats! I really love treats. I love stuffed toys. You throw it, I go get it. Tug is fun too! I am pretty independent sometimes. I like to sit on the couch by you. I like to be active, go for walks, play in the yard, and run. While they love me, they have gotten overwhelmed with work and the needs of the kids so I don’t get to do the dog things that I like to do. That makes me restless. My family is always busy and in a hurry. That makes me anxious. My family knows this and have tried to help me, but feel that I deserve more than they can give for me to be the happiest and bestest boy that I can be. The perfect home would be a person or a family that has more time at home to give me the time I need every day to play, run outside, learn new things, or go for a walk . . .or 2 every day. A consistent routine would be great! I finally graduated from being crated all day, to be out and about in the house. I have not chewed on anything that I wasn’t supposed to and I have not had any potty accidents in the house. I bark when someone comes to the door but I have learned to stop barking once I see who enters the house and they acknowledge my name. I would love a quieter home without lots of new people coming and going. I especially love women, but also don't mind patient men who talk to me and tell me everything is ok! I am a really good dog and am looking for a forever family who has more time and patience to help me live my best life! * Please note: All dogs are rescues so we often do not know the actual breeds but use an educated guess to tell you what they most look like. Unless otherwise stated all dogs and puppies have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, 4DX tested(if age appropriate), Put on heartworm/flea/tick prevention, age appropriately vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked.
