Story
Lady is a 7 year old spayed, microchipped Jack Russell mix. She is housebroken, good with people and most dogs. No cats please. She's on a diet and exercise program and has lost almost 10 lbs! She is a great walker and would make a wonderful companion. Lady is currently at the Shelter Volunteers For Animals periodically pulls dogs from other shelters to free up space; this helps avoid euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals. We are able to do this through the generosity of many people such as the originating shelter staff, transporters, foster volunteers and others who help with pulling fees, vet bills and finding good homes once they are here. The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the rescues animals can range from $100 to $450 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If you are interested in any of the Rescue dogs, please Contact Us. Do not call the Shelter regarding rescue animals - they have no information about these dogs. All rescue animals are in foster homes with volunteers - NOT at the Shelter - unless otherwise noted.  Here is the adoption process:   To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $100 fee for any county animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. All cats must leave in a carrier.   Thank you for considering a homeless animal.January 17, 2026, 2:15 pm

Story
Indigo is approximately 2 years old and another stray that was never claimed. We are still learning about her, but she seems to love people but can be very dog selective with her submissive personality. Also at this point, we would suggest older respectable kids for Indigo. * After more interactions within Indigo, we believe that she needs to be the only pet in the home and also no small children. More information will be coming but give us a call or send us a text if you have any questions or if you would like to apply to make Indigo a part of your family.

Story
❤️ Drax ❤️ This handsome middle-aged doggy was another stray that was found on Podunk Rd near the Genesee County line at the beginning of January. He was never claimed and is now looking for a home of his own where he can share love with a new family. Drax loves back massages and toys...and more toys and of course treats!! Speaking of treats, he will sit and stare at you with his puppy-dog eyes and you just must then give him a treat!!! Drax is a little tentative with strangers when he first meets them, but warms up quickly with a little time. Drax is also positive for Lyme disease. He had a positive titer and he is on antibiotics for thirty days, but that does not deter him from playing, jumping, running or just being a loveable, energetic doggie. He will need follow-up blood work in the future, but that can be discussed with an adopter's vet. He is also being treated for a skin infection. If you may be interested in adding Drax to your family, here is a link to our application that you can print out, complete and email (ocadoptions@aol.com) or text (585-752-2588) back to us as a jpg. https://34700641-153071652496766543.preview.editmysite.com/uploads/3/4/7/0/34700641/int_app_new.pdf Send us a text or message if you have any questions.

Story
Walter's Story Senior Spotlight! Let us introduce you to Walter! Walter was found at Byrne Dairy in Rochester after being dumped there. He had no identification and he was not claimed after being picked up by Animal Control. One of our volunteers was made aware of Walter and asked if we could help! Walter is now being fostered at our volunteer Haley’s home and she describes him as “the whole package”! We estimate his age at 7-8 years old. He’s a perfect older gentleman! Potty trained, crate trained(mostly), does well with other dogs! (We don’t have a cat to test him with) He is a wonderful snuggle bug! He does great riding in the car and he’s got that typical “bull in a china shop” exuberance that labs and lab mixes are famous for! * Please note: All dogs are rescues so we often do not know the actual breeds but use an educated guess to tell you what they most look like. All dogs and puppies have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, 4DX tested(if age appropriate), put on heartworm/flea/tick prevention, age appropriately vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked. For more information on adopting please email madrescueofwny@aol.com and fill out our online application at https://form.jotform.us/70927213338153

Story
Meet Victor — The Hug-Loving Hurricane Survivor With a Heart of Gold Victor was born at Negril Pup Rescue in Jamaica, sharing his very first days with his brother Ringo. Life threw this boy more challenges than most dogs ever face — especially after Hurricane Beryl destroyed the rescue’s kennels in 2024. With nowhere to go, many dogs had to be kept in shared yard spaces, and Victor ended up with a few scars from dog fights that were impossible to prevent. But here’s the miracle: Victor remained completely dog-friendly through it all. His heart never hardened. Now 4.25 years old and 45 pounds, Victor is healthy, vaccinated, fixed, and finally on the path to the gentle life he deserves. Victor LOVES other dogs — especially females — and gets along beautifully with just about everyone. Because of his past, he should be tested on a case-by-case basis with adult males, and he’s not a fan of puppies (chaos is not his vibe). He’s untested with cats, but he’s certainly open to polite introductions. With humans, Victor is incredibly affectionate — he gives huge, heartfelt hugs that feel like therapy — but he can be timid around men at first. Once he realizes he’s safe, his loyalty comes out in full force. He’s also the kind of dog who knows when he needs a little quiet time; he’ll happily retreat to his crate to recharge and then re-emerge ready for more cuddles. Victor survived hurricanes, chaos, displacement, and uncertainty — and still managed to stay sweet, social, and full of love. He’s not just a survivor; he’s a shining example of resilience wrapped in fur. If you’re looking for a gentle, dog-friendly companion with a huge heart and a story that will make you root for him forever, Victor is your boy. Our adoption fee is $400 and unless otherwise stated all dogs and puppies have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, 4DX tested(if age appropriate), Put on heartworm/flea/tick prevention, age appropriately vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked. Story
Stella is a 5-month-old female sheltie mix, about 16 pounds with a big personality and a happy heart. She’s healthy, eager to learn, and gets along beautifully with kids, cats, and other dogs. Stella would make a wonderful family dog and an enthusiastic best friend. * Please note: All dogs are rescues so we often do not know the actual breeds but use an educated guess to tell you what they most look like.
