Story
🤎 Meet Brookie 🐾Brookie is approximately 1 year old and weighs about 52 lbs. Her breed is a bit of a mystery—possibly Husky, Bull or Pit Bull Terrier, Shepherd, Kelpie… or a perfect mix of all of the above. We did notice she looks very similar to tri-colored Husky/Kelpie mixes, but one thing’s for sure: she’s 100% lovable.Brookie is smart, energetic, and super sweet with a truly gentle soul. She’s dog-friendly and loves to play fetch, but she’s just as happy curling up on the couch for serious cuddle time 🥰. She truly enjoys cuddling and playing equally, making her the best of both worlds. This girl loves squeaky toys, goes wild for peanut butter, and is motivated by both toys and food, which makes training a fun and rewarding experience. She walks well on a leash, enjoys her outings, and even loves to share her toys with her people—yes, she’ll proudly bring them to you 🤎Brookie is crate trained and house trained and does wonderfully at night—quiet in her crate with no accidents. She already knows “sit” and was working on “down.” When she knows someone is home, she’s calm, relaxed, and content in her crate.During the day, Brookie can experience some separation anxiety and may vocalize because she worries she’s been left alone forever 💔. Because of this, she may do best in a home with another dog for companionship or with TV or music left on to help her feel less alone 🎶🐕Brookie was unsure about cats at first and would bark, but she showed improvement after just a few days—especially once one brave kitty came close enough for her to investigate. A slow, patient introduction would be important in a cat home. She had a couple of accidents while adjusting, but for the most part understands that potty time is outside. There is no aggression here—just a sensitive, loving girl who wants reassurance, stability, and lots of love ❤️If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will play hard, cuddle harder, share her toys, and steal your heart, Brookie might just be your girl 🤎🐾🩺 Brookie will be fully vetted before adoption, including:✔️ Vaccinated✔️ Heartworm & Lyme negative✔️ On heartworm prevention✔️ On flea & tick prevention✔️ Spayed prior to adoption✔️ Microchipped prior to adoption💲 Adoption fee: $225Brookie is looking for a family who understands that love, patience, and cuddles go a long way—and who won’t mind sharing their couch with a very devoted snuggle buddy 🤎🐾You can stop into the shelter 12- 5 pm Monday through Friday or 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday to meet who is available at that time. Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before we close to ensure we have time to do the adoption. We're open Monday through Friday 12-5 pm and Saturday 11-3 pm. Reeses Puff, male, 8 weeks🥣🐾 The Cereal Litter 🐾🥣Ten puppies. One duffle bag. One tote. And a whole lot of second chances. ❤️These sweet babies came to us hungry after not being fed for 2 days, with bellies so full of worms they were painfully round. Story
Meet Kimber 🐾🤎Kimber🐶 Female Coonhound🎂 Around 6 years old⚖️ 52 lbsKimber came to us from another shelter with her six puppies in tow — a devoted mama who did her job beautifully. 💕 Now that her years of motherhood are behind her, it’s finally her turn to be someone’s baby.Kimber is everything we love about a coonhound — soulful eyes, a curious nose, and that wonderfully special hound personality. If you know and love coonhounds, you know they aren’t just dogs… they’re characters. They’ll follow a scent like it’s their life’s mission, sing you a little hound song now and then, and love their people with their whole heart. She may be 6, but don’t let that number fool you! Kimber still has plenty of pep for:🌲 Walks and wooded trails🎾 Romping around the yard🚗 Weekend adventuresAt the same time, she’s past the wild puppy stage and perfectly content just being your loyal companion. She’s at that sweet spot in life — active enough to have fun, settled enough to truly enjoy being a pet.We know it can be a little harder for adult dogs to find homes, but we’re hopeful there’s someone out there who sees the beauty in a mature, loving girl who’s ready for her forever chapter. Kimber deserves a home that appreciates her hound heart and treats her like the cherished family member she’s meant to be. 🤎Adoption Details:💲 Adoption Fee: $150✔️ Spayed✔️ Vaccinated✔️ On heartworm & flea/tick prevention✔️ Heartworm & Lyme negative✔️ Microchipped upon adoptionIf you’ve been waiting for a loyal, soulful sidekick with just the right balance of energy and calm, Kimber might be your girl. 🐾You can stop into the shelter 12- 5 pm Monday through Friday or 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday to meet who is available at that time. Story
🎨 Meet Van Gogh 🐾Van Gogh is approximately 1 year old and weighs about 65 lbs. Based on his coat, coloring, and body shape, we’re guessing he may have some Rottweiler and Shepherd in him—possibly even Dutch Shepherd—though there could be a few other breeds in the mix too.Van Gogh walks well on a leash, will happily wear a coat outside if you’d like him to, and truly believes he’s a giant lap dog 🥰. He loves squeaky toys and is great at self-entertaining, making him a fun and easy companion. We haven’t seen Van Gogh around cats or kids yet, so we encourage families to bring their kids to meet him (but maybe leave the cats at home 😄). He is good with most dogs, quite the player. He's been great with females and neutered males, but he doesn't do well with unneutered male dogs. 🐶🐶.Van Gogh absolutely loves toys and despite being the biggest dog on the property is a staff favorite. Van Gogh seems to be house trained as he does keep his inside kennel clean and only potties outside or in his outside kennel. 🩺 Van Gogh is fully vetted, including:✔️ Neutered✔️ Microchipped✔️ Vaccinated (including Rabies)✔️ Heartworm, Erhlichia & Lyme negative✔️ Anaplasmosis positive (being treated, not contagious)✔️ On heartworm prevention✔️ Flea & tick treated💲 Adoption fee: $225If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, and slightly artistic best friend, Van Gogh may be your masterpiece 🎨❤️You can apply on our website www.highlandhumanesociety.org OR stop into the shelter 12- 5 pm Monday through Friday or 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday to meet who is available at that time.
