Story
KYRA 2 years LYRA 1 year Attributes Bonded pair Dog friendly Adult-only home Not best for apartments Housetrained Need a fenced yard Kyra and Lyra are a beautiful, young, bonded pair of small girls who are ready to find a loving home together. They came from a breeder situation and are now discovering how wonderful life in a home can be. With each passing day in their foster home, they continue to grow in confidence and show just how special they are. These two are inseparable and share a sweet, devoted bond—they truly do everything together. Kyra, about 2 years old, is the more confident of the pair. Whether it’s heading outside or settling in for bedtime, she helps show Lyra the way. Kyra is curious and gently explores her surroundings, and once she feels comfortable, she enjoys back scratches, belly rubs, treats, and even following her foster family around. She loves cozy spots—whether that’s by your feet, on the couch, or snuggled up with a dog friend. Lyra, around 1½ years old, is a thoughtful and observant girl who still requires encouragement from Kyra and other dogs. While she is reserved, she is clearly interested in connecting and has already made progress—taking treats by hand and choosing to rest near her foster mom. With time and patience, her sweet personality will continue to shine through. Both girls have made good strides since arriving in foster care. They are learning to relax, enjoy a predictable routine, and feel safe in their environment. Because of this, they would do best in a home in a quiet suburban or rural neighborhood – apartment living and the hustle and bustle of city life is not for them! They would prefer an adult-only home, but a quiet home with calm, older children might also be a viable option. Car rides are not on their list of favorite things to do, but hopefully over time they will learn that car rides can lead to fun. They love having cozy spaces to unwind and will happily play, run, and wrestle together when they think no one is watching! Their playful side really comes out with each other and with other friendly dogs. Kyra and Lyra are housetrained with only occasional accidents and do best with regular outdoor access, so a fenced yard will help them continue to succeed. They haven’t yet learned leash walking but are making progress every day in building trust and confidence. These gentle, loving girls are looking for a patient and understanding home that will continue to nurture their growth. In return, they will offer a special bond—not only with each other, but with the lucky family who gives them the chance to fully blossom into the happy, loving companions they are meant to be. SHEILA 2 – 3 years Attributes Adult-Only Home Preferred Will potty on leash Crate Trained Does not Like Car Rides Not good with Cats Dog Friendly Working on House Training Medium Energy Playful Not best for Apartments Hi Everyone, My name is Sheila. I am a stunning 15-inch blue tick beagle, and under three years old (DOB 07-26-23). I had a family that included other dogs. Unfortunately, we needed new homes because of our owners’ ages and health issues. I am a good girl – friendly with other dogs, docile, loving and well socialized. I was an outdoor dog, so I am working on potty training and adjusting to the “newness” of being inside a home. I really enjoy being in a home, and I have not destroyed anything other than some dents in the dog toys! My foster parents said my energy level is medium, but it can be medium-high as times (more on that in a bit). My previous owners trained me for trail runs, but I have officially started my retirement from those activities. Because of my trail run experience, I have a very strong hunt drive, this is where my energy level moves to medium-high. Although I am approximately 36 lbs., do not let that fool you into thinking I need a diet - I am slim, it is all muscle! My foster parents are using “clicker” training to help me break my focus on scents when I am outside. It is in-progress training, but I am improving. I will not do well in a home with cats or smaller animals such as guinea pigs. Note from the foster home: Sheila is an extremely sweet, loving and funny foster dog. She is VERY smart. She loves to “hug” us with her front legs. Her transition into a home is going much quicker than expected. She is good with our resident beagle, but her playing patterns can be a little too much for our resident - Emma is significantly smaller than Sheila. Sheila has been good at interacting with older children in the neighborhood. We do not have a fenced yard, but she potties on a leash. Any leashed activities need to be handled by adults only. She is fully crate trained. Color about fence experience was provided by previous owners – she could climb the fenced-in recreational area with or without the assistance of the surrounding trees. Sheila is still adjusting to being in a car – it upsets her stomach, but anti-nausea medication helps. She will do well in a patient home while she continues to transition into trail run retirement. We recommend an adult only home (she has an entire repertoire of loud noises that would not be conducive for an apartment or townhouse). NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
BUGSY 5 years Attributes: Dog friendly Requires another dog Housetrained Playful Snuggly Medium energy Requires a fenced yard Likes car rides Bugs' early life wasn't easy, but you'd never know it from his joyful spirit. This 3 - 5 year old, 22 pound beagle radiates sweetness. He's gentle, affectionate, and happiest when he's near his people or curled up with another dog. His house manners are excellent — he's never had an accident and uses the dog door like a pro. Bugs loves having a fenced yard where he can trot around and do a few joyful zoomies each day. Inside, he's a calm, content companion who enjoys napping near the resident beagles, watching the world go by from the front window, and playing with his beloved toys. Evening snuggles are a must in his book. He rides beautifully in the car and sleeps soundly in a dog bed next to his foster mom. Bugs isn't a big fan of the crate, but he doesn't need one — he can be trusted alone as long as chewable items are put away. Walks are still new to him, but he gains confidence when he has another dog by his side. He'd do best in a home with a friendly canine companion. Bugs recently completed heartworm treatment with no symptoms and will need a retest in October, along with lifelong monthly prevention. He also tested positive for Lyme, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis and completed a month of doxycycline without any symptoms. Bugs has loved every child he's met and would be thrilled to join an active, loving family who enjoys playtime, cuddles, and lots of love. Story
TRACKER 4 years Attributes: Dog friendly Housetrained Good on car rides Requires a fence Will potty on leash Snuggly Crate trained Playful High energy Hi there... I'm Tracker They tell me I'm about 3.5 years old, but honestly? I feel more like a puppy most days. I've got 26 pounds of pure happiness and energy packed into this body, plus some *really* long, velvety ears that are perfect for snuggling. My story started a little rough. I was found on the road after being hit by a car, and my pelvis and leg were badly injured. But some amazing humans didn't give up on me. They made sure I got a special surgery (called FHO) for my leg so I could heal and keep using my leg. I've worked really hard, and my vet says I'm going to have a great life, just with a little less flexibility and a little hopping when I run fast. I don't let that slow me down one bit! My foster mom makes sure I stretch it every day and that makes it feel better! Now for the important stuff... my personality: I am, without question, the HAPPIEST boy you will ever meet. I love people, I love dogs, I love life. I'll nuzzle you, give kisses, and make you feel like the most important person in the world. I'm a professional cuddler and even enjoy watching TV with you on the couch. I sleep all night in my crate like a champ, and I'm pretty sure I'm house trained too. I've never been much of a barker. I prefer wagging my tail and making friends. I do great with my foster home beagle sister, and I love having a dog friend. I love car rides, fuzzy toys, and things to chew (but peanut butter or cheese? Hard pass). I'm still working on my commands and leash skills, which I know are lacking, but I'm eager to learn! Now, I should mention... I take my name "Tracker" seriously. I LOVE chasing rabbits, so I've got a strong prey drive. No small pets in the home would be safe with me. And I may dart out your door if you are not watching closely! For this reason, a secure fence is a must for me to keep me close to you, or I may run off and not be able to find you again! Also, with my history I'm also scared of cars so walking on the sidewalk stresses me out and I have to back up and watch every car that goes by – but I'm working on getting less anxious. I feel like a young puppy like I mentioned so I like to chew on things that I probably shouldn't, so I'll need a crate or secure place in your home when you leave me, at least at first. Cats? I met one briefly and just sniffed it, so we're not totally sure how I'd do living with one. If you're looking for a joyful, affectionate, slightly goofy best friend who will cuddle up with you and make every day brighter... I think we might be perfect for each other. Story
GOLDIE 2 – 3 years Attributes: Crate trained Housetrained Playful Single dog home Requires a fence Fence jumper Adult home only preferred Will potty on leash Good in car Medium energy Snuggly Goldie is a 3-year-old, 35-pound Beagle mix (with a little Boxer flair!) who’s full of personality, affection, and charm. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who loves being close to her people, Goldie might just be your perfect match. This sweet girl is incredibly people-friendly and thrives on attention. She’s happiest when she’s curled up beside you, soaking in chin and belly scratches—or better yet, snuggled up in bed for a cozy night’s sleep. Goldie truly loves her humans and forms strong bonds. Goldie has a medium energy level and is a smart gal – she knows some basic commands like “come,” “sit,” and “leave it,” and she would enjoy expanding her repertoire. She’s both house-trained and crate-trained, and goes into her crate on her own to relax. Like many dogs, she may whine or bark a bit when first left alone, but she settles in with time. Goldie does have a playful, mischievous side—she can’t resist the occasional slipper or cushion if left unsupervised, and she never says no to a good game of fetch! Because of her enthusiasm and strength, Goldie would do best in a home without small children or unsteady adults, and she would prefer to be the only canine resident in the home. Goldie has been known to test fences, dig, and even dash out an open door. She would be able to jump a 3 1/2-foot fence, so a tall, secure fence or a very strong tie-out will be needed. She would do well in either a house or an apartment, but in either case, she’ll need a vigilant home committed to keeping her safe and secure. The good news? Goldie is healthy, up to date on care, and ready to find her forever family. Goldie’s ideal home: -Adults or older, dog-savvy teens, or a single adult -Secure yard and attentive supervision -Someone patient and willing to continue her training -A home ready for lots of cuddles and companionship If you’re looking for a loving, snuggly, and spirited companion, Goldie is ready to fill your home with joy (and maybe a little bit of mischief, too!). NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
Meet sweet Ygritte, a gentle soul waiting for the perfect home to bloom in. Ygritte came to us as a stray, so we don't know much about her past, but it has certainly left its mark on her; she is quite timid and is still learning to trust the world. She is looking for a calm, patient forever home where she can get the attention and care she needs to truly feel at peace. We don't recommend that she go home with young children, as she needs a peaceful and respectful environment to be her best self. With other dogs, Ygritte is a dainty lady and gets along with some dogs more than others, so we recommend any potential canine companions come to meet her prior to adoption to ensure a good fit. Looking for a sweet, quiet presence to warm your heart and home? Apply for Ygritte today! https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/PGH/8583-adopt-an-animal-in-foster
