Meet Gigi! This gorgeous gal came to Animal Friends through our Humane Investigations Team and was rescued from some unfortunate circumstances. When Gigi first got here she was very nervous which lead her being uncertain about trusting humans and going outside on walks. Gigi has since made wonderful progress and has become a staff and volunteer favorite! She can often be found going on long walks with her handlers, or cage breaks to the park to play ball, or out on a car ride around town to get some time out of her kennel and have herself a pup-cup! Gigi is a high energy, playful, bouncy girl who could live in a home with children 13 years and older. This sweet girl will require multiple meet and greets to get to know her, as she can take some time to warm up to new people and learn how to trust. We know she came from an unfortunate home life previously, so we don't blame this sweet girl for wanting to make sure that she's safe before she warms up to someone! Gigi would prefer to be the only pet in the home, as she is not a fan of canine or feline friends. Gigi is one of our Extra Loved residents. Although all our resident animals get plenty of love, many of them come from backgrounds where they may need a little extra care, extra attention, and extra patience. To help this special resident find their adoptive home, a generous donor has sponsored their adoption donation, to help them feel extra loved! Gigi is also a part of our Rosie's Rule program. Animal Friends has teamed up with Fi Smart Dog Collar to provide GPS-enabled dog collars for Animal Friends' canine residents who may be at an increased risk of becoming separated from their handler. Once outfitted with a Fi Collar, Rosie's Rule dogs will keep their collar through adoption along with a one-year subscription to the Fi App - at no cost to their new family Fill out an application; ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org All of our animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped! Meet Odyssey! This good boy is 6 years old and came to us as a transfer from a partner organization and is full of energy and joy. Odyssey is a big, happy dog who doesn't always realize his size and can get a little mouthy when excited, but he's also very sweet, soft, and eager to please. He's food-motivated, loves treats, and is already working on basic manners. He would do best with an experienced family who can give him plenty of exercise and positive reinforcement. He could potentially live with younger kids as long as they're comfortable with a strong, energetic dog. He would prefer a home with no other pets. He wants to be the king of his castle! Do you want to be his new best friend? Odyssey is a part of our SCI Fayette Training Program, which means he is currently residing off campus at the Fayette State Correctional Institution where he lives with an inmate. While there, Odyssey enjoys enrichment activities, positive reinforcement and fear-free training. Basically, he lives full time with his new best friends and learns manners to prepare him for you -- his future family! Fill out an application -> thinkingoutsidethecage.org All of our animals are altered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines before being made available for adoption. Story
Meet Smokey! This rambunctious 11month old boy is full of puppy energy! Smokey has been residing in foster while awaiting his forever home, and this is what his fosters have to say about him: "Smokey is ready for whatever the day has ahead of him - from hiking to water areas to take a dip, to playing with his canine foster brothers, to relaxing with a chew after a long day. Smokey has boundless energy! When he is not playing with his foster brothers or entertaining himself with toys, we give him other outlets to help him settle, including enrichment or engaging his mind in positive reinforcement training. Smokey is very smart and food motivated which aids in his training! We continue to work with Smokey on his basic leash and home manners. Smokey can someones be mouthy with people, and can overwhelm the dogs with too much play, so behavioral meds help him stay calm and be his best self. Smokey is crate-trained and does well while we are not home. He is also house-trained, and we have only had a few small accidents inside. Smokey would prefer a home with human friends age 13 or up. Smokey enjoys canine companionship and can live in a home with other dogs pending a successful meet and greet! Smokey is a rowdy player, and any potential new siblings of his should be able to keep up with his lively antics. He can also live with feline friends that are able to handle his high energy and don't mind being played with from time to time. Smokey would benefit from a home that will continue his positive reinforcement training, as he is still an impressionable young man!" Do you think you can open your home to Smokey? Fill out an application -> thinkingoutsidethecage.org All of our animals are altered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines before being made available for adoption. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Meet Otis! This handsome guy is a 2-year-old, 50-pound American Staffordshire Terrier mix who is neutered, fully vaccinated, and very ready for his happily-ever-after. Otis was adopted as a puppy and sadly returned to an overcrowded Houston shelter suffering from a severe skin condition. The good news? His foster has worked absolute magic, and he’s now thriving—with a shiny new coat he’s extremely proud of and excited to show off. Otis is the definition of resilient and joyful. He’s sweet, goofy, and loves people with his whole heart. If you stop petting him before he’s ready, expect a gentle paw to grab your hand as a polite (but firm) reminder to keep going. He’s very attentive to positive reinforcement and genuinely wants to make his people happy. When it comes to other dogs, Otis is a social butterfly with great manners. He loves to play, takes cues beautifully, and is respectful of dogs who prefer their personal space. He currently lives with dogs of various sizes and does great with all of them. He can be a little shy when meeting new dog friends, but he warms up quickly and would absolutely love a doggy sibling in his forever home. Otis has a wonderful balance of energy. He’s happy to zoom around and play when it’s time, but he’s equally content being a couch potato. He’d do best in a moderately active home that also appreciates a good snuggle session. He walks like a dream on leash (with a little excited pulling at the start), loves car rides, and even enjoys bath time like the polite gentleman he is. In the home, Otis is fully housebroken and potty trained. He’s crate trained and sleeps in his crate overnight; while it’s not his favorite place, he settles well especially if a Kong is involved. He’s shown no signs of separation anxiety, destruction, food aggression, or resource guarding. He is fed separately just to keep things calm and easy. Otis hasn’t been around cats, so we’re unsure how he’d do with them. He also hasn’t spent time with kids, but due to his size and enthusiasm (he does like to jump), dog-savvy older children would likely be the best fit. Overall, Otis has been a joy, and we know he’ll make a truly wonderful addition to the right family. He’s ready to give endless love, laughs, and paw-grabs to his forever people. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him? WE ARE A TX-BASED RESCUE. THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TX AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED UPON ADOPTION. Please fill out an adoption application at haydudeequine.org 🌟 Meet Blitz — The Sweetest Soul Still Waiting 🌟 Male • DOB 12/15/24 • ~55–60 lbs Blitz has been waiting for his forever home since before Christmas… and if anyone deserves to start the new year (and the next, and the next) surrounded by love, it’s this gentle boy. At about a year old and 55–60 lbs, Blitz is a soft-hearted, tender soul who just needs a little extra time to feel safe. He’s not the “life of the party” type — he’s more the “stands quietly beside you and loves you with his whole heart” type. And honestly? That kind of love hits different. Blitz can be a bit shy at first, but once he trusts you, that tail starts wagging like it’s powered by pure happiness. His loyalty runs deep. He bonds closely, loves gently, and will look at you like you hung the moon (even if all you did was hand him a cookie). 💛 Blitz’s Highlights: 🐾 Sweet, shy, and incredibly loyal 🐾 Around 55–60 lbs of gentle giant goodness 🐾 Good with other dogs — would truly thrive with a confident canine buddy 🐾 Neutered, vaccinated, and ready to go 🐾 Appreciates treats, soft voices, and slow, patient affection 🐾 Professional quiet companion Blitz came from an unwanted litter that lingered in rescue far too long. While other pups were heading home, he kept waiting. And waiting. He doesn’t understand why — he just knows he hasn’t found his person yet. He would do best in a patient home that understands shy dogs blossom in their own time. A friendly dog sibling would be a huge plus to help show him that the world isn’t such a scary place. Once he settles in, you’ll see his playful side peek out — a little bounce here, a happy tail swish there. He’s got it in him. He just needs someone to believe in him. Blitz isn’t asking for much. - A soft bed. - A kind voice. - A steady routine. - Maybe a few treats (okay, definitely a few treats). In return, you’ll get quiet loyalty, gentle companionship, and the kind of steady love that makes a house feel like home. He’s been waiting far too long. Let’s not make him wait any longer. 👉 Apply at haydudeequine.org and give Blitz the forever he’s been so patiently hoping for. 💛🐾

Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you area not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Mila is a spayed 3 year old female Pitbull/Staffie mix, currently weighing around 40lbs. She is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. Mila plays well with all dog sizes! She really enjoys playtime with the larger pups as they can keep up with her energy. She does well when meeting other dogs, but her foster notes she has a tendency to jump on her canine buddies, and some dogs may not like this. This cutie LOVES food and treats, scarfing down her own before checking to see what her foster siblings have in their bowls. She's not shown any aggression but we recommend feeding her separately just to ensure continued household harmony. Mila is smart, young and very teachable, quickly picking up on new lessons! She enjoys exploring and is super curious. Mila has not been crate trained as there is always someone home and she has access to a doggy door to come and go as she pleases. She has proven herself trustworthy to be left alone unsupervised as long as no food has been left out and the trash cans are empty. For this reason, Mila may do best in a home where someone is home more than they're away. Mila has been around her foster's young to older grandkids (1y, 10y, and preteens) and done well, not showing much interest in them. While Mila would probably be okay with kids of all ages, we generally recommend homes with children who are over the age of 10yrs, or those who are dog savvy. We do not have any history with cats. She is very people oriented and follows her Foster Mom around everywhere. She does not seem to have ever met a stranger, and gets super excited to say hello to new friends! She is affectionate and very cuddly, lying down nearby and asking for pets and kisses. Mila's ideal home would be with a moderately to very active family who has no/older kids, at least one other dog, and who wants a running partner or outdoors companion. She's still young and needs some training, but she is a very sweet girl who craves love and attention, and strives to please with lots of reassurance. If her Furever Family is patient and understanding, giving her ample time to adjust, she will be the very best girl and love you forever! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
