Mabel has had a rough life. At 5 years of age she was brought to the Humane Society of St Thomas as a stray. She had horrible mange, extremely malnourished, green discharge coming out of her eyes, heartworm positive and heavily pregnant. Mabel had to be spayed immediately, even though she was full term pregnancy because of her poor health. Mabel needed our help! Mabel is so very sweet and people and kid friendly. She is reactive to cats and is dog selective when she encounters other dogs as she was crated so much of the time in St Thomas due to her health. Since arriving at Pet Search, her skin is looking better, she has started her heartworm treatment (which is fully covered with her adoption fee) and she just wants to be held, kissed and snuggled! Mabel loves to walk and is now realizing what "play means! She is around 40 pounds, so she is very manageable in size and weight to pick up., since she lives to sit on your lap! Hannah (4/8/25) was picked up by local Animal Control as a stray..: when no one reported her as missing, she was turned over to Pet Search foster care. She is an American Staffie mix. This mid size sweetheart who weighs around 50 pounds is an affectionate girl who loves to run in the yard, chase balls, and snuggle when she is ready to settle down with her foster mom. Hannah is good with other dogs as long as they accept her high energy and playfulness. She will chase cats when they run from her, but does not hurt them. This happy girl just wants to please and is very responsive to a gentle hand and a soft voice. She is eager to learn and has shown in her foster home that she is smart and easy to train. Hannah is crate trained and housebroken; vaccinated, spayed, 4DX tested and microchipped. She will do well in a family with children. Indy's Story Who does this stuff? Now known as "Indy", this boy was discovered tied to a porch on July 4 in W.Va. He has a head wound that was stitched up by the vet who suspects that the cause was blunt force trauma. Indy is estimated to be about 2 yrs. old and is currently 63 lbs. Despite his misfortune, Indy is in a place where he will get plenty of TLC and some training so that he can join a family that will provide the care and affection that Indy, like all dogs, deserve. Strong and fit, Indy would make a good companion for active adults. As we learn more about Indy, feel free to come and meet the newest rescue.

Its not hard to see what inspired his name! Gorgeous, 1-year-old Redford is sleek, well-proportioned and has the face of an innocent puppy. Whether he is smiling or just looking for direction, that face will melt your heart. Not quite a pro walking on leash, Redford has improved from his criss-cross habit for the best sniffing opportunities and is now getting the hang of walking in tandem with volunteers. Redford was a stray brought in by the dog warden and has not been claimed, so now he is on the market and raring to go to a new home. Comfortable with all the volunteers from the minute he arrived, Redford may be too much dog for little kids and cats are an unknown. He would probably give chase to cats on the move. He is curious about the other dogs and announces himself with hefty woofs, so for anyone interested in adding Redford to a home with dogs, a meet would be arranged to make sure there is good chemistry.
