CORI Attributes Dog friendly Playful Housetrained Good in cars High energy Requires a fence Adult-only home preferred Cori is a sweet girl who will be 8 years old in May. She is adorable with her slight underbite and snaggle tooth. It is obvious that Cori had a charmed life and was very spoiled by her previous doggy-mom. Unfortunately, Cori's Mom passed away, and now she is looking for a forever home where she can be spoiled again. Cori is great in cars and fully house trained. She is a high-energy dog and loves playing with other dogs. She would love regular play time with other dogs, especially in a doggy day care situation. Cori can be anxious and would do best in a quiet home with a fenced yard and without young children. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
RUSSELL Attributes Dog friendly Playful Snuggly Medium energy Housetrained Good with children of all ages Crate trained Requires a fence Fence climber Good in cars Not best for apartments Special needs Russell is a medium energy, 30-pound, 3-year-old beagle boy ready to find his forever family. His foster family describes him as a big, squishy snuggle bug. He is a sweet, gentle soul who loves everyone he’s met and gets along well with other dogs. He especially loves babies/infants (see pictures). He loves to give kisses and snuggle with his humans. Russell is a medical marvel. When he first came to us, the doctor noticed a significant heart murmur. Further testing by a cardiologist revealed that Russell had a birth defect that was causing a severe blockage in one valve in his heart (pulmonary stenosis). The blockage caused Russell to experience lethargy and weakness. Even worse, the doctor said he was at significant risk of heart failure if the blockage wasn’t resolved. The good news is that Russell had landed with Midwest BREW, and they got him in to see some brilliant doctors at Purdue Veterinary Medicine. The incredible team at Purdue performed a balloon valvuloplasty, a procedure where a long catheter is fed through the jugular vein (the large vein of the neck) and into the right side of the heart. At the tip of the catheter is a long balloon. When inflated, the balloon stretches the blocked valve opening, reducing the blockage. Russell sailed through the surgery with flying colors. Follow-up tests revealed that the inflated balloon reduced the blockage by 52% - a very successful surgery! Russell has recovered from surgery and now has a new lease on life! He has lots of energy and seems to want to make up for lost time. He runs, plays, chases, and wrestles with the other beagles here. Russell now has a wonderful quality of life and excellent prognosis for a full life span, as long as proper follow-up care is given. Russell will need to be with a family who is committed to his follow-up care. Russell must see a cardiologist and have an echocardiogram sometime within the next 2 months as a follow-up to his surgery. Additionally, Russell will need to see a cardiologist and have an echocardiogram once per year to ensure that the valve in his heart remains unblocked. Russell also takes medicine twice per day to help reduce stress on his heart. Russell would do best in a home with a fenced yard or a family that enjoys lots of outdoor time with their dog. He especially loves to play outside. He is house-trained and will go to the door when he wants outside. Russell is a climber and will climb over baby gates. He has never climbed over our chain-link fence, but I suspect he would be able to if sufficiently motivated. If you want to be Russell’s new family, contact Midwest BREW. Story
FLORA Attributes Dog friendly Good w/cats Housetrained Medium energy Good w/kids over 4yo Potties on leash Flora is an adorable beagle/terrier mix female who just turned 8 years old on March 1st. She weighs around 23 pounds and is a warm and snuggly sweetheart with the softest fur. If you're a traveler, she will gladly be your best co-pilot at she loves car rides. She particularly enjoys having her head out the window when going slow. She quickly warmed up to our kitties despite never being around cats before, and she even likes snoozing with them on the couch. Flora is very cautious around large dogs as she was attacked in the past. Needless to say, a home with no large doggy friends is a must. Flora is a medium-energy gal. She enjoys leisurely exploring during her walks to later settle on the couch to take a nap and snuggle. She does well with children 5 years and older. She enjoys being with her humans but does well being left alone for a few hours with free rein of the house. She is house trained and will potty while on a leash. Flora would be a great companion for a young family or a retired individual, or a couple. If you think Flora is the right fit for your home, please contact your Midwest BREW adoption counselor. Story
Attributes Dog friendly Adult-only home preferred Crate trained Good in cars Requires a fence Working on housetraining Hi there, I am Cosmic Brownie. Yes, sigh. My foster parents call me Brownie. They say I am a sweet, little (23 pounds and low riding) boy. I do need to work on my trust skills with people. I will come trotting up, or follow behind you, with my tail wagging, but if you go to pet me, I tuck my tail and get a look of worry in my eyes. But we are working on that. I am also not a big snuggler. Foster mom likes to do snuggling practice with me to help. But I sit in her lap for 5 minutes, and then get down. I am pretty quiet for the most part, until I see those pesky squirrels, and I let them have it. I have a couple of toys I will chase around. I can still get my groove on, see my video. I would love people food, and try to counter surf, but I am too short to get my nose up there. But I will settle for a treat ball and whatever treat goodies you have. I walk pretty decently for a beagle, but I need to stop and smell, of course. I also ride well in the car; I just lie on the back seat. I am crated while everyone is at work, and no problems. At night, I sleep in a doggy bed or on a doggy pillow, and I sleep through the night. Foster dad loves that. I do need a fenced yard as I like to run around, and when I need to have a bowel movement, I am all over the yard until I go. Older kids only, as I have not been around small kids, and a quieter home would probably be best for me. My foster parents think I might have been an outside dog. I seem much happier and less timid when outside versus in. I have learned to love the dog pillow and bed, though!!! I am pretty much house-trained. I will go to the door, or if you see me get antsy, take me out. You do have to keep an eye on me as I still have moments where I want to go before getting outside. A home where someone is around at least part-time, might be best, so I don’t have to hold it all day long. If you think I’m the right boy for you, please contact your Midwest BREW adoption counselor. QUEEN ROSE Attributes Dog friendly Likes car rides Crate trained Medium energy Working on housetraining Queen Rose aka "Rosie" is a sweet, petite, two-year-old beagle who had a rough start. Rosie came to our home with two broken ribs and is currently positive for Giardia (parasite). When Rosie came to our home, she was a little timid but has warmed up and now loves everyone she meets. Her ribs have mended, and she has a true zest for life and is friendly to all dogs and all people she meets. Rosie doesn't give kisses often, but she does like to be as close to you as possible. She is a 100% cuddle-bug. Rosie is very smart and knows to go to her crate to eat, and also knows: sit, off, and down. When it is nap time, there is no better cuddler than Rosie. Her foster mom works from home, so a pillow in the office is a must since Rosie likes to stay in company as often as possible. However, if you want to put her in her crate, she goes in quietly and also stays in her crate at night. Rosie is very versatile; she can play and wrestle, or she can settle in with only one. This little 18lb sweetheart is ready to find her forever home,e and she deserves a wonderful one. If you think Rosie is the girl for you, please contact your Midwest BREW counselor right away! Story
Attributes Dog friendly Playful Likes car rides Potties on leash Working on housetraining High energy Juniper is a 7-month-old sweetheart who wants to be by your side and with you as often as possible. Juniper weighs 14lbs and will probably remain petite, but no guarantees with beagles. She looks and acts like 100% puppy with lots of energy. She loves everyone she meets, she is not timid and instantly loves everyone she meets. Her tail never stops wagging. Juniper has been very good with house-training, but still does use a pee pad on occasion. She loves to play with other dogs and loves to give kisses to humans. Juniper does not like her crate, but will go in it with another dog, and then she behaves well. She knows to go into her crate to eat. She is great in the car; she likes to look around while on the drive. Juniper loves toys, especially chew toys and soft plush toys. She is very high energy, and she will need a home ready to give her lots of exercise or keep her busy. If you think this wonderful little girl would be the perfect fit for your family, please contact us to learn more about her! NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI). Please read our Standards for Adoption and the information about beagles and puppies before you submit an adoption application. Remember that owning a puppy is a full-time commitment, and you must have the time to commit to a dog that will be with you for 12-17 years. Beagle puppies are cute, but they are very challenging. Puppies may eat your apartment (no refund of security deposit); people who are gone for more than 5 hours at a time will need to make dog walker, neighbor, or doggie daycare arrangements. We discourage the adoption of puppies to families with children under the age of six, since puppies will chew toys, shoes, blankets, hands, feet, and other important parts of your child's anatomy.
