Story
Benny is a 35 lb Miniature Australian Shepherd who will turn 7 on May 21st. He’s the perfect mix of calm and playful, affectionate, intelligent, and incredibly loyal. Benny is friendly and social with people, though he may be a bit shy at first. He warms up quickly and loves being around kids. He thrives on outdoor play and would do best in a home with a fenced yard where he can run and explore. While he enjoys being active, Benny also knows how to relax and settle down, making him a great companion for both adventures and downtime. Due to his herding instincts, he tends to walk close to people’s legs, so he may not be ideal for seniors or anyone with balance concerns. He is healthy, up to date on all vaccinations, and regularly checked by the vet. Benny prefers to be the only pet in the home. While he does fine with other dogs in boarding, he doesn’t enjoy sharing his living space with them or with cats. We love Benny deeply and this decision has been incredibly hard.

Story
CORI Attributes Dog friendly Playful Housetrained Good in cars High energy Requires a fence Adult-only home preferred Cori is a sweet girl who will be 8 years old in May. She is adorable with her slight underbite and snaggle tooth. It is obvious that Cori had a charmed life and was very spoiled by her previous doggy-mom. Unfortunately, Cori's Mom passed away, and now she is looking for a forever home where she can be spoiled again. Cori is great in cars and fully house trained. She is a high-energy dog and loves playing with other dogs. She would love regular play time with other dogs, especially in a doggy day care situation. Cori can be anxious and would do best in a quiet home with a fenced yard and without young children. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
RUSSELL Attributes Dog friendly Playful Snuggly Medium energy Housetrained Good with children of all ages Crate trained Requires a fence Fence climber Good in cars Not best for apartments Special needs Russell is a medium energy, 30-pound, 3-year-old beagle boy ready to find his forever family. His foster family describes him as a big, squishy snuggle bug. He is a sweet, gentle soul who loves everyone he’s met and gets along well with other dogs. He especially loves babies/infants (see pictures). He loves to give kisses and snuggle with his humans. Russell is a medical marvel. When he first came to us, the doctor noticed a significant heart murmur. Further testing by a cardiologist revealed that Russell had a birth defect that was causing a severe blockage in one valve in his heart (pulmonary stenosis). The blockage caused Russell to experience lethargy and weakness. Even worse, the doctor said he was at significant risk of heart failure if the blockage wasn’t resolved. The good news is that Russell had landed with Midwest BREW, and they got him in to see some brilliant doctors at Purdue Veterinary Medicine. The incredible team at Purdue performed a balloon valvuloplasty, a procedure where a long catheter is fed through the jugular vein (the large vein of the neck) and into the right side of the heart. At the tip of the catheter is a long balloon. When inflated, the balloon stretches the blocked valve opening, reducing the blockage. Russell sailed through the surgery with flying colors. Follow-up tests revealed that the inflated balloon reduced the blockage by 52% - a very successful surgery! Russell has recovered from surgery and now has a new lease on life! He has lots of energy and seems to want to make up for lost time. He runs, plays, chases, and wrestles with the other beagles here. Russell now has a wonderful quality of life and excellent prognosis for a full life span, as long as proper follow-up care is given. Russell will need to be with a family who is committed to his follow-up care. Russell must see a cardiologist and have an echocardiogram sometime within the next 2 months as a follow-up to his surgery. Additionally, Russell will need to see a cardiologist and have an echocardiogram once per year to ensure that the valve in his heart remains unblocked. Russell also takes medicine twice per day to help reduce stress on his heart. Russell would do best in a home with a fenced yard or a family that enjoys lots of outdoor time with their dog. He especially loves to play outside. He is house-trained and will go to the door when he wants outside. Russell is a climber and will climb over baby gates. He has never climbed over our chain-link fence, but I suspect he would be able to if sufficiently motivated. If you want to be Russell’s new family, contact Midwest BREW. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Story
FLORA Attributes Dog friendly Good w/cats Housetrained Medium energy Good w/kids over 4yo Potties on leash Flora is an adorable beagle/terrier mix female who just turned 8 years old on March 1st. She weighs around 23 pounds and is a warm and snuggly sweetheart with the softest fur. If you're a traveler, she will gladly be your best co-pilot at she loves car rides. She particularly enjoys having her head out the window when going slow. She quickly warmed up to our kitties despite never being around cats before, and she even likes snoozing with them on the couch. Flora is very cautious around large dogs as she was attacked in the past. Needless to say, a home with no large doggy friends is a must. Flora is a medium-energy gal. She enjoys leisurely exploring during her walks to later settle on the couch to take a nap and snuggle. She does well with children 5 years and older. She enjoys being with her humans but does well being left alone for a few hours with free rein of the house. She is house trained and will potty while on a leash. Flora would be a great companion for a young family or a retired individual, or a couple. If you think Flora is the right fit for your home, please contact your Midwest BREW adoption counselor. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
