Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more here Cutie brindle boy Bandz was found as a stray wandering in Oakland, so when he arrived at the shelter, he was anxious and unsure. With a bit of patience, and after making some nice people-friends, he's starting to come out of his shell and showing off his bubbly personality.  He enjoys gentle petting from his human buddies and really has a lot of fun running zoomies and playing chase with other energetic, social dogs. He's an active boy who definitely loves to play games and would do well continuing his rewards-based training. He's been in a foster home for about a week, and they confirm he is a very sweet and friendly dog who likes to cuddle- after getting enough activity during the day! He will be happiest in an active home that can take him on plenty of adventures.  Bandz attended the Oakland United Beerworks offsite event last week and was such a good boy. Check out his adorable booper in this video! Bandz is estimated to be 2 years old and weighs just under 55 pounds.  Click  HERE   to learn how to adopt  him.  June 5, 2023, 1:03 am

Story
Ishi is a sweet, adorable and high energy 9-month old puppy. She is currently about 26 lbs and will likely grow a bit more, probably to about 30-35 pounds when full grown. She's spayed and has all her vaccinations. She is a mix of boxer, red heeler, pitbull and mountain cur. I got her from her original owner, who is a friend of mine and who's dog is Ishi's mama. Ishi is sweet, loving, loyal and very smart. She's potty trained and knows several commands (sit, stay, paw, lie down.) She's great with other dogs and loves everyone she comes into contact with. And also - she's very high energy, a bit mouthy, a bit barky, and really needs a home where she can run and play a lot. Ideally that would be a home with a yard, another dog, or with kids who can tire her out. She's going to need additional training and a firm and loving human. But I truly believe that given the right environment she'll be a simply incredible companion to whoever is lucky enough to be her person.

Story
Meet Korra, the adorable land seal/boxer mix who is simultaneously shy and friendly. Both excited and nervous about her new life transition, Korra is so ready to blossom into the confident, outgoing girl she wants to be! This sweet mama is most excited for long naps on the sofa, head scratches, and fancy treats. -Korra is gentle, shy and sweet -Korra will love you right away and be the most loyal companion -Korra is so spry for a senior girl - you go girl! -Korra would love a quiet and patient home to call her very own Here's some notes from her foster: She is doing on walks. Her leash walking skills are always improving. She is smart and totally trainable! Korra is getting used to her new surroundings. She becomes more comfortable each day and follow me around the house. She doesn't ask for much the only thing she asks to be the only pet in the house. She slept well both nights. So far no accidents in the house. She likes going for long walks and sniff around. She is a gentle girl who loves attention. Korra is the sweetest pup! She loves to snuggle and wants to be near her humans at all times. She's pretty active and we walk 2-3 miles every day. She also enjoys playing fetch but wishes you could throw the ball to her without her having to give it back to you! Korra thinks she's a lap dog and loves to sleep next to me on the couch. She loves food and treats and is great with meeting new people. Korra is house trained if she has regular access to go out. Korra will make a great addition to a family who wants a loving cuddle buddy and playmate!

Story
Marcy and Dora’s dad died earlier this year. We are his human children and while we love them, we cannot make room for more animals. So we’re hoping someone special can adopt them into their loving home for their best second lives. In a letter on the topic of what to do on his passing, our dad wrote, “And finally, and most importantly to us, please find good homes for our dogs, Marcy and Dora. The dogs are super important to us. They are our hairy little grand kids. Due to their life experiences they can be very shy and slow to warm up to strangers but they both give us an enormous amount of love. We realize Dora will require special care since she was abused. They will miss each other if they are separated. Marcy kisses Dora each morning to rouse her from bed.” Marcy is a brown eyed 14 year old Boxer and German Shepherd mix, loving, and unable to climb stairways. Dora is a brown eyed 10 year old Pit Bull that loves to nap and snuggle.

Story
Rita is a sweet and loving girl who was a rescue from Mexico. We got her when she was about 4 months old. She is happy to snooze most of the day, enjoys walks and regularly drops her head on your lap for pets. Rita has a strong foundation of training - heels well on walks, comes when called and goes to her "place" on command. Rita does struggle with anxiety and has fear-based reactivity to other dogs and new people in the home. While this is manageable, we recently moved to a home with lots of off leash dogs, no fenced yard and a lot of neighbors coming and going and the environment has become stressful for everyone involved. While Rita does well with other dogs she knows and/or is carefully introduced to, she struggles with greeting new dogs on her own. She would do best with an owner who is experienced with reactive dogs and can continue her training and support. A fenced yard would be a dream, as she loves to soak up the sun and can no longer do that at our house.

Story
We rescued Jax 3 years ago, and he's become a beloved member of our family that we are heartbroken to have to re-home due to new jobs with travel and commutes. Jax is a nearly 7 year old boxer mix... a 70 pound dog who would love to sit in your lap and give lots of sloppy kisses if you let him! Jax is a sweetheart, whether curled at your feet in the family room, playing keep-away with the kids, or running with his doggie friends around the backyard. Jax's main challenge is separation anxiety: He spent over a year in the shelters after being abandoned by his previous family, and still suffers from anxiety if left alone at home. We've worked with him to gradually build up to being at home for an hour, or with another dog, but haven't been able to be consistent in his training in this area. The perfect home for Jax will have a large enclosed yard, one or more doggie companions, and loving humans around him! $50 donation to your local shelter required.

Story
Notes from the foster family: Mary is a big, short-statured senior bulldog who is endlessly affectionate. She is house-trained, knows basic commands like sit, and walks well on leash. As an older bulldog, she likes short, slow walks and doesn`t like to get overheated. Because of her large size and sometimes exuberant playfulness and willfulness, she is probably best in a home with adults or a family with older children. And a house with no or few stairs is best because she`s not an athlete per se. She gets very excited when she sees other dogs but hasn`t been tested for dog aggression, so she may need a household without other pets. She doesn`t bark but makes a variety of cheerful vocalizations, especially around her meal times. She`s always ready to nap and will lull you to sleep with her snoring. Her smiley face and wonderful disposition--she loves to meet people and be petted by strangers--will make her a great companion. Mary is ready to retire and would love to meet you! Mary`s cheerful countenance and great disposition makes her a wonderful companion. In addition to being endlessly affectionate, this big, short-statured senior bulldog is housetrained, knows basic commands like sit, and walks well on leash. Because she`s an older gal, she likes short, slow walks and doesn`t like to get overheated. Because of her size (and occasionally exuberant playfulness -- and stubbornness) she`d probably fit best in a home with adults or older children, and would prefer no stairs because she`s not an athlete. Instead of barking, Mary makes a variety of cheerful vocalizations, especially at meal times. She`s always ready to nap and will lull you to sleep with her snoring. Mary gets very excited when she sees other dogs but we haven`t let her meet any yet, so it remains to be seen how well she might get along with another pooch. If you`re in the market for a big ol` sweetheart to share your hearth, Mary is waiting.
