Mateo is a proud Puerto Rican pup who made his journey to the mainland about two years ago through a rescue. Since then, he’s experienced more change than any dog should—multiple foster homes, an adoption, and most recently, being surrendered again. Through it all, Mateo has never lost his spark. Today, he’s safe with Border Tails Rescue, just waiting for the one thing he’s never truly had: a forever home that sticks. At around 4–5 years old, Mateo is full of life, personality, and charm. He’s a happy, goofy boy who loves attention and isn’t shy about asking for it—he’ll happily “chat” with you to let you know what’s on his mind. His energy level is higher than average for his age, so he’ll do best with an experienced owner who can provide structure, consistency, and plenty of outlets for exercise and enrichment. Mateo thrives in calmer environments, so a suburban or rural home is ideal. City life is a bit too overwhelming for him, as loud noises and constant activity can make him anxious. He has a strong prey drive, which means a home without cats is a must. The good news? He does very well with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions, though he may need some guidance on leash when he gets overstimulated. Mateo is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm, and Border Tails Rescue will support his medical needs during this time. Despite this, he continues to show just how resilient and joyful he is every single day. While he has previously lived with children, we’re still learning what kind of family setup suits him best now. What we do know is that Mateo is thriving in his current foster home in a quiet, country setting—and it’s given us a glimpse of the happy, balanced dog he can be in the right environment. Mateo isn’t just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone who understands him, believes in him, and is ready to give him the stability and love he’s been missing. Ash is a big happy guy who is easy to love. He may be 8 years old, but you wouldn't know it. He loves to play with other dogs (he gets along great with my own dog and my fosters). He greets us enthusiastically every morning when we get up and every time we come home. On walks, he's a little pokey because there's always a lot to sniff. He plays hard with other dogs both in the house and in the yard, but he also likes to sunbathe in the yard. He's a big guy and his beautiful brindled coat improves a little every day. In our home, he's thriving, and he makes us feel well appreciated. He's well-mannered and housetrained.

Here is what a Volunteer had to say on a dog day out with Giggly Wiggly: “ Me and giggly wiggly had a wonderful time today. Although she started out very shy with her tail tucked under I was able to earn her trust after a pup cup and some love while we drove to my neighborhood. We went for a walk and she was a little nervous with her tail tucked under but about half way through her tail perked up a little and she had a skip in her step! She was actually so sleepy after the walk that she fell asleep sitting up which I captured in the 5th photo. she had some much needed belly rubs in the grass and then took a nap while sun bathing. During that time I learned this sweet girl is the epitome of a couch potato. She would much rather sleep and lounge all day then go for a walk so that is what we did with the rest of our time.”

Here is what her foster has to say! “ Hi, I’m Penelope! I’m a beautiful Pitbull Terrier with a big heart, an even bigger personality—and I’m happy to say I’m now super healthy and heartworm‑free! I’ve got plenty of energy for walks, playtime, and fun, but I also know how to relax and enjoy quality time with my people. I’m fully potty trained and very food‑motivated, which makes me eager to learn and respond well to training. I should admit, though, that I can be a little sneaky—if food is left on the counter, I might think it’s a snack just for me, and I do enjoy checking out low garbage cans—I love a good treasure hunt! But with a little supervision and structure, I do just fine. Being crate trained helps keep me safe and out of trouble when I’m home alone—but it’s my safe space too. One of my favorite things in the world is cuddling. I love being petted, snuggling, and soaking up all the affection I can get—especially belly rubs! I get along with other dogs, but cats aren’t really my thing. Hard pass. But if you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate, fun‑loving companion who will keep you smiling and give you endless love, I might just be your perfect match.
