Story
Luke is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through his pictures to see his cute video content! You may remember seeing Luke on our website before, as he was with us from October to February! He was adopted into a loving home, but returned a few weeks later due to his adopter's circumstances suddenly changing. We were sad that Luke was back at the shelter, but must admit that we do love having this little boy around. We make sure his days are fun-filled-- just look at all his playgroup videos! Luke is Mr. Popular. His nickname here is Luke Licky and that is because he has this habit of greeting all his dog friends with a free teeth cleaning courtesy of his tongue! He loves to lick his friends' mouths and snoots! Luke has had many roommates since he has been in our care. He loves having the companionship of a dog friend in his kennel and in life. Luke is a special and wonderful soul who has been looking for his permanent home for far too long. We hope his people will hurry up and find him, because he so deserves a place to call home. Since Luke has spent time in a foster home before being adopted, and then spent two months in an adoptive home, we do know a lot about him! We know that Luke will need a dog pal in order to thrive, so that is something we will require his adopters to have. We would only require that when absolutely needed, as we never want to put barriers up to adoption, but we do feel strongly he needs that. Due to the recent flooding in our shelter, Luke was placed in the best possible foster home with our staff member Eric, who Luke loves, and Eric's four dogs. Of course Luke gets along great with the dogs. Luke is also crate trained and housebroken, and basically plays and sleeps and relaxes. Luke is great in the car, too. He is a low-maintenance dude! We do know that Luke bit scared of kids, and he will bark at them, and he may also bark at new people especially men. We call Luke a "boofer," because after a couple of minutes he is fine. Eric, his current foster dad, has had friends over without issue. We don't know how people have resisted his Boxer puppy eyes and adorable underbite for so long, I mean COME ON! Luke is so polite and sweet, and deserves an amazing adoptive home once and for all. Luke's adoption fee is $250. This animal is neutered, is up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Bear is a very handsome, young boy looking for a forever home of his own. We believe he is a Boxer mix, sporting a very attractive dark brindle coat. We estimate Bear’s date of birth at February 10, 2021. At the time of this posting he is just under two years old. He is about 60 lbs. Bear loves people and he also loves eating almost anything. He is not so much a chewer, as a dog who likes to eat rocks, sticks, toys. As such, his new family will need to be vigilant to ensure Bear does not get himself into trouble, ingesting non-food items! Bear is active and energetic, typical of a big, young dog, and sometimes can get carried away with his play. He loves running in the secure, fenced yard of his foster home. He keeps himself entertained (but, watch out for him eating rocks, sticks, etc!!); he would not do well in a dog park or day care. We suggest he be an only dog. Given his size and energy level, Bear would not be an ideal canine companion for younger children. We expect children over the age of 12 would be ok. And of course, an all-adult home would be perfect for Bear! An ideal home for Bear is one in which he can thrive as an only dog, with a family experienced with larger dogs who sometimes can get out of hand. The family will also need to be vigilant when it comes to Bear’s tendency to seek out interesting things to eat. As is the case with all young, larger dogs, Bear would greatly benefit from obedience training which can also be a bonding experience with his new family. No doubt, Bear has the potential to evolve into the perfect pup, but is looking for that family willing to commit to him and provide him the forever home he deserves. Bear is fully vetted, up to date on all vaccinations, neutered & microchipped and on year-round heartworm prevention. To learn how you can add this handsome young boy to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. BAARK is located in the Chicago area and adopt our dogs only local to the area.

Story
Huey is an extremely handsome pit bull/lab mix. He was found in a hoarding situation with 26 other animals. He came to the shelter extremely thin and scared. He was so shy and shut down that he wouldn't come out of his run for months. He needs love, patience, and a quiet home that will allow him to slowly build trust. He was pretty broken when he came to us and it took him a long time to come out of his shell. He is scared of new people and new situations so he needs someone that will take their time getting to know him, and give him the space he needs to get comfortable and build trust. He is so loving once he trusts you! If you think you have the love and patience Huey needs to be a happy pup, email us at bombshellbullies@hotmail.com.

Teela is a Tennessee girl at heart! She was found running loose in bad shape down south in the land of the Smoky Mountains. She is a wild child who loves to run and must have a fenced-in yard to stretch her legs. She will stick to you like velcro so having a cozy couch is a must. She loves car rides, and will literally do anything for a treat. This has made training her a breeze! Email us at bombshellbullies@hotmail.com is you're interested in meeting her!
