Meet Lola! This very sweet and spunky girl is very skittish and distrustful with new people, but has really blossomed in her foster home. We believe she is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix and has many personality traits that we think will appeal to the Chihuahua people out there. This girl is not only beautiful, but is also housebroken, crate trained and knows several commands. She'd also be perfect for those hot summer months and cold winter months, since though she loves to be outside, she's not super fond of lengthy walks. Once she chooses her person and bonds she's silly, playful, cuddly and loyal, the perfect work from home companion who loves to sit on your lap and help with whatever you are doing. She's not a fan of other animals, children, or strangers especially men although she's been able to make friends with them if they ignore her at first and offer lots of yummy treats- intros have to be slow and on her terms. 🚨 Dachshund Army, Mocha needs your help! 🚨 Only 3 1/2 years old, her life was forever changed when she was recently hind end paralyzed due to the dreaded doxie IVDD. Sadly disc issues are the price the breed pays for those adorable short stubby legs and long backs. She was on medication but did not regain function, and we weren’t contacted to take her in until a week after her injury, too late for surgery to give her a high chance of regaining normal hind end function. She’s seen a neurologist and is on strict crate rest right now- there is still some chance she may improve over time since it was a very small disc with minimal compression on her spinal cord, but we have to have to move forward with the expectation the damage is permanent. She’s no longer in any pain and can still live a long happy quality life as a wheelchair dog with the right person and a lot of extra care. She’s a gentle sweet small standard dapple longhair, 16lbs, loves her squeaky toys, likes other small gentle dogs and is coping her with crate rest and lifestyle change as well as can be expected. She is incontinent but has been cooperative having her bladder expressed and being cleaned, and hasn’t been leaking between expressions as long as done regularly. We are urgently seeking a longer term foster or adopter able to stay on top of her care to make sure she doesn’t get sores or urinary tract infections. Mocha is a lifestyle choice not to be entered into lightly, but promises to reward you with years of loyalty and trademark doxie kisses and long-nosed nuzzles. Thanks to our partnership with Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge she was able to get an immediate neurology visit and MRI to explore all avenues for how best to help her. DOB 12-7-2024 Wolfie is a gorgeous Red and White Long Hair! This beautiful boy loves everyone, likes to play with toys and his friends. He is neutered, heartworm negative and has received a Proheart6 preventative injection, up to date on shots and is now looking for a loving home. His adoption fee is 900.00 and his transport fee is 135.00. HEARTS is our transport, they run every 2 weeks. It's the best transport and the only one we will use. This purebred chocolate long-haired boy is named Rexx and he would like very much to come to NJ to find a new home. Rex is 3 years old and weighs about 12 pounds. Rexx is very loving but he can be a hog about not sharing with other dogs in the house. He is learning that he can't be King of the Castle all of the time though. He lives with lots of dogs & is good with them - he is also a very smart boy! Rexx does have some separation anxiety so he would not do well in attached housing. If there is not another dog in his new home then he'd do well with someone who is home most of the time. Rexx would do best in an adult-only household but may be fine with young adults over 15 years old who can respect his space. Meet Prospect Pete (Petey) Pete is a 5-year-old miniature Dachshund that was found as a stray in southern Louisiana and picked up by local animal control. He was in rough shape - he was very underweight, had ear infections in both ears, had hair loss on most of his back and hind legs, was in need of a dental, and he had a growth on his chest. A volunteer of Northstar offered to foster him and get him back to health. Physically Petey will heal, but in his 5 years of life there was trauma. Petey was more than likely abused by a male figure. He loves to be around a woman to feel safe. On first meeting Petey, his foster said he was guarded but with treats and a gentle voice he came to her and accepted being petted. Petey's foster soon realized that he does not like cats. He barks and chases them. He loves other dogs though and he is partial to his foster mom's Foxhound. He wants to play and be near her all the time. He needs another dog companion in his new home to build his confidence. He will bark at men out of fear to protect himself. He doesn't bite, he will just turn the other way if a man walks near him. Petey needs a quiet home with minimal foot traffic. He requires a female only home with someone that works from home, is a retiree, or is not gone many hours in the day. He has a bit of abandonment issues and anxiety when alone so apartment living with a shared wall is not recommended. He has a loud bark when stressed. We are working on crate training. He is fed in his crate, and crated at night in the bedroom. When he knows you are in the room with him, he will settle down and sleep. When he knows you are his person, he is loving and playful and only wants to be near you. He loves toys and running in the yard with other dogs. He loves car rides and he's learning to walk straight on a leash. We are also working on house training. He wears a belly band to prevent accidents inside. He will use a potty pad when they are laid down if he is not taken outside in time to poo. He is a work in progress. If you are a woman that wants a loyal, and loving lap dog, Petey is your guy.
