Story

My name is Mister Clean and I’m looking for my forever home. Why am I named after a bald guy? Well, I came to SIRA after being found lying in mud on the side of the road, emaciated and bald from a severe flea infestation. I was in bad shape. X-rays showed metal and food wrappers in my tummy – I was so hungry I ate anything! My ears were infected and I was very anemic. But once I got food and vet care, things got much better! My fur started growing back and my ears healed. And I put on weight – I’m about 28 pounds now. I am being fostered just north of Columbus, OH. SIRA thinks I’m about 10 years old. I’m great with other dogs and I love cuddling with my foster family. Yep, you heard that right. I’m a “fake Shiba” since I love to snuggle. My foster family was told that I may have a disc problem in my back and maybe something going on with my hips, but so far, nothing slows me down. I dart, spin, and dance my way through the house! Every time I come in from a potty break, I get the most exquisite zoomies. I pirouette, fling myself up on the couch, and then dance around the whole house. I love going on walks with my foster family, getting treats and belly rubs, and perching on my favorite chair. I’ll happily speak up and tell you off if you’re too slow to take me outside or if you’re not sharing your treats with me. I am fully house trained and I do fine when my foster family has to leave the house. Now that I’ve beaten the odds, the only thing I need is a forever family. My perfect forever home will have a nice comfy spot with a sunbeam to nap in and someone who will let me sit in their lap and give me a rub-down. If there’s another nice dog, that would be great, but I’d probably do fine as an only dog as long as you spend time with me. I’d do best with a securely fenced yard, but also enjoy leash walks. I'm neutered and vaccinated and ready to go! I haven’t lived with children, cats or small pets, so I don’t know how I’d be with them. Story

Duke is a 7 month old German shepherd mix that I adopted from a shelter! This sweet boy is very cuddly and loves to be with his person, and I unfortunately work a lot so he needs a better fit. He is very treat motivated and eager to learn. He has a hard time being crated because of his separation anxiety, so he needs a home where someone is home often and can work on the crate training and give this boy the company he enjoys. He does well with other dogs as well.

Holly is a happy, loving senior that just wants a soft bed and regular meals. She is carrying a few extra pounds and needs an exercise program to help her lose a bit of weight. Her person had to go into hospice, so Holly finds herself looking for a new family. She is very easygoing and is most happy just being near her people, lounging around. She is great with other dogs, cats and loves everyone. Story

Lima bean had a really rough start in life. He was 1 of over 50 dogs living in horrible conditions. Since being removed, he has received vet care and is slowly learning people petting him is ok. He still quivers initially but is starting to realize it is not a bad thing. He has no idea how to play or what toys are. Walking on a leash is a very scary thing. He is a work in progress that needs a quiet home that will continue to slowly work with him so he knows he is safe. He may never be a happy go lucky dog that is excited to see people but he will learn a soft bed and chew toy are good things. Lima bean needs a calm, quiet house. He won't do well with children but another dog to help him learn how to be a dog might help him trust quicker. Pippi was adopted from a shelter in 2013 and grew up in a loving family in a safe environment. She will be 13 years old in February. She gets along with most dogs but not all. She has never had an accident in the house, never destroyed any property, never been aggressive with any person or animal. She has respect for cats. She is a Velcro dog - she loves her people. She knows commands. She walks well on a leash and doesn’t require lengthy walks - she just wants to sniff things. She would be a great companion for an older person who needs companionship. She is used to having access to a fenced backyard. She has no health problems and has gone to the vet regularly. She’s agile and jumps and runs like a younger dog, but isn’t hyper. It’s very hard for us to make this decision to rehome. We have had some health changes with multiple family members that require our full attention for the foreseeable future and Pippi is feeling neglected and depressed. She deserves more than we have to give.
