Story

Natalie was one of 4 Plott Hounds that were saved as young puppies from a high-kill shelter by another rescue, and recently they officially became HERO Hound gals! At approximately 8 months old and around 40 pounds each, these girls are still very much puppies who are learning what it means to be loved, safe, and part of a family. The sisters have spent much of their lives being fostered together in an outdoor kennel environment, but they have been around dogs of all shapes and sizes and have done very well. When they’re out of the kennel, they are surprisingly calm, sweet-natured girls who clearly want affection and are ready to discover the good life. Of the four, Nora and Nicole are currently the braver, more outgoing sisters, while Naomi and Natalie are a little more reserved and need some extra time to feel comfortable. But underneath those different personalities are four loving girls who want to trust, learn, and please their people. Their foster has been bringing them inside individually to help each girl experience home life without the pressure or security of having her sisters right beside her. They are making progress, but their future families should be prepared to patiently teach them all the basics — including house training, leash walking, household routines, and what it means to simply be a family dog. There are cats on the property, and while the girls have barked at them, they haven’t had enough close interaction for us to confidently say how they would do living with cats just yet. Considering these girls were once dumped as puppies and left to fend for themselves, their gentle and loving personalities are pretty incredible. They haven’t had the easiest beginning, but they are ready for their next chapter — one filled with soft beds, adventures, belly rubs, treats, and families of their very own.

**MEET WALLACE — THIS SWEET THANG!** Wallace is an absolutely gorgeous **8-month-old Beagle boy**, weighing around **25 pounds**, and he is ready to find his forever family! This handsome little guy is: Dog friendly Cat friendly People friendly Making great progress with house training and using the doggy door Fully vetted and ready for adoption! Now, Wallace *does* have something to say from time to time. He can be a bit of a barker...but come on, **he’s a Beagle!** He responds well to correction, but his new family should be prepared to continue working with him on training and helping him learn when his beautiful Beagle voice is needed — and when it isn’t. Wallace has been doing better and better in the house and is learning quickly. At just 8 months old, he’s still a young pup with plenty of growing and learning ahead of him. After a life of being used for breeding, Jane came to HERO nervous of people, but looking for love. Jane realized pretty quickly that she prefers the good life where she can play with other dogs and get love from people over her previous life. Jane, who is 50ish lbs and 2-3 years old, loves everything about the pet dog life and shows how much she loves it with her amazing smile. She loves playing with her foster dog siblings, she loves relaxing on couches and getting pets. She loves a full belly and time in the yard running around enjoying the sun. While Jane is not very picky about her playmates, she just loves being able to be a young hound instead of a mother 24/7. Jane is cat and kid friendly. She is housetrained and crate trained. She may need assistance with leash training, but is completely housetrained with a doggy door and enjoys having a fenced yard. If you are looking for a gentle and silly adult girl who is also still enjoying her missed puppy days, who will cherish your endless love and affection, Jane is your girl. We are shocked that small hound queen Opal is still looking for her furever home as she is serious hound girl perfection! Voted most statuesque hound and best squirrel & bird watch hound of the HERO House, Opal is about 8 years young, about 35-40lbs. Opal is a little on the shy side at first, but once she acclimates to her home, she is a loving, affectionate constant companion who loves to spend her time sprawled out on a couch or bed after her long shifts of watching the trees for critter activity. Opal is on slow kill treatment (provided by HERO) for heartworms due to her age & smaller body type. This does not stop her from enjoying the yard on a sunny day & shorts romps in the yard with the pack. Opal will play for short periods of time, but like any senior gal, she is way more interested in relaxing & getting love than playing with the pack. Opal prefer a calm home where she can enjoy the simple good life. She does well with our toddler when he is not being a crazy toddler, but often avoids him & his toddler antics. Opal would does love being loved on, so calmer, older children should be fine. Opal is seriously one of the most well behaved hounds we have ever had, though sje can get a little bouncy and let her hound hound shine for food & treats. Unlike many hounds, we believe Opal would be amazing as an only dog. She does not like being in a crate and is mot destructive when left out alone in the home. Say Hello to "Memphis". Her time was up in the shelter in August, but because of a wonderful friend Lauren McDonald and her beautiful family and HERO Hound Rescue Memphis didn't die today!!. She will be staying with us until she's vetted and then be going to foster in Canada with Lauren and her family. Lauren McDonald and her family adopted 2 amazing Plott Hounds from Greene County TN and have fostered several more dogs from here.Sometimes your adopters wind up being the best people ever. I love our PLOTT FAMILY!!! Memphis is about 50 lbs and is great in the house and is great with kids and cats and other dogs!
