Micah is a giant teddy bear who just wants to be close to you. He loves curling up with you on the couch and then going for a short walk around the block. He`s housetrained and doesn`t mind the crate. He sleeps quietly at night and loves his foster dog sister, though he will always vie for the most attention. Story
My name is Conrad! I'm 6 to 7 months old and 60 lbs. I am a big boy! I am a Pyr/Shepherd mix and will be large with maybe another 20 to 30 to go. I am a joyful and well behaved pup. My glass is always half full. I am housebroken and even trustworthy for a short period of time alone. I can stay in a safe spot when alone; I don't like the crate too much (not surprising for a Pyr mix). I am great with the resident cat. I enjoy hanging out with him and pushing the occasional cat button. I have not met young children but we think I would like all humans; I am friendly and I seem up for the social life. I am working on my leash manners but I am sure I would love a walk or two with my people during the day. A fenced in yard is required for me; I am a Pyr and would love that boundary to patrol! Story
Ms. Lady is a gorgeous Great Pyrenees mix who is super sweet, friendly with people and dogs and who would probably would be fine with cats because of her easy-going disposition. She is crate trained and housetrained but could use more leash training - she is rarely leashed as she has a big beautiful backyard to run around in her foster home in Texas! She is very low maintenance, low to medium energy,  and is in a foster home with 30 other dogs - she had that easy going, typical Pyr personality. Lady is about 4 years old and weighs 68 pounds. She is already fully vetted and she's healthy, heartworm negative, has no tick borne diseases and is on monthly preventatives, etc.   Lady is just happy to be in a home where someone is treating her well and she does not have to worry about where her next meal is coming from. She came into a Texas shelter with another Pyr mix (possibly her brother) - both were owner surrendered because the owners were letting them run loose and they did not want to pay the fine. The brother went to a local Austin rescue and Lady is now with NorthStar. If you've always wanted to have a Great Pyrenees in your family, just fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and ask to meet this sweet and gentle gal! The adoption fee for Ms. Lady will be $425. December 12, 2024, 7:37 pm

Story
Hank is a 20-month-old, purebred Great Pyrenees who has already lived more life than most dogs ever should. He weighs about 100 pounds, is neutered, fully vaccinated, and is as striking on the outside as he is loving on the inside. Hank is affectionate, smart, playful, and athletic. He completed a five-month professional training program with his owner and has excellent obedience skills. That said, Hank is still very much a Great Pyrenees at heart. Like many livestock guardian breeds, he has strong instincts to roam, patrol, and protect. Even though he has off-leash training, he should not be off leash outside of a safely enclosed area—Pyrs are well known for following their instincts and “disappearing” when something catches their attention. Before finding his current family, Hank was tied to a tree and abandoned as Hurricane Helene hit Asheville, NC. He survived, was rescued, taken to a shelter, and eventually transported north. His story touched the hearts of his adopters, who opened their home to him without hesitation. Hank now lives with three other rescued Great Pyrenees. Unfortunately, despite careful management and training, he has developed tension with the two male dogs in the home. This behavior appears to be situational and home-based, as he happily walks alongside those same dogs on long outings and shows no issues outside the house. He has done beautifully with the female dog in the home and has never shown any concerning behavior toward people. With humans, adults and children, Hank is gentle, affectionate, and endlessly sweet. After much thought, guidance, and heartbreak, his adopters have come to the painful realization that Hank would truly thrive as the only dog in the household. This decision is being made out of love—not convenience—and with Hank’s long-term happiness and safety at the center. Hank would do best in a home where he can be the sole canine companion. A fenced yard would be ideal, as he has energy to burn and loves to run, though he is also excellent on a leash. He is fully house-trained, has wonderful manners, and is the kind of dog who leans in for hugs and makes you feel chosen. This is not an easy goodbye for his family. Hank is deeply loved, and they are committed to finding him a home that will cherish him just as much—one where he can feel secure, understood, and truly at peace. If you feel that Hank would be a good fit for your home and would like to set up a meeting, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for XP Hank!
