Story
Mia is a tiny, loving pup who’s been hanging out in foster care while recovering from surgery to remove bladder stones—and she’s doing great! Because of her medical history, Mia will need to stay on a lifetime prescription urinary diet to help keep her healthy and feeling her best. We also require a vet reference for her adoption, just to make sure she continues getting the care and food she needs. In foster, Mia has shown what a total cuddle bug she is. Her foster mom says she’s pee pad trained, crate trained at night, and happiest when she’s glued to her person’s side. Seriously—if you’re looking for a little shadow who will follow you from room to room and keep you company all day, Mia is your girl. Her activity level is pretty low; she’s perfectly content to lounging around, napping, and soaking up affection most of the day. Mia can be a bit barky and nervous when meeting new people, but don’t let that fool you—she warms up quickly. Mia prefers to be the only dog in the home and this way she can be a single spoiled child. If you’re looking for a calm, cuddly, devoted little companion who just wants to be near her person and live the cozy life, Mia might be your perfect match Ready to Adopt? Story
Meet Murphy! AKA Smurf. Murphy has a zest for life! He is a happy, sweet, active boy who is amazingly cuddly as well. He loves, loves his morning walks, followed by a nice long nap. Murphy is an energetic boy and is VERY smart and highly food motivated. He is doing well learning is commands and knows sit, stay, down but still need work with recall and polishing on a leash. Murphy's perfect home is an active home where he is able to take a nice walk in the mornings to get out his energy and someone who would love to run, hike, and explore with him. He loves exploring and sniffing his surroundings. We love him so much but need to find him a wonderful new home because he has become too dominant with my elderly male dog and my elderly dog is now fearful of him. Murphy is fine with our female dog. Murphy is great with kids and he is fine meeting strangers on our walks. He needs someone committed to continuing training and someone home most of the time.

Story
Johnny was very happy that some kind human let TJO know that he needed help, and he was very thankful that the animal control officers had a nice warm vehicle for him to ride in on the way to safety. Once he had a comfy bed, a full belly, and some butt scratches he was ready to show everyone how goofy and loveable he can be. OTHER PETS: Johnny was disinterested in similarly sized dogs and has a high prey drive so he would not be a good fit to live with cats or small dogs. He would prefer to be an only dog but would be open to meeting a relaxed dog with a similar `live and let live` attitude. [Case by Case (No Cats or Small Dogs!)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Johnny currently does not walk very well on a leash; his best fit would be with someone with experience with positive reinforcement (or willingness to learn) to teach new skills, and a guardian who is strong enough to keep him safe. [Some Experience] KIDS: Johnny is a social, outgoing dog who enjoys interacting with humans and playing with toys. He has not engaged in resource-guarding while at TJO, and would likely get along with most humans. While Johnny is friendly, he may not be a good match for small humans who might get knocked over by his enthusiastic wiggles. Any minors who would be living with him should meet Johnny prior to adoption. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Johnny will need a good blend of exercise and playtime combined with mental enrichment such as puzzle toys and games to fully meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Johnny bond with his new owner while learning new skills and fun tricks. Johnny is a strong puller while walking on the leash and will need support and positive reinforcement to help him learn loose leash skills. [Moderate]February 25, 2026, 6:40 pm

KING

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Size

Story
OTHER PETS: King has been comfortable around other dogs while at TJO, but hasn't had much interest in interacting. While he could possibly get along with another dog that will let him have his own space in the home, he would be just as happy in a place all to himself! [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: King is a strong dog with a lot of energy, and still needs to learn the foundations of positive reinforcement training. He loves toys and will likely do best learning with someone that has experience with positive reinforcement and the capability to handle stronger dogs. [Some Experience]KIDS: King is uncomfortable with some handling and isn't fond of being restrained or hugged (dogs in general do not enjoy being hugged or kissed), but he hasn't shown any signs of resource guarding while at TJO. Because of his size and energy level, though, he would likely do best in a home with older children that can understand how to interact with him and aren't as easy to knock over. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: King is an active dog that has a bit of an obsession with balls, and will benefit from varied activities to prevent the obsession from becoming more intense. (Once he finds one, he's set on keeping track of it in any way he can. He'll dig through bins, hop up on counters, even crawl under chairs!) He's bound to bring at least a few laughs into the home, but he would likely do best with an active family that can provide various methods of both physical and mental enrichment. [Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: While King already seems to understand `sit`, he is still at the beginning of his positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while he adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help King not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner as well. [Moderate]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]February 25, 2026, 5:32 pm

Story
OTHER PETS: Checkers was a bit awkward with the other dogs she's met at TJO, but she did initiate some play! She has a bit of a pushy play style, but was also wary of a dog that was more pushy with her. She would likely do best in the home with a dog that can match her energy and play style, while also knowing when to settle separately. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Checkers has been found to have hyperthyroidism and would do best with someone that has an established relationship with their own primary veterinarian. [Some Experience]KIDS: While Checkers has a good energy level, she has moments where she can get excited and may jump up or run into someone's legs, and can also be intense about her food. She would likely do best with kids that are old enough to understand how to interact with her and when to let her have her own space. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Checkers has a good level of energy outside the kennel, being happy to chase some toys and then settle on her own when she's done. She would likely be a good companion for walks around the neighborhood, though like many dogs she does tend to pull on the leash when she's excited about where she's going. She would do great with various types of both mental and physical enrichment, and will likely be a great hiking partner with further positive reinforcement training! [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: Checkers has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and will need a good relationship with an established vet to ensure that she remains healthy and happy. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Checkers is still at the beginning of her positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Checkers not only learn her basic cues & skills, but also help her to bond with her new owner. [Moderate]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]February 26, 2026, 3:48 pm
