Story
Meet Kimba, a 7-year-old bundle of love who is ready to bring a whole lot of joy (and a little bit of goofy energy) into your life! Kimba is a sweet senior who proves that age is just a number—he is incredibly affectionate with everyone he meets, and his tail practically never stops wagging. 🐶 Social Butterfly: Kimba has a great history living with a small dog and loves playing with his pup friends at the shelter. He gets very hyper and excited during playtime, so if you have another dog at home, we’d love to do a meet-and-greet 👶 Kids: This gentle guy is does really well with children and has successful experience living with everyone from toddlers on up. 🛋️ Champion Snuggler: If you’re watching TV, expect Kimba to be right on top of you. He absolutely loves cuddling with his people and considers himself a lap dog, no matter his size. 🚶‍♂️ Active Yet Chill: He looks forward to his daily walks, but his favorite part is the immediate follow-up—a quick water break followed by a nice, long nap on the couch or a cozy dog bed. He also enjoys a spirited game of tug-of-war with a rope toy! If your couch feels a little too empty and your heart has room for a tail-wagging best friend, Kimba is waiting for you! Stop by the shelter to meet this charming boy today and see if he's the missing piece to your family. Ready to Adopt? Story
OTHER PETS: Cookie has been wonderful with the other dogs he's met. He's been both friendly and respectful, even when another dog doesn't seem interested in him. While excited to meet other dogs, he seems to match energy well and knows how to take a hint when he might be showing a little too much energy. [Likely (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. While Cookie does warm up quickly, he is still timid and unsure with people he's not familiar with. When meeting new people, he should be allowed to approach on his own time, but also wouldn't say no to a few offered treats! He takes treats very gently from people, though he has shown a tendency to resource guard high-value things like bones and his food. [Some Experience]KIDS: Because of Cookie's resource guarding seen at the shelter, his best match would be a home without kids. While his guarding can be managed easily by simply leaving him alone while he eats or enjoys a bone, young kids may be too unpredictable for him to feel comfortable. Trading up is the safest way to remove food and toys when necessary, using something of equal or higher value, this teaches dogs they don't have to lose things they value. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cookie hasn't shown much interest in play, but once he's comfortable he'll climb right into your lap and settle down for a nap. He may be a lap dog, but he definitely savors his time outside, especially on a clear spring day! And once he's fully settled into his new home, he may even gain a new interest in playing or toys. A combination of regular, appropriate exercise and mental enrichment such as food puzzles and scent games will help meet his needs. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: Cookie arrived at TJO with what is called a `cherry eye` in both eyes. While not an immediate concern at this time, an established relationship with a vet will be important to monitor any changes and keep up with any future care he may need. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Cookie is still at the beginning of his training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience as he adjusts and decompresses in his new home. Positive reinforcement will help Cookie not only learn his new skills and fun tricks, but also help him to feel more comfortable and confident in himself! It will provide a good opportunity for him to bond with his new owner as well. [Minimal]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]June 5, 2026, 12:48 pm

Story
***IN FOSTER--call to schedule a meet***Peter was a bit underweight and nervous when he first came to TJO but after a good night's sleep and a few days of regular, nutritious meals, he was feeling a little better and a little braver. Peter is at a more appropriate weight and has been making friends with staff and volunteers while he enjoys being safe and warm during all these snow storms.OTHER PETS: Peter is mostly disinterested in other dogs but when uncomfortable will get irritated across the barrier with another dog. He would do well as an only pet. [Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Peter is pretty easy-going and enjoys the company of a human friend, some playtime, and opportunities to rest on a soft bed. Peter does not love giving up his toys, so to help him feel confident, trading up (with another toy or high value treat) is a a safer way to remove toys and will help him worry less about losing high value items. GROOMING: [Minimal] KIDS: Peter has been uncomfortable with some handling but tolerant of it, he does solicit physical interaction but arthritis makes him sore. He can be a little grabby with toys, unintentionally brushing teeth against fingers or knuckles when giving/taking toys; Peter would not be a good fit for younger children and should meet everyone he would be living with prior to adoption. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Peter still enjoys being active but too much walking could aggravate his arthritis; he enjoys playing with humans and toys, sometimes getting grabby with toys and fixating on them occasionally. Peter would do well with a variety of mental enrichment activities - a combination of physical activity and mental stimulation will help meet his needs and keep him young; you can also speak with your vet about diet and exercise/physical therapy referals. [Good Yoga Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Peter will need a good relationship with a vet to ensure his arthritis is optimally managed and he is able to remain active well into old age. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Peter bond with his new owner, build self-confidence, and new skills and fun tricks. Positive reinforcement is a great way to keep his mind engaged and active to fully meet his needs. [Minimal]June 5, 2026, 12:48 pm

Story
Crouton is a dog who is timid around humans but fearless when it comes to following his senses! As a nervous pup, he is a clever boy will dig under fences if left unsupervised and spends his indoor time searching for exits to the outdoors when he is not napping or warming human laps. Crouton is looking for a quiet home that will be able to keep him safe, build trust, and provide ample time for lap naps.OTHER PETS: Crouton greeted other dogs appropriately, disengaged and continued looking for ways outside. He may warm to another dog in time but he is perfectly happy as a solo pup hanging out with his humans. Crouton should meet any dogs he would be living with prior to adoption. [Disinterested in Other Dogs]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone who has experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn, and keeping escape artist dogs safe while allowing Crouton to set the pace of interactions would be Crouton's ideal fit. [Some Experience] KIDS: Crouton enjoys calm quiet time with humans he trusts. He warms quickly to people who let him set the pace of their interactions. We want to set Crouton up for success, so his human family members should be old enough to understand and learn how to interact with him safely. Children and dogs should always be actively supervised when spending time together for everyone's safety. [13+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Crouton enjoys exploring outside; he is very curious and walks well on leash but WILL dig under fences if left unsupervised. Crouton would likely do well with regular neighborhood walks, potentially longer ones as long as care is taken to ensure he does not overexhert himself. A combination of mental enrichment, such as puzzle toys and scent games, and regular exercise, are the best ways to meet his needs. Play may not happen right away but can be developed as he decompresses. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Crouton bond with his new owner while learning new skills, fun tricks, and learn the enjoyment of playtime. Story
Rocky is a sweet girl who is going to the need the support of her humans while she settles into her new home and works her weight loss plan. While she has no problem staying active, Rocky loves food and will need a responsible person to ensure she doesn't have too many snacks.OTHER PETS: Rocky may feel a little nervous around bigger dogs initially, often keeping her distance while she assesses the situation. However, with slow, positive introductions and a bit of patience, her playful and friendly nature shines through soon she's happily engaging in games and forming bonds. *This may not be the case with every dog as every dog is different* NO CATS NO SMALL DOGS [Likely (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Rocky is looking for a loving home where she can finally feel safe and secure. She thrives with patience and positive reinforcement, as well as emotional stability and a reliable routine as she blossoms. [First Dog]KIDS: Rocky should meet any children she’ll be living with to ensure a good match. She would do best with kids who understand how to respect a dog’s space and boundaries. Actively supervising dog-child interactions will keep everyone safe. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Rocky is a playful and thrives with activity and interaction. She enjoys playing fetch, running around the yard, and engaging with her favorite toys. A combination of regular exercise and plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet her needs. [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement is the most effective and humane way to strengthen the bond between you and your dog. By reinforcing behavior we like with high-value treats, (as well as praise and affection for solid skills), your dog will learn to associate those actions with pleasant outcomes and will be more likely to repeat them.
