Story
Tootsie roll is a loving sweetheart. She is potty trained , very sweet and loving . Not aggressive at all. Grew up in dog parks she is great with dogs of all sizes . Requires a lot of exercise . Has amazing recall , when you call her she comes right away . Listens very well. She is very well trained . Does not jump or bother . She has a bed that she loves with her blankets she sucks on the blankets to sleep , she is great with kids , She’s never been around cats really and when she has it hasn’t really been good so cats are a no go . Looking for someone who is experienced with Dobermans as they are not just a dog that looks cool. They are Velcro dogs and require lots of attention and exercise . Ideally looking for a family with a house and a big yard . Love her to death but life just didn’t turn out as expected and feel like she deserves more attention and a better life .

Story
Everest is a beautiful, shy, young Husky who is taking some time to discover that the humans here at the shelter are kind and trustworthy. Everest has a curious nature when it comes to other dogs she sees, as well as people, and her environment, and she has relaxed enough to play with a couple of toys. When allowed to check things out at her own pace she becomes visibly more comfortable, and will continue to blossom in a patient, quiet home. OTHER PETS: Everest showed minimal interest during a dog meet, however as she relaxes we will continue to assess how she feels around her fellow canines. Any resident dog who is relaxed and well socialized may be workable, and must meet Everest prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement, and helping shy dogs learn they are safe, would be an ideal fit for Everest. Nervous dogs do best in homes where there is little chaos, and a safe space to go when things become overwhelming. An owner willing to keep an active dog’s needs met will also help Everest be her best self. [Experienced]KIDS: [Older (15+)] Because Everest is nervous and sensitive to noises, touch, and can be anxious, she would be happiest in an adult-only home. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Everest is young and curious, and will do best with regular exercise and playtime in safe areas, combined with mental enrichment such as scent games, food puzzles/scatter feeding, and ongoing learning. Physical exercise and mental enrichment will help meet any dog’s needs and both are a great way to learn about Everest’s favorite pastimes. [Active/Young] VETERINARY CARE: [Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Everest is still young and will thrive with positive reinforcement and happy experiences as she learns new skills & fun tricks. Positive reinforcement is will help Everest build confidence while bonding with her guardian. She will also benefit from slow introductions to handling such as leash/harness, noises, physical touch. New experiences should occur slowly, at her pace, and paired with high value treats to create pleasant associations. Reading body language will help know when to give her space, which can be found on our website: www.tjoconnoradoptioncenter.com/resources/dog-resources GROOMING: Everest has a thick double coat and will need regular, consistent grooming (2-3 times a week, but sometimes daily depending on season) to stay comfortable and avoid matting, and introduced at her pace. Dogs with thick coats can benefit from a combination of in-home grooming as well as fear-free professional grooming. [Professional Grooming]June 29, 2026, 4:47 pm

Story
OTHER PETS: Monroe is disinterested in other dogs; she will greet them appropriately and then move on without further interest.. She could do well with a respectful, patient dog who will respect her boundaries; she would definitely do well as an only dog. Any dogs that would be living with Monroe should meet her prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Monroe's best fit would be with someone who has owned active dogs who require varied exercise and mental enrichment, as well as experience helping anxious dogs build confidence. [Very Experienced] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]KIDS: Monroe would do best in a quiet, predictable home where she has her own quiet space. She will need several weeks to decompress in her new environment. Monroe has not exhibited resource-guarding while at TJO, but she is conflicted during play - she will solicit attention and crawl into laps but will change her mind once petting starts. Conflicted dogs need a lot of time to build trust and learn to trust. It is important that whoever lives with Monroe lets her set the pace for their interactions and DOES NOT try to force pets/attention on her. We want Monroe to be set up for success so her human family members should be able to understand how to read body language (https://www.tjoconnoradoptioncenter.com/resources/dog-resources). Interactions with children must be actively supervised for everyone's safety and comfort. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Monroe will be able to express her playful side when she's comfortable and less anxious, and she will likely be a very playful high energy dog once she is settled into her new home, decompresses, and feels safe with her humans. She has demonstrated solid loose-leash walking skills so far, but will enjoy the good sniffs and things of interest during walks. Enrichment such as puzzle toys, scatter feeding, scent games, toys and regular exercise will help fully meet Monroe's needs both mentally and physically. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Monroe bond with her new owner while building confidence and creating that special bond while learning new skills and fun tricks. [Moderate]GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Monroe's coat clean; when double-coated dogs shed their underlayer (twice a year) some owners choose to get a professional groom to help with all the shedding. Monroe appears to have been shaved - her double coat can take up to a year to grow back fully, and there is always a chance that some spots don't grow back fully. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
IN FOSTERPeter was a bit underweight and nervous when he first came to TJO but after a good night's sleep and a few days of regular, nutritious meals, he was feeling a little better and a little braver. Since being in foster, Peter is at a perfect weight, and during his time in the shelter he made friends with staff and volunteers and quickly became a shelter favorite.OTHER PETS: Peter is mostly disinterested in other dogs but when uncomfortable will get irritated across the barrier with another dog. He would do well as an only pet. [Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Peter is pretty easy-going and enjoys the company of a human friend, some playtime, and opportunities to rest on a soft bed. Peter does not love giving up his toys, so to help him feel confident, trading up (with another toy or high value treat) is a a safer way to remove toys and will help him worry less about losing high value items. Since Peter has been in foster, we've learned that he prefers company during the day whenever possible, and needs more frequent outings to help is aging bladder. KIDS: Peter has been uncomfortable with some handling but tolerant of it, he does solicit physical interaction but arthritis makes him sore. He can be a little grabby with toys, unintentionally brushing teeth against fingers or knuckles when giving/taking toys; Peter would not be a good fit for younger children and should meet everyone he would be living with prior to adoption. Minors should always be actively supervised. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Peter still enjoys being active but too much walking could aggravate his arthritis; he enjoys playing with humans and toys, sometimes getting grabby with toys and fixating on them occasionally. Peter would do well with a variety of mental enrichment activities - a combination of physical activity and mental stimulation will help meet his needs and keep him young; you can also speak with your vet about diet and exercise/physical therapy referals. [Good Yoga Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Peter will need a good relationship with a vet to ensure his arthritis and seasonal allergies are optimally managed and he is able to remain active well into old age. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Peter bond with his new owner, build self-confidence, and new skills and fun tricks. Positive reinforcement is a great way to keep his mind engaged and active to fully meet his needs. [Minimal]GROOMING: [Minimal]June 29, 2026, 4:47 pm
