Story
Magdalena is an 8 month old terrier mix who came from Alabama to find a new home. She has a big personality in a small frame and loves women, cuddling, car rides, and playing with her toys. She’s affectionate, lively, and happiest when she’s part of the action or curled up close to her person. Magdalena is fearful of men and will bark or growl when unsure, so she’s looking for a home without men or with a very patient and understanding man willing to take things slowly. Any men in the household must meet her at the shelter. She also guards treats from people and toys from other dogs, so she should live with kids 12+ who respect her boundaries. She can have dog friends, but any canine housemate will need to be respectful when she has a toy. Ready to Adopt? Story
Are you looking for a very sweet bouncy girl? Dakota seems to love everyone she meets and is a bit demanding of attention. She is a great mix of playful activeness and a snuggly large lap dog. Dakota would love an active home where she can go hiking and maybe swimming in the summer. She does not have much experience with kids except newborns so we will need to see how she does with any kids in the home. She seems to like other dogs as far as we can tell. Ready to Adopt? Story
Xena is a sweet girl described by her previous family as smart, affectionate, and eager to please. She enjoys going out for walks and coming home to snuggle on the couch afterwards. She also loves playing with all types of toys and may even steal plastic water bottles to play with! If she hears sounds outside, she may give a bark to let you know something is out there. Xena is always up for meeting new people and enjoys attention from everyone. Ready to Adopt? Story
Mia is a tiny, loving pup who’s been hanging out in foster care while recovering from surgery to remove bladder stones—and she’s doing great! Because of her medical history, Mia will need to stay on a lifetime prescription urinary diet to help keep her healthy and feeling her best. We also require a vet reference for her adoption, just to make sure she continues getting the care and food she needs. In foster, Mia has shown what a total cuddle bug she is. Her foster mom says she’s pee pad trained, crate trained at night, and happiest when she’s glued to her person’s side. Seriously—if you’re looking for a little shadow who will follow you from room to room and keep you company all day, Mia is your girl. Her activity level is pretty low; she’s perfectly content to lounging around, napping, and soaking up affection most of the day. Mia can be a bit barky and nervous when meeting new people, but don’t let that fool you—she warms up quickly. Mia prefers to be the only dog in the home and this way she can be a single spoiled child. If you’re looking for a calm, cuddly, devoted little companion who just wants to be near her person and live the cozy life, Mia might be your perfect match Ready to Adopt? PETER

Pit Bull Terrier

Story
Peter was a bit underweight and nervous when he first came to TJO but after a good night's sleep and a few days of regular, nutritious meals, he was feeling a little better and a little braver. Peter is at a more appropriate weight and has been making friends with staff and volunteers while he enjoys being safe and warm during all these snow storms.OTHER PETS: Peter is mostly disinterested in other dogs, he will greet them appropriately and then continue doing his own thing. He would do well as an only pet but would also do well with other independent, relaxed dogs. As with all our adoptable dogs, Peter should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case / Only Pet (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] GROOMING: [Minimal] KIDS: Peter is uncomfortable with some handling but tolerant of it, he does solicit physical interaction but arthritis makes him sore. He also gets grabby with toys, unintentionally brushing teeth against fingers or knuckles when giving/taking toys; Peter would not be a good fit for younger children and should meet everyone he would be living with prior to adoption. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Peter still enjoys being active but too much walking could aggravate his arthritis; he enjoys playing with humans and toys, sometimes getting grabby with toys and fixating on them occasionally. Peter would do well with a mix of physical activity and mental stimulation; you can also speak with your vet about diet and exercise/physical therapy referals. [Good Yoga Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Peter will need a good relationship with a vet to ensure his arthritis is optimally managed and he is able to remain active well into old age. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Peter bond with his new owner, build self-confidence, and new skills and fun tricks. Positive reinforcement is a great way to keep his mind engaged and active to fully meet his needs. [Minimal]March 9, 2026, 2:59 pm

KING

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)

Story
OTHER PETS: King has been comfortable around other dogs while at TJO, but hasn't had much interest in interacting. While he could possibly get along with another dog that will let him have his own space in the home, he would be just as happy in a place all to himself! [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: King is a strong dog with a lot of energy, and still needs to learn the foundations of positive reinforcement training. He loves toys and will likely do best learning with someone that has experience with positive reinforcement and the capability to handle stronger dogs. [Some Experience]KIDS: King is uncomfortable with some handling and isn't fond of being restrained or hugged (dogs in general do not enjoy being hugged or kissed), but he hasn't shown any signs of resource guarding while at TJO. Because of his size and energy level, though, he would likely do best in a home with older children that can understand how to interact with him and aren't as easy to knock over. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: King is an active dog that has a bit of an obsession with balls, and will benefit from varied activities to prevent the obsession from becoming more intense. (Once he finds one, he's set on keeping track of it in any way he can. He'll dig through bins, hop up on counters, even crawl under chairs!) He's bound to bring at least a few laughs into the home, but he would likely do best with an active family that can provide various methods of both physical and mental enrichment. [Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: While King already seems to understand `sit`, he is still at the beginning of his positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while he adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help King not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner as well. [Moderate]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]March 9, 2026, 2:59 pm
