Story
Magdalena is an 8 month old terrier mix who came from Alabama to find a new home. She has a big personality in a small frame and loves women, cuddling, car rides, and playing with her toys. She’s affectionate, lively, and happiest when she’s part of the action or curled up close to her person. Magdalena is fearful of men and will bark or growl when unsure, so she’s looking for a home without men or with a very patient and understanding man willing to take things slowly. Any men in the household must meet her at the shelter. She also guards treats from people and toys from other dogs, so she should live with kids 12+ who respect her boundaries. She can have dog friends, but any canine housemate will need to be respectful when she has a toy. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Mia is a tiny, loving pup who’s been hanging out in foster care while recovering from surgery to remove bladder stones—and she’s doing great! Because of her medical history, Mia will need to stay on a lifetime prescription urinary diet to help keep her healthy and feeling her best. We also require a vet reference for her adoption, just to make sure she continues getting the care and food she needs. In foster, Mia has shown what a total cuddle bug she is. Her foster mom says she’s pee pad trained, crate trained at night, and happiest when she’s glued to her person’s side. Seriously—if you’re looking for a little shadow who will follow you from room to room and keep you company all day, Mia is your girl. Her activity level is pretty low; she’s perfectly content to lounging around, napping, and soaking up affection most of the day. Mia can be a bit barky and nervous when meeting new people, but don’t let that fool you—she warms up quickly. Mia prefers to be the only dog in the home and this way she can be a single spoiled child. If you’re looking for a calm, cuddly, devoted little companion who just wants to be near her person and live the cozy life, Mia might be your perfect match Ready to Adopt? Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Johnny was very happy that some kind human let TJO know that he needed help, and he was very thankful that the animal control officers had a nice warm vehicle for him to ride in on the way to safety. Once he had a comfy bed, a full belly, and some butt scratches he was ready to show everyone how goofy and loveable he can be. OTHER PETS: Johnny was disinterested in similarly sized dogs and has a high prey drive so he would not be a good fit to live with cats or small dogs. He would prefer to be an only dog but would be open to meeting a relaxed dog with a similar `live and let live` attitude. [Case by Case (No Cats or Small Dogs!)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Johnny currently does not walk very well on a leash; his best fit would be with someone with experience with positive reinforcement (or willingness to learn) to teach new skills, and a guardian who is strong enough to keep him safe. [Some Experience] KIDS: Johnny is a social, outgoing dog who enjoys interacting with humans and playing with toys. He has not engaged in resource-guarding while at TJO, and would likely get along with most humans. While Johnny is friendly, he may not be a good match for small humans who might get knocked over by his enthusiastic wiggles. Any minors who would be living with him should meet Johnny prior to adoption. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Johnny will need a good blend of exercise and playtime combined with mental enrichment such as puzzle toys and games to fully meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Johnny bond with his new owner while learning new skills and fun tricks. Johnny is a strong puller while walking on the leash and will need support and positive reinforcement to help him learn loose leash skills. [Moderate]February 22, 2026, 2:03 pm

Story
OTHER PETS: King has been comfortable around other dogs while at TJO, but hasn't had much interest in interacting. While he could possibly get along with another dog that will let him have his own space in the home, he would be just as happy in a place all to himself! [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: King is a strong dog with a lot of energy, and still needs to learn the foundations of positive reinforcement training. He loves toys and will likely do best learning with someone that has experience with positive reinforcement and the capability to handle stronger dogs. [Some Experience]KIDS: King is uncomfortable with some handling and isn't fond of being restrained or hugged (dogs in general do not enjoy being hugged or kissed), but he hasn't shown any signs of resource guarding while at TJO. Because of his size and energy level, though, he would likely do best in a home with older children that can understand how to interact with him and aren't as easy to knock over. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: King is an active dog that has a bit of an obsession with balls, and will benefit from varied activities to prevent the obsession from becoming more intense. (Once he finds one, he's set on keeping track of it in any way he can. He'll dig through bins, hop up on counters, even crawl under chairs!) He's bound to bring at least a few laughs into the home, but he would likely do best with an active family that can provide various methods of both physical and mental enrichment. [Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: While King already seems to understand `sit`, he is still at the beginning of his positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while he adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help King not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner as well. [Moderate]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]February 24, 2026, 11:37 am

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
OTHER PETS: Neil was eager to greet other dogs and was comfortable going off and doing his own thing as well. Though he didn't seem interested in playing, he would likely do well with another social dog in the home that will allow him to have his own space when he wants/needs it. [Likely (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Neil is currently very grabby with hands, and will likely need a specific behavior management plan using positive reinforcement and counterconditioning, and not punishment. He has not shown any signs of resource guarding while at TJO, but he's fixated on hands. He would do best with someone that has experience and current knowledge of positive reinforcement training, but could do well with someone that has owned dogs before and is willing to learn as well. [Experienced]KIDS: Because of how mouthy he can be, Neil would do best with older kids that can understand how to interact with him and when to let him have his own space. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: While Neil doesn't exhibit a high energy level here at TJO, this could change in a home environment as he grows more comfortable. He has loved mental enrichment with staff and volunteers will do best with various forms of mental enrichment to keep his body and mind engaged and fulfilled. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: Neil arrived at TJO severely underweight, and is has reached a healthy weight while under our vet's care. Neil is in good health currently and will likely do well with routine vet appointments down the line. [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Neil has a habit of trying to grab people's hands with his mouth. He will likely need a specific management plan based on positive reinforcement as he continues to adjust to his environment and figures out how to politely interact with people. As he continues on his positive training journey, he will work best with someone that can be dedicated to helping him understand better ways to seek interaction, and can work with and understand positive reinforcement training methods. While at TJO he has made tremendous progress and has shown how important it is to include both regular exercise and mental enrichment to fully meet a dog's needs. [Intense]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]February 23, 2026, 5:47 pm

Story
Diné was found on Navajo Rd and is so named because the conquistadors called the Diné `Navajo` when referring to them. This gentle old man still has some pep in his step & enjoys being playful when the mood strikes him. He does not like his skin tags being touched, he would NOT be a good fit for a home with young children.OTHER PETS: Diné is comfortable and independent around other dogs, without much interest in play. He would likely get along with other relaxed dogs that do not have much interst in play. Diné should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone experienced with positive reinforcement, and dogs in general, would be best for Diné; he will need someone who can monitor him and ensure he does not over exhert himself while doing fun things. [Some Experience] KIDS: Diné is social and enjoys interacting with humans, but he also enjoys his quiet time. He would best fit with a moderately active to quiet home where he has his own place to relax and has humans who will respect his boundaries during quiet time. [13+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Diné is currently going through acceptance phase of aging, sometimes he forgets that he can't be as zoomie as he used to and boy does he get going - but he gets tired pretty quick. Engaging in lower impact activity (walking vs off leash running for example) will allow him to stay active for longer periods of time but care needs to be taken to ensure he doesn't push himself too hard. Regular, appropriate exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet his needs.[Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Senior dogs need a good relationship with their vet to ensure they are monitored appropriately to support healthy aging. Diné has already demonstrated how good he is at growing things so staying on top of any potentially harmful masses is important for his future health. It is important to note that Diné is uncomfortable with restraint during exam and may benefit from fear free practices or medication to help him relax beforehand. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Diné bond with his new owner as well as ensuring he know his behavorial expectations. Continued training interactions will help keep Diné's mind and muscles working their best as he ages. [Minimal] GROOMING: [Minimal]February 24, 2026, 11:37 am
