Kanga is a two-year-old, 34-pound Pit Bull Terrier mix who has been patiently waiting since mid-July for her new family to come and take her home. When she first meets someone new, Kanga likes to take her time getting to know them. She’s not the type of dog who’s going to be immediate BFFs with every person she meets—but once she trusts you, you’ve got a friend for life. If you have another dog at home, we recommend bringing them in for a meet-and-greet with Kanga at the shelter. As with any new dog joining your family, slow introductions at home are also important to help everyone get comfortable and set the relationship up for success.Kanga may need a little time to warm up, but we promise—she’s worth the wait. Meet Tucker (A091735), a 2-year-old Pit Bull who has been consistently described as a sweet, friendly guy. Tucker greets staff with an enthusiastic wag, enjoys being petted, and has been easy to leash and handle. He’s a treat fan and takes them gently, although his excitement may occasionally get the best of him with a little jumping. Even when faced with a pouring rainstorm, Tucker made his preference perfectly clear—he was ready to turn around and head right back inside! His evaluations consistently describe him as friendly, relaxed, wiggly, and eager to interact with people.Tucker arrived at the ARC underweight at just 27 pounds, so he was placed on extra meals to help him put on some much-needed weight. The good news is that it’s working—by his most recent exam, Tucker weighed 33.8 pounds, gaining nearly 7 pounds since intake! His veterinary exam noted that he was bright, alert, cooperative, and showing good energy. Now, Tucker could really benefit from the comfort and routine of a loving home where he can continue gaining weight, relax, and let even more of his personality shine. Tugboat is a 1-year-old, 45-pound Pit Bull mix who is looking for a home where he can relax, build confidence, and let his goofy personality shine! This sweet young guy can be timid and easily startled by unfamiliar sights and sounds, but once he feels comfortable, he seeks affection, leans in for scratches, enjoys toys, and has shown that he knows “sit.” He walks nicely on a loose leash but may need some gentle encouragement when something makes him nervous. Tugboat has also been playful around other dogs, including offering a play bow when seeing another dog in the hallway, though he has not had a documented formal dog-to-dog interaction. Tugboat has made encouraging progress since his nervous arrival, but the shelter environment can still be overwhelming for this sensitive youngster. A home could give him the chance to decompress, gain confidence, and show everyone the affectionate, playful dog hiding underneath those nerves. If you have a little patience, plenty of treats, and room for a sweet young pup who just needs some reassurance, Tugboat would love to sail out of the shelter and into your home!
