Story
ROXIE - COURTESY POSTING Roxie is a middle aged (7-9 year old) chihuahua mix that weighs in at 13 lbs. Roxie was among the 50 that were rescued alive from a hoarding situation in GA, of about 150 dogs. She is spayed now, but has been over bred in the past.  Roxie faces a few challenges; she has exhibited some neurological damage, and her back end doesn’t work as well as it should. Her stride wobbles in the rear and she has a tendency to slide her back feet on the floor. She has occasional accidents that she doesn’t know is happening. She has less feeling back there and tends to bite her feet.  She doesn’t appear to like other dogs, and would enjoy being an only dog. We have not observed her with other pets so we can’t speak to her inter-specie behavior.  Roxie is a very sweet and very loving girl, she is a true lap dog. Her favorite toys are squeaky toys that she will squeak until they stop. Roxie doesn’t bark a lot, but she does have an adorable snore. She is crate trained. Roxie would perfectly fit in a home with lots of patience, love and attention. She is truly a delightful girl.  She is spayed, UTD on shots, HW neg and on HW prevention. Her adoption donation is $250.00. Story
Bella was born 4/9/17 so that makes her 6.5 years old. She weighs around 12 lbs. She loves to play tug of war and also likes to fetch. She is very active. She is also a total love bug. When you sit on the couch, she jumps right up and snuggles up right next to you. She will constantly nudge your hand wanting to be petted. She sleeps in the bed with you and crawls up under the covers to snuggle up next to you. She is also a chow hound. She is always begging for something to eat. She is taken out regularly when her foster mom is home. Once when her foster mom didn’t take her out soon enough, she started circling and her foster mom knew she was looking for a place to go. During the day while her foster mom is at work, Bella is left blocked off in her foster mom’s den. Pee pads are left down and she will go on them. She has not torn anything up and her foster mom is gone around 9 hours per day. Her previous foster crated her during the day and said she tore everything up and made a total mess. Her foster mom did lock her in a crate for about 3 hours one day, while she was gone, and she was fine. Bella is dog aggressive and will need to be an ONLY DOG. Even on leash when walking Bella reacts negatively to other dogs. Bella also has a high prey drive so would do best in a home without smaller animals.  Fence is required due to her dog aggression to ensure her safety.  Bella’s adoption fee is $300.00 If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. Story
Meet Rocky! Rocky is a 4 year old, 8 pound long-haired male chihuahua who was surrendered to CRT by his previous family as Rocky was struggling to adjust to a young child being in the home. Rocky is the typical chihuahua and when he finds his person, he follows him/her everywhere, loves to give kisses, and is just the happiest he can be. Once he loves you, you will be the center of his world. Be prepared to be absolutely adored! Rocky is great with small dogs. He is pee pad trained and leash trained. He does not do great with children so he is required to go to a home without small children. Rocky does still mark sometimes, but his foster mother notes that that has diminished the longer he’s been in her home. Rocky does need some time to adjust to a new home. When he first got to his current foster home, he growled any time his foster mother tried to brush him, put him in a crate, or generally do anything that Rocky didn’t want to do. After being in his foster home for a few days, though, he decided he liked his foster mother and now she can’t do anything at home without him! He can and will be snippy for the first few days, but if you give him time and do not crowd him, he will come around in due time! Medically, Rocky has a history of seizures and takes daily antiseizure medication to prevent them. The seizures do not last long and do not happen often but do need to be monitored. Rocky is neutered, UTD on shots, heartworm negative, and on HW preventative. His adoption donation is $300.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. Story
Meet Sprout! Sprout is a 6.5 lb, 4 month old puppy. His father is unknown, and his mother is Tequila, a chi mix who was recently adopted through CRT. It is estimated that Sprout may possibly end up around 15-20 pounds but this is just a guess since we don’t know who his father is. Sprout is an adorable little guy with a big personality! He LOVES to play- running zoomies, jumping and weaving, playing tug with his brother. He also enjoys playing with his foster mom’s adult chihuahuas. One of them is super high energy and Sprout can keep up no problem! Even when he was very little he was confident and ready to have fun. He is quite the scrapper and loves attacking toys! He is also a really great jumper- it’s like he has springs in his legs! Sprout is learning to go potty outside very well- both pee and poop. He looks at his foster mom when he potties outside and she tells him how good he is and then he gets super happy! He eats his kibble from a slow feeder bowl, otherwise he will gobble it way too fast. Sprout earned the nickname, "baby clamps," when he was very young. His foster family jokingly started calling him this because he had a tendency to grab on to your finger and clamp down, and not let go! Fortunately, this behavior is MUCH improved. His foster mom reports that he seems to be learning that "clamping" isn’t a desirable behavior and he has gotten so much better as he’s grown. Sprout is a perfect addition for a loving, nurturing family looking for a sweet and playful puppy! With behavioral guidance and a family to love him, he is going to grow into the perfect little companion! Sprout is UTD on vaccines, HW Negative and on HW preventative. He will be considered foster to adopt until he is old enough to be neutered. Sprout’s adoption donation is $350.00. Story
This cutie is Frankie! Franky is believed to be approximately 6-8 years old. Little Franky found himself at a high risk kill shelter for unknown reasons and CRT scooped him up. Franky has a white coat with tan highlights, tan ears, and an adorable underbite. Franky is a happy little guy whose tail is always wagging. He absolutely loves to go for walks and is perfectly leash trained. He's also happy to lounge in the sun, on his own or with others, in a fenced yard. He's very smart and had already figured out which door to go to and how to signal that he needs to go out within an hour of being in his foster home! He's a champion snuggler and will be happy to spend hours cuddled up with his person. He'll fluff up his blanket and settle in for as long as you want. He likes to play with toys and can amuse himself or play fetch with you. He also likes to go for car rides. Franky seems to like all people and dogs in general, but we’re recommending a one person home, preferably a female, as he gets very clingy with his human. It would be best for him to be adopted by someone who is an experienced chi owner. He’s not a big fan of cats and we’d recommend a feline-free home. It is also recommended that Franky go to a home that does not have young children since any unintentional rough handling may be outside of his comfort zone. Franky most likely had some sort of trauma in his past given that he has a few broken teeth and cataracts in one eye with evidence of past trauma. This does not affect his quality of life. His teeth are crooked but healthy. He’s a good eater and enjoys a treat now and then, too! When he came into foster care, he was underweight and had itchy, red skin from fleas. That improved quickly once he got proper treatment! Franky was recently neutered and received a dental cleaning. Franky is heartworm positive and currently receiving treatment for this, which is covered by CRT. For this reason, he will be considered “foster to adopt” until his heartworm test comes back negative. That should not deter anyone from choosing this awesome pup - he'll be a wonderful companion for life! This adorable and sweet boy has come a long way since coming into foster care. His foster family is enamored with him, as are his two chi foster sisters. He's happy and healthy and ready for his forever home. His adoption donation is $300.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. Story
This is Mimi! Mimi is a 9 year old, 10 pound Chinese Crested who is now available for adoption. Mimi was surrendered when her owner had to go into hospice care. Mimi was surrendered alongside Thor, who is also available for adoption through CRT (they are not bonded, so they do not need to be adopted out together). Mimi’s foster mother says she has a laid-back personality. Mimi is not a big cuddler but will lay next to you on the sofa and loves to be petted. She would make a wonderful companion as she follows you everywhere and just wants to be close to you. She doesn’t tend to play with toys. She is very friendly to new people and is quick to warm up. Mimi is housebroken, walks well on a leash and likes car rides, but is not crazy about being in a crate. It is recommended that Mimi go to a home where she can be the only dog in the house. She is fine in general with other dogs but does get territorial about her personal space. She sleeps in her own bed in her foster mom’s room at night. Mimi loves her bed and does NOT want to share it! We are unsure how Mimi would do around cats but we suspect she would be ok with them. Please be familiar with this breed and their grooming needs if you’re interested in adopting a Chinese Crested. Mimi will require regular combing, bathing and hair trimming as needed and special attention to her skin. She has a good amount of hair on her head, tail and legs but it is sparse on her torso which is normal. Due to her age, Mimi has slight cataracts but seems to see quite well despite that. The vet said that she also has a level 2/6 heart murmur. Mimi is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations and has had a dental very recently. She is heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm prevention. Mimi is microchipped. Mimi’s adoption donation is $400.00.
