Story
Meet Peter — a 10-year-old, 10 lb Yorkshire Terrier with the most charming “toothless” smile you’ll ever see! Quick Facts: Name: Peter Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Age: 10 years old Weight: 10 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not tested but we guess he’d be fine with them! Good with Kids: Hasn’t met them yet, but loves everyone! Energy Level: Medium to high Fence Required: Yes - he is an escape artist! Special Care Note: This little guy has minor anatomical difference known as slightly permanent paraphimosis, where his prepuce doesn't fully cover his penis. When we rescued him, it was much more protruded, but with consistent care it has improved significantly over the past month. Our veterinarians have thoroughly evaluated him and confirmed this is not a surgical issue and does not affect his comfort or quality of life. Ongoing care is simple and involves applying a small amount of lubricant twice daily. He's happy, playful, and completely unaware that he's any different - just a sweet Yorkie who needs a bit of extra care! About Peter’s Breed: Our best guess is that Peter is a Yorkie mix. The Yorkshire Terrier, or “Yorkie,” is a tiny toy breed with a big personality, known for being affectionate, lively, and confident. Despite their small size, they carry themselves with boldness and charm, often described as having a “big dog attitude in a little body.” Yorkies are famous for their long, silky coats, which require regular grooming, and they thrive on companionship, making them devoted lap dogs as well as spirited playmates. Peter recently had dental work and is now healthy, happy, and ready to shine in his forever home! He’s potty trained, crate trained, and trustworthy outside of his crate, making him an easy companion. Despite his age, Peter has plenty of energy—he loves to run, play, and explore the yard with his foster doggie siblings. He’s also great on a leash and enjoys daily walks, plus he rides well in the car, making him the perfect little travel buddy! Peter’s PAWsitively Adorable Highlights: • Potty & crate trained, quick learner of house rules • Dog-friendly, loves playing with his foster siblings • Affectionate “Velcro” pup, happiest in a lap or by your side • Energetic for his age, enjoys walks and yard play • Soft food diet, since he has only a few teeth left • Car rider pro, loves adventures with his people • Would thrive with a fenced yard or regular leash walks • Ideal home: someone who can spend lots of time with him, as he loves constant companionship Peter is a sweet, affectionate little boy who wants nothing more than to be your loyal sidekick. With his happy spirit, cuddly nature, and adorable smile, he’s ready to bring endless love and joy to his forever family! Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Story
Meet Sugar — a 2-year-old, 8 lb. “Morkie” with a name that perfectly matches her sweet and spunky personality! Quick Facts: Name: Sugar Breed: Maltese/Yorkie Mix Age: 2 years old Weight: 8 lbs House-Trained: About 80% there (just needs supervision) Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes (smaller dogs with slow introductions) Good with Cats: Not tested Good with Kids: Only older, respectful kids (she can resource guard food and other items) Energy Level: High Fence Required: Fence Required: Yes! This little escape artist can get through a fence with any gaps and will climb a chain link fence, so a tall secure wood/vinyl privacy fence is required for our girl. About Sugar’s Breed: Our best guess is that Sugar is a Yorkie/Maltese mix – commonly known as a “Morkie”. These are small, affectionate dogs known for their playful personalities and silky, soft coats. These pups are affectionate and loyal, and bond deeply with their humans. They are a social, playful breed who do well people who are home more often than not. Like Sugar, Morkies just want to be near their people soaking up love and attention. Sugar may be petite, but she’s bursting with big energy and even bigger charm. She’s a playful little firecracker who thinks everything is fun—from romping with doggy friends to soaking up attention from people of all ages. Her favorite place in the world? Right by your side or curled up in your lap, of course! Sugar’s Sweetest Highlights: • Loves people, but would do best in an adult only household or one with older, respectful kids who understand her boundaries • Gets along with other small dogs, but prefers being the center of attention • Dominant play style, full of confidence and sass • Great on leash, ready for adventures or neighborhood strolls • Full of personality, playful, curious, and always entertaining • Lap lover and cuddle queen, happiest when close to her people • Would thrive in a home where she’s included in daily life—outings, snuggles, and all! Sugar is looking for a family who will shower her with love and let her be their little shadow. Whether you’re on the go or staying in, she’s ready to be your loyal, lively companion. She can be a selective eater with refined tastes (she loves her salmon kibble and Greek yogurt meals). She may resource guard her bones and at times, her favorite human, so a dog-savvy household is recommended. Sugar doesn't like to be separated from her family and wants to be involved in everything (she will even tag along with you on errands in her papoose, and loves to be groomed! If she's left out, she might "voice" her displeasure and remind you that she wants to join in the fun. Her potty routines are important to follow and she will need to be taken out right after mealtime. If you’re ready for a tiny dog with a huge heart, deep attachment and affection, and endless charm, Sugar is ready to sweeten your life!  Ready to Welcome Sugar Into Your Life? Meet Piper Roo – A Snuggly Little Dachshund with a Big Heart and Playful Spirit Quick Facts: Breed: Miniature Dachshund Age: 3 years Weight: 12 lbs House-Trained: Yes (may have occasional excited dribbles) Crate-Trained: Yes, but can be left alone without a crate Good with Dogs: Yes, loves dogs of all sizes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes, lived comfortably with a toddler Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: No Medical Note: Due to past severe delayed reactions to DHPP, she requires pre-medication with dexamethasone and Benadryl and veterinary supervision for any/all future vaccines for life. Why You’ll Love Piper Roo: Extremely affectionate and bonds quickly with her people Loves to play, especially fetch, and enjoys being part of the action Gets along beautifully with adults, kids, dogs, and cats Sweet, social, and happiest when she’s not alone Full of charming dachshund quirks that make her extra lovable About Piper Roo’s Breed: Miniature Dachshunds are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and big personalities packed into small bodies. They tend to be affectionate, playful, and deeply bonded to their people. Piper Roo is a perfect example of the breed—snuggly, social, a little stubborn, and endlessly endearing. Piper Roo’s Story & Personality: Piper Roo is a complete lovebug who thrives on companionship. While she can be left alone without a crate, she truly prefers having another dog around to keep her company—though it’s not a requirement. She plays well with dogs of all sizes and lived peacefully with a 20-month-old child, showing her gentle and adaptable nature. She can be slightly skittish at first but warms up quickly—she was napping on her foster’s lap within 30 minutes of arriving home. Piper adores people, including men, and has no fear in that regard. She’s affectionate, playful, and loves to be involved in whatever her people are doing. As a classic dachshund, Piper does have some signature traits: she can bark at noises, needs regular potty breaks to prevent accidents, and has a stubborn streak. Because of this, she would do best with an experienced dachshund owner who understands and appreciates the breed. Piper Roo’s Ideal Home: A home with another dog would be ideal, though not required An adopter familiar with dachshund traits and needs A family or individual who enjoys snuggles, playtime, and companionship A home where she isn’t left alone for long periods Someone who will embrace her loving, quirky personality Ready to Welcome a Snuggly Sidekick into Your Life? Piper Roo is sweet, playful, and full of love to give. With the right home, she’ll be a devoted companion who brings warmth, laughter, and plenty of cuddles to everyday life. Important Medical Note: Piper Roo has a documented history of delayed, severe reactions to the DHPP vaccine. Any future vaccinations must follow the same protocol used by our veterinarian: pre-treatment with dexamethasone and Benadryl, administered by a veterinarian, with post-vaccine observation. This protocol will need to be followed for her lifetime. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. Story
Meet Harley – A Loyal Companion with a Gentle Heart Breed: Terrier Mix Age: 4 years Weight: 22 lbs Location: Durham, NC House-trained: Yes Crate-trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Can be selective, meet and greet with existing dogs would be best Good with Kids: No small children Good with Cats: Not tested Energy Level: Low to Moderate Fenced Yard Required: Preferred Special Needs: Experienced adopter preferred due to reactivity and anxiety Harley is a sweet, soulful 4-year-old Terrier mix with a gentle heart and cautious nature. Weighing just 22 lbs, he’s the perfect size for cuddles and quiet companionship. Though shy and slow to warm up, Harley blossoms into a devoted shadow dog once he feels safe—always happiest curled up on the couch or nestled close to his person. About Harley’s Breed: Terriers were originally bred to be clever, brave, and tenacious, and Harley has inherited their sharp mind and loyalty—but in a much softer, more sensitive package. Terrier mixes often bond deeply with their people, and Harley is no exception. While some terriers are high-energy, Harley is mellow and calm indoors, with occasional playful bursts when the mood strikes. He is thoughtful, observant, and truly shines in a stable environment where he can build trust at his own pace. Harley’s Personality & Progress: Harley is house-trained, crate-trained, and has excellent manners—no chewing, no accidents, and he sleeps peacefully through the night. He prefers quiet nature walks to busy neighborhoods and enjoys time in peaceful, enclosed outdoor spaces. He is reactive to some dogs and sudden noises, but he’s made wonderful progress with redirection and positive reinforcement. Because of his reactivity and occasional anxiety (especially when left alone), Harley needs a patient, experienced adopter who understands how to manage a sensitive dog. Once he trusts you, Harley will give you his whole heart—he’s not just looking for a home, but for someone to belong to. Harley’s Ideal Home: Calm, quiet environment No small children Good as a solo dog, or with another dog with similar energy Secure fenced yard preferred Experienced, patient adopter willing to continue positive reinforcement training and offer routine and stability Harley is fully vetted, neutered, and ready to be someone’s loyal sidekick.
