Nola reflects the best of both breeds—smart and capable, yet affectionate, gentle, and deeply connected to her people. Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes (she jumps a little when excited, but that's being worked on!) Energy Level: Medium to High Fence Required: Yes   About Laia’s Breed: The Lab/Hound mix is a friendly, energetic crossbreed that combines the loyalty of a Labrador Retriever with the keen instincts of a hound. These dogs often inherit a strong investigative drive, high intelligence, and a love for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring. Depending on the hound parent—Lab/Hound mixes can vary in size, appearance, and temperament, but they typically weigh between 45–80 pounds and live 10–13 years. They thrive in active homes with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, and they’re known for being affectionate, social, and eager to please.   Laia is a social butterfly who absolutely adores other dogs and would love living with a canine sibling to romp and snuggle with, but it isn't necessary. She’s also cat-friendly and loves being around people—especially if they’re up for a cuddle session or a game of tug with her favorite chew toys! With her bouncy energy and playful spirit, Laia is happiest in a home with a fenced yard or an active family who enjoys walks, hikes, and trips to the dog park.   Laia’s Lovable Highlights: Dog-obsessed, and great with cats too Playful and energetic, loves chew toys and zoomies Best with adults or older kids, as she can be jumpy when excited Crate trained, but prefers not to be left alone too long Working on potty training, and learning not to jump Walks well on leash, insists on the right side Knows basic commands, like “sit” and “come” Snuggly and sweet, loves being close to her people Sensitive to boundaries, working on confidence with doorways Destroys fluffy toys, but adores hard chew bones   Laia is looking for a loving, patient home where she can continue to grow and thrive. Story
LONG-TERM/FOREVER FOSTER NEEDED: FOSTERING IS FREE! Meet Frankie — a soul filled with love, resilience, and quiet courage. Frankie’s story is one of heartbreaking cruelty but also incredible resilience. He was severely beaten before rescue, leaving his back permanently curved. Although his fractures healed, they healed incorrectly, and there is no surgery that can repair the damage. When he first arrived, Frankie was paralyzed with fear — terrified of human touch, flinching at sudden sounds, and unsure whether kindness could ever be real. Thanks to the patience and dedication of several foster families, he has made tremendous emotional progress. Still, Frankie carries deep trauma. In his 4.5 years in rescue, he has had four foster homes, each helping him grow a little more. Despite everything he has endured, Frankie remains unbelievably gentle. He loves other animals, even curling up with kittens, and he radiates a quiet, tender sweetness. Frankie’s Medical & Daily Needs Frankie’s medications average about $175/month and include: Anxiety medications to help manage his trauma Proin, taken regularly Pain medications to support his permanently injured back These keep him comfortable and emotionally supported. What Frankie Needs in His Next Foster Home 🛏 A Safe, Predictable Space His emotional safe zone is always the master bedroom. He needs to sleep close to his people — either in their bed or in a cozy dog bed beside them. 🏠 Someone Home More Often Than Not Frankie struggles when left alone for long periods. He thrives when someone is home most of the day, offering reassurance, routine, and a sense of safety. 😔 Trauma-Informed Patience He is still afraid of many things. Sudden noises and changes overwhelm him. He needs calm, gentle handling and a foster who will move at his pace. 🚫 Limited or No Stairs (Essential) To prevent additional pain and protect his curved spine, he must live in a home with limited or no stairs. 🧩 Routine & Adjustment Time Transitioning into a new environment takes time. Establishing a predictable daily routine — whether he’s free-roaming or crated — will help him settle. 🚽 Potty Habits He uses pee pads reliably and will also go outside. Consistency helps him feel confident. 🐾 Good with Other Animals He loves other pets and finds comfort in their presence. A calm animal companion would be a bonus. 🏡 Quiet Home Preferred A peaceful environment helps keep his anxiety manageable and allows him to feel secure. 🦴 Favorite Things He loves chew treats like bully sticks, cow ears, and chicken jerky. He eats Fromm canned and dry food and enjoys mealtime. 🌿 Little Bursts of Joy When he’s feeling good, Frankie gets adorable yard zoomies — brief moments where his playful spirit shines through. Frankie has survived the unimaginable, yet continues to love with a gentle, trusting heart. He needs a foster home where someone can be there for him, keep him safe, and show him that he is finally home for good. If you can offer patience, a quiet home, and lots of love — Frankie will give you more than you could ever imagine in return.

Story
Meet Harley – A Loyal Companion with a Gentle Heart Breed: Terrier Mix Age: 4 years Weight: 22 lbs Location: Durham, NC House-trained: Yes Crate-trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Can be selective, meet and greet with existing dogs would be best Good with Kids: No small children Good with Cats: Not tested Energy Level: Low to Moderate Fenced Yard Required: Preferred Special Needs: Experienced adopter preferred due to reactivity and anxiety Harley is a sweet, soulful 4-year-old Terrier mix with a gentle heart and cautious nature. Weighing just 22 lbs, he’s the perfect size for cuddles and quiet companionship. Though shy and slow to warm up, Harley blossoms into a devoted shadow dog once he feels safe—always happiest curled up on the couch or nestled close to his person. About Harley’s Breed: Terriers were originally bred to be clever, brave, and tenacious, and Harley has inherited their sharp mind and loyalty—but in a much softer, more sensitive package. Terrier mixes often bond deeply with their people, and Harley is no exception. While some terriers are high-energy, Harley is mellow and calm indoors, with occasional playful bursts when the mood strikes. He is thoughtful, observant, and truly shines in a stable environment where he can build trust at his own pace. Harley’s Personality & Progress: Harley is house-trained, crate-trained, and has excellent manners—no chewing, no accidents, and he sleeps peacefully through the night. He prefers quiet nature walks to busy neighborhoods and enjoys time in peaceful, enclosed outdoor spaces. He is reactive to some dogs and sudden noises, but he’s made wonderful progress with redirection and positive reinforcement. Because of his reactivity and occasional anxiety (especially when left alone), Harley needs a patient, experienced adopter who understands how to manage a sensitive dog. Once he trusts you, Harley will give you his whole heart—he’s not just looking for a home, but for someone to belong to. Harley’s Ideal Home: Calm, quiet environment No small children Good as a solo dog, or with another dog with similar energy Secure fenced yard preferred Experienced, patient adopter willing to continue positive reinforcement training and offer routine and stability Harley is fully vetted, neutered, and ready to be someone’s loyal sidekick.
