Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. You MUST complete a Best Friend Pet Adoption application if you are interested in Tesla.  Please fill out our dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window:   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC     Tesla (Tes) is an exuberant, friendly girl with lots of personality. She is roughly 4-5 years old, ~65lbs and appears to be a Husky, Shepherd, possibly Carolina Dog mix - whatever mix she is - she is absolutely beautiful, especially with her stunning blue eyes!   Tes is housebroken/crate trained and is normally crated when no one is home. She has been left for 8 hours during work days with no potty issues. She needs a large crate (42" - 48") as she likes to sprawl wide open and sleeps belly up in some of the cutest positions. She usually sleeps in her crate at night, but has done well sleeping out overnight and enjoys snuggling up on the couch. Tes wouldn't be suitable in an apartment and would do best with a fenced yard. She can be vocal at times and will definitely alert you that someone/something is at the door or yard. She does fine with the 4ft chain link at her foster home.   Tesla has medium-high energy. Since she's been settled in her foster home, she doesn't require a ton of exercise, but does need daily physical simulation/lots of outdoor time for her to explore - she likes to entertain herself with a ball/toy. Tes would do just fine as an only dog or with a well matched neutered male - similar to her size and play style. She prefers a dog that she can run around with for a few minutes then she likes to hang outside and sunbathe (on cooler days). She doesn't like a dog that is too overwhelming with excitement or that inappropriately invades her space.   Tesla will do best with a confident handler that is calm, consistent and provides guidance. She can be visually excited on walks, but she redirects easy with verbal or treat praise. She may need a few reminders to walk with manners, and once she knows you're not going to allow her to pull with excitement, she walks wonderfully. She is very smart, occasionally stubborn, but when you follow through with what you ask her to do, she is respectful and eager to please. She is food motivated and knows basic commands (sit, down & come) and waits patiently for her meals.   Tes has been observed with children twice and did well. Older children (8+) probably better than youngsters since she is larger and easily excitable. In previous foster homes, she has done ok with confident "dog-friendly" cats. If a kitty is shy and runs, the chase may be too fun. Slow and appropriate kitty introductions are highly recommended to create a successful relationship.   EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Tesla was picked up as a stray by animal control after she was hit by car. She had a fractured pelvis that was able to heal on its own. She has been waiting over a year to find a home to call her own, please consider meeting her! She would love to meet you!!   Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    We prefer that applicants live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore prefer applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. We will consider applicants who live further away if we  feel the home is right for this sweet girl.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING TESLA ? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs on the Best Friend Pet Adoption  website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC    FOSTER DOG INFORMATION: Pluto is an affectionate, 70 pound, neutered male dog. He was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023 and is currently being fostered for Best Friend Pet Adoption.  Pluto is very sweet, healthy, and happy. He is up-to-date on his vaccinations and the vet estimates his age as 6 years old. Pluto is great with all the people and dogs he has met. He especially likes people and loves cuddles and pets.  He plays well with the fosters two dogs but can be possessive over toys if boundaries are not set. He is house-trained and not possessive over food. He will sit by the door if he wants to go out. He knows to use the bathroom in the grass in the yard or in the grass while on walks.  Pluto seems to have been well cared for previously. He spends the day lounging on the couch, playing with his toys, and awaiting more belly rubs. Pluto is quiet. He will occasionally bark briefly when we get a package at the front door (but only if the package is set against the door) otherwise he does not make a sound. He will whine/bark briefly if left out in the yard longer than it takes him to use the bathroom.  He prefers leashed bathroom breaks so no fenced yard is needed.  He does pull some while walking on a leash. Mainly pulls towards houses (I think because he prefers being inside). We are working on improving his leash skills.   We have introduced Pluto to some kids and he did well.  He was on a leash and did very well. He does not seem to mind kids, but gives more attention to adults. He was fine with children running up to him, petting him, and grabbing at his face and ears.  He has met one cat. He was not aggressive but seems to have a prey drive so he would do best in a home without cats.  We feel Pluto could be with other dogs or as an only dog.  Pluto is crate trained; however, he does not need a crate.  He prefers to be out of his crate.  He is well mannered so we keep him out all day even when we are not home. He knows where he is allowed to go and what toys he can play with.  When we work away from home, he does great. We have a camera to check up on him. He sleeps most of the day and occasionally plays with my other dogs or with a toy.  We feel he could be left home alone or with another dog.  At night Pluto sleeps on a couch, recliner, or dog bed depending on his preference. He does prefer to sleep on the bed with us. Due to his size and snoring, he typically sleeps on the couch in the living room. Pluto is very friendly and well trained. He is quiet, gentle, and spends most of the day sleeping. He is great during the day while we are at work and happy when we return. He is always ready to snuggle up next to you on the couch and receive pets. He sleeps through the night and rarely makes noise during the day. He gets along great with my dogs and we would keep him in heartbeat if we did not already have two dogs.     EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Pluto was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023. A BFPA volunteer found him and took him in.  We are helping this sweet boy find his forever home.      Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PLUTO? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Lincoln will require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet this handsome boy.   The link to the Best Friend Pet Adoption application is:   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC FOSTER COMMENTS:  Lincoln is a 6-year-old male foxhound mix that currently weighs 62lbs.  Lincoln answers to "Linc".  He is very friendly to all the people he meets and he is unusually easy-going and not startled by noises.  He is such a sweet dog with an adorable derp-y face! Linc was clearly an outdoor dog in the past, but he's a smartie and is learning quickly . He tells us when he needs to go out to use the bathroom, and boy does he love his walks! When we let him out in the yard, he stays on a long lead due to the fence being a bit short, but he seems more interested in coming back inside than escaping at this time.  Linc is currently living with another dog (male, 62lbs) with whom he gets along well. He has also had the opportunity to meet other dogs of all sizes while on walks, and Linc has done well with all leash-greets. However, Lincoln does not do well with cats, and any home for him would need to be cat-free.  He has not been around children, but his fosters think he'd be okay with a dog-savvy older kid since he's very gentle with all people.  Linc is food motivated and has learned "sit," "touch," and is working on "wait." He really enjoys learning new tricks and solving puzzles. He also loves to walk and would benefit from a family who likes to be active. He is a high energy dog, so he needs plenty of time exercising.  Linc gets into the silliest moods where he rolls around and snuggles up with the people around him. He loves to get kisses and scratches, and he's really blossoming with continued affection. Linc is crate trained and currently sleeps through the night in his crate, but he would certainly prefer to join us in the human bed.   At some point in Linc's life he had some trama to his face.  We think it only makes him cuter!  He points, and his "alert" position is very nice, his tail curves over his back and he has a nice trot.  He is learning what it is like to be part of a family and is starting to relax.  He deserves a patient family that will give him unconditional love and consistent  support so he can be the best family pet. He is heartworm positive and this will be treated by Best Friend Pet Adoption. He is expected to make a full recovery and is not exhibiting any outward sign of heartworms.   Please consider giving Lincoln the love and family he deserves.   EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Lincoln was found as a stray in a rural county.  He was either on his own for a while or starved by his owner, common for hunting dogs during the hunting season.  BFPA is helping this very sweet boy find his forever home.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  We prefer applicants live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hour's drive of Cary NC.  We will consider applicants who live a bit further if they bring Linc back to Raleigh for all medical care.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING LINCOLN ? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MEET RANDY! Randy is an 8 year old,  21 lb. beagle mix dog.  Randy is a loving and affectionate, low maintenance dog that will make a very loyal companion.   Randy is very friendly with everyone he meets.  He is a very relaxed guy who loves other dogs too.  He is currently living with cats and does fine. Randy is very chill but does like to play with other dogs occasionally.  He needs a buddy and won't do well as an only dog.  He would do great with a family that leaves the house to work or with a family that works from home.  His energy level is low.  He will occasionally play and do zoomies but mostly hangs out and sleeps.  Randy does not require a fenced yard.  Potty breaks on a leash and a nice walk everyday would suffice for his exercise.   He needs to be taken outside on a regular basis for his potty breaks.   Randy is crate trained but he does have some crate anxiety.  An airplane style crate is better than a wire crate for him.  At night he sleeps in his crate with no problem.  Randy is a sweet happy boy who loves to cuddle and hang out.  He loves to eat and loves to go out for a walk.  He is looking for a forever home where he can love his humans and in return be part of a loving home. We will consider applicants who live a bit further if they are a great fit for this sweet guy. .   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING  RANDY? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Do you want an active senior dog?  Boone is the dog that is perfect for you. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING BOONE? If so, please fill out our dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window: https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC   Boone is a beautiful, friendly Black Lab who 12 year old and 60 pounds.  Boone is such a good boy who deserves another good home. His owner had him since he was a puppy but unfortunately his owner has serious health issues and can longer care for Boone.  They loved Boone so much, they choose to give him up for adoption so he could continue to have a great life. Boone loves humans and canines.  He loves playing fetch with his humans more than playing with other dogs. He has not been around cats or children, so we are not sure how he would behavior.  Older children would probably be best.  Boone is housebroken and has great house manners, so he does not need to be crated when we are not home.  Boone has a lot of energy for an older dog.  A fenced yard would be nice to have.  But if he doesn't have a fenced yard, he would need a daily walk and some serious play time.  Bonne is leashed trained and he is very well behaved on our walks. Boone's loves to play fetch.  You should plan on purchasing a ball launcher or have a good arm!  His love of fetch knows no bounds: hot or cold, day or night, rain or shine, he's always ready to play. He loves butt scratches, ear massages and belly rubs.  He'll join you on the couch or bed or be content with his dog bed.  Boone is looking for a family to play fetch with him and love him for the sweet boy he is.  He will need a home with another dog or with a human who is home most of the time. He is not used to being totally alone. Boone has always lived with either another dog or a person who was home most of the day.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    We prefer that applicants live no further than one hour from Cary NC.  Our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian is any medical care is needed prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We will consider applicants who live a bit further IF the fit is perfect for Boone.
