Meet Barney! Professional Snuggler Seeking Full-Time Lap Position Are you looking for a roommate who doesn’t party, won’t chew your shoes, and thinks you are the most interesting person on the planet? Meet Barney! Barney is a distinguished senior gentleman who has officially traded toys for "The Simple Life." He doesn't care for bouncy balls or squeaky rubber chickens—he’s far too sophisticated for that. Instead, he specializes in: The Post-Poop Zoom: A rare, majestic burst of energy that proves he’s still got it. Aggressive Napping: Usually in a sunbeam or, ideally, directly on your lap. The "Sniff-ari": He enjoys walks, but he’s not training for a marathon. He’s there to read every "p-mail" on every blade of grass. He’s a "Velcro pup" who wants to be wherever you are. Barney is a social guy and gets along great with the whole crew—dogs, cats, and even smaller critters! While he’s happy to share his home with other furry friends, his true heart belongs to his humans, and he’ll always be the first in line for a lap session. While he’s a bit shy with strangers, once he knows you’re his person (and that you have the "good" wet food), he’s your shadow for life. If you have a quiet home, a sunny spot on the floor, and a lap that needs filling, Barney is ready to retire with you. Barney has an adoption fee of $100, if you are interested in Barnet please reach out to aareed0@outlook.com or petassist@hopeanimals.org. This is a courtesy listing, meaning this dog is not part of Hope Animal Rescue’s foster program. We cannot attest to the temperament or suitability of this dog for your home.

Story
Meet Fern! Just like her namesake, Fern is soft, sensitive, and incredibly resilient. Over the past few months, she has been on quite the medical journey, and now, as the weather warms up, she is ready to bloom right alongside it. When Fern first came to HAR, her rapid test showed heartworm negative. Unfortunately, further testing revealed she was battling heartworms, hookworms, tick borne ehrlichia, and several related complications from her time surviving on the streets. It appears she had been on her own for quite a while before being picked up. Although she initially seemed energetic and healthy, her condition took a turn and we experienced a few very scary moments. Through it all, Fern has been nothing short of remarkable. She never once let her pain dull her sweetness. In fact, the NC State ER veterinarian officially described her as “sweet,” which checks out completely. Now, four months later, she is almost finished with treatment and finally ready to find the forever home she deserves. Medical backstory aside, Fern is a quintessential hound girl. She is about 4 years old and 45 pounds of curiosity and heart. She loves long walks, big sniffs, and sunbathing on the deck like it is her full time job. She is not a fan of cats, groundhogs, taking pills, or being told she cannot exercise, but honestly, who is? Fern thrives on a mix of novelty and routine. She gets excited about new toys, snacks, and adventures, but she also deeply appreciates the predictable comforts of home life. In the past month, she has even mastered the art of couch snuggling. She is endlessly sweet and gentle, yet carries herself with a quiet independence. The perfect balance of affectionate and self assured. Fern has fought hard for her second chance. Now she is just waiting for someone to share it with. 💛

Story
Meet Janet! This tiny girl is a pint-sized package with a huge heart, named after the level-headed roommate we all know and love from Three’s Company. While she might be small in stature, her personality is pure gold and she is ready to find her forever home. Janet has one very important job that she takes quite seriously: being your personal shadow. Her absolute favorite place is snuggled right in your lap. Whether you’re catching up on your favorite sitcoms or relaxing with a book, Janet is always ready to provide the cuddles and warmth that only a tiny companion can give. Being a young puppy, Janet is still learning the ropes of being a good dog. She is looking for a patient family who can help her master her potty manners and build some confidence with her leash skills. Because Janet is so tiny, she is looking for a home that will handle her with care and provide the structure she needs to grow. If you have plenty of room in your heart and a permanent vacancy on your lap, Janet is ready to move in and start a brand-new chapter as your most loyal roommate. Story
I might not be the guy who jumps into your arms the second we meet, but I AM the guy who will be your most loyal companion once I know I’m home! I can take a little time to find my confidence in new places, but seeing me transform from shy to playful is a pretty special reward. Want to come help me find my bounce? -- I'd love to find people who'll give me lots of affection and playtime!  I gobble up my food like it's the last I'll see for a while, so I'll benefit from having a slow feeder. Take me home today! Kids: 8+, can be jumpy, use object exchange for toys Dogs: Friendly, high-energy play; may be too much for some dogs May 14, 2026, 1:30 pm
