Story
Maverick is a 7-year-old male retriever-shepherd mix, who came into our program as an owner surrender when his family was no longer able to care for him due to unexpected life circumstances. Maverick had lived with his family since he was a puppy, until just a couple of months ago, and was very well loved. He lived in a home with young children and is reported to be great with kids. Maverick is a very lovable dog, who thinks he’s a lap dog and loves to snuggle with anyone who will let him. He is about 90 pounds so it’s best to have him snuggle next to you. Given that Maverick is a large dog, who doesn’t always know his size, and could inadvertently bump into a small child, we recommend that any children in the home be about 6 years of age or older. Maverick loves to be with his people, he rides well in the car and likes to go on walks – but is best to be walked on a gentle leader as he does have a potential to pull if he sees another dog or person that he would like to meet. Maverick has been great with all dogs and people he meets but can be a little shy at first. Maverick loves to play with toys, especially balls and tug toys, he also enjoys an appropriate bone now and then. Maverick loves to play “catch” with a ball – this is probably one of his favorite things. Maverick is crate trained for a full workday and is housebroken. He loves to hang out with his humans inside and out. A fenced yard is preferred so that he can wander around the yard safely, but is not required for his forever home. Maverick barks appropriately when in the yard and in the house, but when getting used to a new environment he does bark at noises he doesn’t recognize, so a home with shared walls may be difficult at first unless his human(s) are home much of the time to help him acclimate. Maverick is a pretty relaxed dog, who loves to hang out and be with his human(s). He could be an only dog, or in a home with other dogs. Maverick should not go with cats - he will chase them if they jump up or run and play. If the cats are senior, and aren't very active, he might be OK . Maverick is up to date on his distemper and rabies vaccinations, heart worm tested negative and his microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee for Maverick is $250. If you would like to learn more about Maverick, or set up a time to meet him, please call us at 651-771-5662.

Story
Meet York! This little boy is just over 9 months old and a lab mix. York is a fun loving puppy who would do best in a home who is ready for an active adventurous puppy. He needs a family ready to be the leader and continue to train him good behavior. He loves to run around the back yard and play with toys. He gets along well with other dogs including the resident dog. He is very treat motivated and eager to learn. In his current foster home, he learned to use the doggy door the 1st day and hasn’t had any issues with potty training and hasn’t any accidents in the house. The first day at his current foster home he was a little skittish of new things but he adjusted quickly and he is up to usual puppy antics. He is very curious and will explore his surroundings to see what he can play with. He has a current obsession with sock and has sniffed all the lost missing sock in his current foster home. York loves to play with toys but does need to be monitored with them because he likes to tear of little pieces off and tries to eat them. His current foster is working on drop and leave it which he is catching on to. York is very interested in people food and we have been working on proper manners. He does jump up and counter surf. In his current foster home he has been trained to sit in his “spot” in the kitchen which has helped to deter this behavior. We are also working on wait and a release word for his meals. He is catching on quickly that jumping and being on the counter is not allowed. York is recently going through a phase where he's got some stranger danger. He'll be successful in a home that has the time and patience for him to come out of his shell. He does GREAT once he knows somebody, but it will take some time. When he gets scared his reaction is to turn the other direction. York has some amazing jumping skills and can easily clear a regular height baby gate so he would need a house with a 6ft fence or would need to be taking on leash or be on a tie out. He was happily sleeping in a crate at night, but he grew out of it. He now sleeps on his bed on the floor but will happily sleep in your bed if you let him. York is an active treat motivated puppy who is looking for someone to explore and learn new tricks with. Story
Snapshot of Trudy: Size? Full Size (35-50 lbs.) Activity Level? I play hard and snuggle hard! Noise Level? I bark when I play! Good with Dogs? I would LOVE a playmate, but would also do fine on my own Good with Cats? Untested but likely fine with dog-savvy cats Good with Kids? Great, but I do jump up! Good with Strangers? I love everyone! Potty Trained? Great, once I'm adjusted to a new place. Crate Trained? I bark some, but quiet down quickly! Shedding? I don't shed much. About Trudy: Hello! My name is Trudy and I am looking for my forever home! I am 6 months old and currently weigh around 30 pounds. I came to Twin Cities Pet Rescue from a reservation in South Dakota with my sister Rebecca. I just love toys, my humans, and dogs that live with me! I am very good at going to my crate and I'm learning to mind my manners when it's dinner time! I am almost a pro with potty training, I just need to know what door to stand by so my humans can see that I need to go out. I like slow intros to new dogs, once they understand my boundaries we do just fine. I love kids, but since I'm still learning not to jump up when I see people, older children would be better for me. I am quite the cuddler and would love to snuggle while you're working or watching TV! I also love to go on long walks. I would do well with another pet or as the star of the show. I would LOVE to find my forever home and am looking forward to meeting you! Adoption Fee: $550 Training Requirement: Obedience Level 1 MEET ME/ADOPT ME: If you'd like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting https://www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/ or clicking "adopt me!. Story
Snapshot of Bear Size? Medium! Activity Level? I play hard but snuggle harder! Noise Level? I have been known to bark when I'm in an apartment so I cannot live in a home with shared walls. I also bark at random things, but not when I'm in my crate. Good with Dogs? Yes! I love them all. Good with Cats? I do great with dog-savvy cats. Good with Kids? I would do best with kids who have been around dogs. Good with Strangers? Yes! Potty Trained? Yes! Crate Trained? Yes! I love my crate. Shedding? Minimal Hi, my name is Bear and yes, I think my ears are going to stay one up one down forever! I am a petite, comical, sweet boy and I'm looking for a home with another dog to hangout and play with. I adore all dogs and am pretty submissive when greeting/playing. I must admit, I tend to chase scared cats that bolt but I've become a bestie with my confident sister foster kitten. I love to play fetch with my favorite ball or stick and to go on fun adventures. I do have leash reactivity but my fosters would like me to tell you that I'm improving with redirection and treats/praise. For a little guy, I do have a large bark and and I feel the need to alert you when I'm startled so it is best I don't live in a home with shared walls. They say I am on the calmer side based on breed and age and am always up for fun; however I prefer snuggling up and getting some love. Would you like to meet me? Adoption Fee: $525 Bear requires another dog in the home and would do best in a home with a fenced yard. Obedience Level 1 Training Required.
